  • Review of the Shanlings UA5 portable USB DAC/AMP. Following Shanlings UA1 and UA2, the UA5 brings better specs and newer features. But at $239, in terms of value and performance, how does it compare to its more affordable competitors?

      GoBlu is great, I actually talked about it but unfortunately had to cut a lot of what I said out to shorten the time. Also, had trim out my experience with Paw S1 and a couple of other DACs. I'm trying to keep my videos at around 15 minutes 😩 But yeah, GoBlu is great too!

    hello, i just bought the UA5 but it sounds wonderful but i found some issues right away such as wobbly connector, scroll button not registered properly (sometimes it need more than 1 tick to increase or decrease volume), and the biggest problem is it wont work with Samsung Galaxy S8, is this just QC issue or all units are having the same issues as well??
    i also had an iphone 11 but somehow the plug is loose if i use some uncertified apple plugs, it got disconnected easily i tried a few brands such as Ranko Acoustics and DDHi-Fi still didnt fix it (even the DDHi-Fi MFi06 cable didnt fix this issue). any recommended cables for IOS as well??
    thank you

    Can you please clarify how the volume control works when in USB DAC mode? Is it possible to use system volume control on Apple device (Macbook Pro with Mac OS), without touching the hardware wheel? Or is the volume just "hardcoded" to the wheel? Thank you!

    Well, I’m ordering one. I’ve come to the conclusion that DAPs are more trouble than using my iPhone. I have the Audioquest Cobalt, and it’s a bit too shrill for me - also 3.5mm only. Hoping this will sound better and work great with my balanced headphones.

    At $299+ in 2022 we're still talking about external DACs for phones. The price and the fact that these little boogers are prone to getting lost, is the reason I have continued own a LG G8X phone with ESS Sabre DAC built in. It should last another 1.5yrs long enough to make external DAC moot. Way too much jewelry hanging off my phone. If we all want better sound w/o the dongles and tangled wires we need to push the phone makers to do as LG did before their demise and move everything internally. These DACs are pretty and all but, let's get real we wouldn't want to go back to antennas on our phones would we? Otherwise a great review. ~S.G.

    • @Mike_Jones68
      @Mike_Jones68 2 роки тому +2

      I see this LG phone comment all over the place...good luck powering good headphones or IEMs with that...you are limited, there's no arguing there. I have a v50 and run into this with my collection so an external dac amp makes all work as intended.

    • @JonnyMorgan18
      @JonnyMorgan18 2 роки тому +2

      What I think is needed is for all phones to have their own version of magsafe on the back then we get mini amps, smaller than the type people used to stack, just a flat profile version of a dongle. I know some audio companies are already making them, we just need the magnetic accessory option to be a standard thing.
      Then people who don't care about good audio don't have to pay for the better audio in their phones. It's amazing how many comments I see complaining about the built in speakers not being good enough in new phones, so I'm guessing those guys, I don't understand why anyone cares about their phone speakers 🤷‍♂️

      @Audio-In-Reviews 2 роки тому

      It was always something I appreciated as a viewer. Power output, s/n ratio, format decoding, output impedance etc. are very relevant. For many viewers these specs may may determine whether or not the device will fit there needs or even work with there iems or headphones. I think it was only about a 2 minute segment? Not bad really and easy to skip ahead if needed. As a reviewer I feel a since of accountability to provide as much pertinent information as possible. I give the information, the viewer can take or leave what he pleases.
