- I was curious how many light beers it would take to get me over the legal limit of .08 so I bought a breathalyzer and decided to find out. #millerlite
Everyone processes alcohol differently so I highly recommend getting your own breathalyzer so you can have a better idea what that number is for you. For reference I am 220lbs and 5’11”.

So my eight beers in an hour at my local cantina is probably not good? Now I know why I'm no longer shy when I leave. Thanks for the info my friend!

Thanks. This important info you just don't see. Body weight plays a big role also.

Dude, my brother in law is a police officer that gets to bring his squad car home.
One thing we’ve done a number of times is bring his breathalyzer in the house during holidays to see where we’re at.
One Thanksgiving I’d drank 8 Heinekens over about a 6 hour time span, and was still legal. When the kids went to bed, we started drinking moonshine, and things went south from there.
You metabolize about one beer an hour, so that makes sense
I can have 6 beers drank in 20 mins.
We did a similar test with beer, and we never got close to the limit with normal socializing and food. (We weren't chugging it like Karl.) It was all very surprising. I still never drive even after one beer.

People texting and driving scares me more than the guy who drinks 3 beers after work.
At least the drunk is trying to see the road. The texter isn't.
True. Studies have shown that texting while driving is worse than a typical .08 drinker.
Same and we should be.

Full stomach means nothing.
alcohol, in an empty stomach, enters your blood stream much faster than if your stomach is also digesting food.

Absorption time can range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. If you stopped drinking at 5 beers, you would likely break .08 after giving it 45 minutes or so

If you waited another 15 minutes after the 5th beer and tested again without drinking a 6th beer, i think you would have gone over .08.
The BAC is dependent on the amount of alcohol at a specific concentration by volume, your body weight, how long between each beer and how much you have metabolized out of your blood while waiting on the next one, and what is in your stomach to slow absorption. That’s why it’s not linear.
Awe man 4 miller lites is what got me a dui. I guess being only 150lbs has it's drawbacks. Blew .09, felt plenty sober...

Sounds about right. The rule I remember is that one 12 oz beer will put you around .02, and your body metabolizes approximately one drink in about an hour. So .09 after seven beers in two hours adds up.
There are a lot of factors to consider like type of beer, age, weight, how quickly you're drinking, empty or full stomach, etc.

When I was 17 my friend and I would drive an hour to the city to go to the 16 plus "dance party" at a roller rink. We would usually take shots and stuff before but this one time we poured a full liter of captain morgan silver into two half full big gulps and chugged them down. It kicked in while we were in the line and by the time we got in we were smashed! Went to the floor and started dirty dancing. He lasted about one song and spent the rest of the night puking in the bathroom. I danced my ass off for a few hours and had a blast. Then I had to drive us home an hour away with one headlight out. Got all the way back to town and got pulled over like 9 blocks away from our houses. I blew a .03 which would have been fine if I was 21, but I lost my license for 30 days for getting a "minor while driving". Varsity athletes can metabolize alcohol at alarming rates haha.

Body weight is an important factor in determining intoxication but also tolerance, how much you have eaten and your metabolism rates are also important factors.
Yeah, you metabolize over time so the longer you wait the more beers you need. Chug a 6 pack then test after 15 minutes.
You are forgetting that your body is eliminating about 1 beer per hour. That's why it took so long. If you drank it all at once and waited 15 minutes, you would have higher readings quicker. I also question the accuracy of an Amazon Roadside Screening Device when compared with a genuine RSD like Police use.
Many years ago when i was in my 30's i was a big 290 lb muscled up dude. Once I drank 3 miller bottles in a hour, waited for 30 minutes and got a ride to the local copshop and they tested me at .000, results will vary on body size and metabolism.
I drank an 18 pack of Busch Light in maybe 3-4 hours, ate 2 big plates of food, along with a Pepsi or 2, and then drove home and got pulled over for a taillight out. He's not drinking too slow, he's following the directions of the breathalyzer. You're supposed to wait a certain amount of minutes (I think it's 15-20) after the last drink you had to get the most accurate reading of BAC.
The 15 minutes is to eliminate any residual mouth alcohol that would give you an artificially high
reading.
2:51 Breathalyzer: "You're so blitzed you're dancing with your dog to the Footloose theme."
Ha!
See that seems about fair. I could sip a bottle of wine all day long and not wind up drunk but the second one is a knock over. lol

The sales of this product is going to SKYROCKET lol
You metabolize about .02 an hour. A typical beer or glass of wine or drink with one oz of alcohol will bump you up .02. Watery light beer slightly less. So the results of this are about right.
Food intake can affect absorption tho.
As far as the effects, tolerance is a thing but even for the tolerant reaction times suffer.
You should try and see how many Bud Lights until you're fabulous.
The 15 minute pauses are critical to the results. After the 1st beer it said he'd be sober in 1 hour 36 minutes, which means that first beer had been completely processed by the end of the test.
Takes about 20
Yeah it’s probably like 4 for .08 if he wasn’t drinking so slow

You really took one for the team, bro!
Drinking beer for science. Couldn't think of a better reason myself.
Give it an hour no drinking and blow again you may be surprised the bac may still rise. Also that is a super cheap tool and you are probably higher than the readings. You also can get a dui at below that “magic number”. Good content video
I can drink a 6 pack of light beer in an hour and never go above .08. I'm 260lbs...
Back in my drinking days, one of my friends bought a dozen Breathalyzers (a bigger unit then this with replaceable plastic tips) and gave them to all of us. We would basically take them to the bars and see who could get the highest score lol
THIS is what I’m talkin bout.
Remember, don’t drink and drive. You might hit a bump and spill your drink.
I think that breathalyzer might be broken so I definitely be real careful in following the results of that🤷♂️ because I definitely feel they are wrong☹️ because two beers in 1 hour can put you over 0.8
Totally inaccurate. 2.5 to 3 12oz light beers in under 1 hour could equal .08.
That little device could get people in big trouble. Plus you can get a DUI OWI with less or even no alcohol.

