  • This is the second part of the video on catching fish on the Hybrid Hunter. I'm still on the same body of water interviewing during a Strike King writers conference. We catch a bunch more fish, I talk a little about the bait, how to fish it, and the industry.

    I'm 64 years old. I got one of these at Sports Academy a couple days ago. Used it yesterday just enough to see how it would look in the water. Didn't get to fish due to outboard problems. It looks in the water like what I use to fish with 45 years ago called a scout. The scout had a metal bill that looked like a scoop. It was almost impossible to hang up in anything you fished it in and it floated. I have been trying to find where I can get some scouts. I will be going back to Sports Academy to get some more in different colors. When I fished with the scout I had a saying. "When in doubt use a scout". It caught base when nothing else would.

    Man oh man. I totally get it. Cannot wait to get my hands on this lure! No doubt in the lakes I fish the fish get shy from a lip less crank bait getting ripped past their heads 24/7. I can still catch em but I have to really alter my retrieve to get em to eat it. This lure will work.

    The way your fishing it, is that for the most part the best retrieve you could apply at all of these bodies of water you mentioned in this video? Or is that just something you have to do because of the timber your fishing? I’m trying to imagine what that bait is doing at the end of your line and the best I can describe it would be combining a jerk bait, a crank bait and a trap all in one while the bait is covering a much broader area, I can see the application specifics where this could be a major player in a lot of tournaments.

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 роки тому +1

      You nailed it, its doing all these things, you want to hit this bait on anything or make it go crazy. Its so eratic with the flat sides and the buoyancy it hunts like crazy. The timber wasn't the reason it was that it was hitting grass constantly. If you notice I wasnt getting hung up I was just letting it touch it and float up. I like this bait reeled as fast as possible, its my favorite way to fish it. Not the only was just my favorite.

    Todd, I can't wait that long man. I need one of those things now. I'm a tackle junkie and I need my fix.🤣😉
    Any way you could send me one? Just kiddin man. But I am really anticipating the release of this thing. I had one of the old ones years and years ago and it worked great on my home lake. But while on a trip in Mississippi, the rod that I had it tied onto was stolen out my boat while I was in the baitshop, on my way to the lake. I was more pissed about losing the lure than I was the rod and reel because I only had one of them. So yeah, to say that I really want one of these is an understatement.

  • @joelbabin4365
    @joelbabin4365 4 роки тому

    Todd... what is your primary rod for throwing this bait around the shallow grass? Looks like you are using a glass rod or composite possibly?

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 роки тому +1

      Not glass, its straight graphite. I'm working with Falcon to design a rod at the moment. The rod is different for sure definitely a 7'6, but you want it to be much heavier than your standard crankbait rod. If you notice I was setting the hook. The reason is they hit it so hard and put so much slack in the line you have too. Everyone that fishes it with me the first time says it feels like the best jig bite they have ever gotten.

    • @joelbabin4365
      @joelbabin4365 4 роки тому

      @@toddcastledinefishing5924 Is there a current model in the Falcon line that is close to the power and action you are looking for? Just something to get a reference point? • @toddcastledinefishing5924

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 роки тому +1

      I fish it on all those lakes, I just happen to be throwing it in grass. Vibrating lipless crankbaits work well in grass, but also everywhere else. Same with vibrating jigs. Good baits translate to every lakes.

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  4 роки тому +1

      I like to burn this bait more than slow retrieve, but the reason use the 7:1 is the way they hit it. I talk a lot about them knocking slack in it. If you notice I set the hook in them not just load up. The reason is that unlike a crankbait bite you need a fast reel and stiffer rod to really catch up to them when they hit.

    If anyone wants to see what it is so a search for Strike Pro Big Bubba. Plain and simple it's the exact bait like Todd said that is being remade and produced by Strike Pro and labeled under Strike King badge. You want one so badly there are some in eBay right now and hopefully you will be able to afford $80+ for each bait. That's what the bids for the Strike Pro Big Bubba is going for. Knock off baits are made by 6th Sense Swank 77x but the rattle is the wrong frequency. There is a high and low frequency which is wrong in the 6th Sense baits. Color selection is ok not great and they are always sold out. Strike King needs to get on the ball and roll this bait out ahead of the Icast show.