Honestly sounds about right people seem to forget .08 is actually a pretty decent buzz if your a drinker, if your a light weight you'll probably be higher.
That makes no sense. A heavy drinker would need to consume more alcohol to get the same buzz...
@humanimal5527 I was talking about body weight and being a lightweight not being an alcoholic. If your 100lbs 6 beers might be 0.10+ But 220lbs you'll probably be right at 0.08
“You are likely dancing to Kenny Loggins at this point”
Gotta tell the kid across the street some ideas for his next science project.
but if you drank 4 beers in the first 30 minutes you would've gotten to 0.08
I wanna see Shane Gillis do this at the end of a protect our parks episode
In the following, a drink is defined as a 12oz beer, a 5oz glass of wine or a 1 1/2oz shot of 80 proof liquor. The are some exceptions to the next rule but generally people absorb AND eliminate ethyl alcohol at a rate of one drink per hour. If you only consume one alcoholic drink per hour, your BAC would be 0.000% when you stop. Absorption can be decreased by eating (especially fatty foods) or increased by drinking carbonated alcohol. Breath alcohol does not come from mouth alcohol which evaporates in 10 minutes but rather from your lungs where a blood gas exchange takes place between the alveolar air and the pulmonary capillary. The only way you can prevent lung air from reaching a PBT or other breathalyzer is to refuse the test.
Quit drinking when I was 38
How I never got DUI I will never know. Glad I didn't hurt anybody😊
Keep in mind that even blowing 0.08 can still land you in jail for DUI if you are driving poorly. Since alcohol changes judgement you can make more mistakes. Finally, even one drink increases reaction time. Think of all the times you've had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting someone (usually they pulled in front of you without looking) - all those times you stopped just in time, you would have hit them (or they hit you). That's the risk you take with "moderate" (under 0.08) drinking and driving.
Remember the rule, one drink = 1 hour delay. It isn't perfect but it will help a lot (assuming you don't have a portable breathalizer).
If I drank 7 beers, even lite, I'd be hammered. No doubt.
Oissy
My friend got kicked out of a bar in Orlando for basically using one of these devices as a game. That’s a bar I would not go to.

“Your inhibitions will be lowered“. Dances with Dog.
Interesting video, well done. I did this at a media event with local police many moons ago. At 185 pounds, we figured my .08 limit was four light beers over two hours and probably max six over four hours. So many other factors though. Weight of individual, food in stomach to slow digestion, amount of alcohol in each beer, tiredness and time all have a bearing... and some people, depending on their health and tolerance, would fail a road sobriety test and be too intoxicated to drive safely well before the .08 mark. Since then, Ontario started pulling people off the road at .05, giving them a "warning" with a 3-day license suspension and $250 fine (plus a couple hundred bucks for court costs). At .08, it's criminal charges, longer suspensions and car impound costs, and the penalties multiply after each incident. There's also an expensive breath test ignition system you have to pay for as well. At 160 pounds, one light beer an hour (maxed at 4) is now my limit.
I know Trudy got pulled over and when he blew it registered Jagmeet.

A lot of things come into play. Empty vs full stomach, body weight, male vs female, altitude, etc. Unfortunately, it's not cut and dry, but the rule of thumb is 0.02 per average drink.
Other than body weight, the biggest factor is how frequently does he drink and the quantity. Let’s try this with someone that drinks only a few times per year.
When you start calculating how many beers you can drink to reach .08, that's a sign that you probably have a problem.
Used to love drinking beer, but now that I'm 67 I can't even get a buzz from beer. I'd have to fast for at least 16 hours, then a six pack may get me a slight buzz. I'm going to try this myself. I have a feeling that your BAC keeps going up even after you stop drinking because the alcohol takes longer to get into your system. I'll be curious to take a few tests in 15 minute increments after I stop drinking to see if it keeps climbing or goes down (and how quickly).

I work in a courthouse and it has made me so paranoid about driving after drinking anything - Did someone rear end you at a stoplight and its their fault? you can still get a DWI. Did you decide to sleep in your car instead of driving? you can still get a DWI. Were you a witness to a car accident and the cops ask you to give a statement about what you saw? you can still get a DWI. I've seen it over & over.

This is how I know I’m a lightweight. 2-3 and I’m feeling sloshed.
This is crazy cause after 4 beers I feel intoxicated enough that I shouldn’t be driving. My limit at night is 6 beers and that’s rare and by then I’m way too intoxicated to get behind the wheel. I feel like I’ve been drunk a lot of times but now I’m wondering how many times I’ve even exceeded the legal limit.
It depends on wayyyyy more factors than just number of beers. 2 can put the right person over the .08 limit. Size/weight and hydration heavily play into BAC. If you drink 2 gallons of water per day you can slam way more beers than someone who drinks a bottle or two a day. They will be plastered fast.
