It turns out my issue was a little different - the seat belt had become hung up on a plastic thing under the cover. But because of your video, I wasn't afraid to pry off that housing and figure out what the problem was. Thanks!
I saw a guy do this. The water and soap that the other guy used lubed the mechanism a little. I just pulled mine all the way out and shot some wd40 in there. Works a lot better now. It's just as good as this and the other guys fix but a lot easier.
Nice video. In addition to cleaning, I'm wondering if there isn't a way to get a little more tension in the retracting mechanism. Does it have a coil spring in it? Would it be possible to tighten that spring a little bit to get a more aggressive retraction?
Charles Senf i felt like that would of made this too complicated plus we do not use all of the seat belt so that means that the section in retractor should be clean.
It doesn't woke because of all the grim and dirt! pull it alll the way out , clamp with vise grips ,drop it into a bucket of warm soapy water for 30 mins. let dry and good as new!!
What is the connection between retracted seatbelt and dirty seatbelt?... Why washing the seatbelt will make it fixed......can someone explain to me... Don't it cause of the mechanical problem?

cool, ill have to do it to,
Thank you for watching
It would be a good idea to change the water a couple of times - just as your washing machine does. Maybe add some soap?

Thanks for watching unfortunately im not familiar of any way that you can add more tightening tension sorry
I just show it a picture of Rosie O'Donnell.
lame fix, cleaing the webing does not repair a weak spring. The spring still needs to be replaced
The belt in my 2K Dodge Dakota doesn't retract at all!
Why not remove the tether thing so you can put the entire belt in the solution (or almost all of it)?
Charles Senf i felt like that would of made this too complicated plus we do not use all of the seat belt so that means that the section in retractor should be clean.
Would have*
If I hear "right here".... One more time 😑
How can I release the middle seat belt in the back it's stuck
Zaima Lewis try using wd40 where it connects
If you just rotated the bit at the top it would have straightened it out!
Hi five ..I thought I was the only one who saw that

8 hours = 20 minutes 👽
Dude with this type of material is hot water and laundry detergent in a bucket for a couple of hours.

The dirt on the seat belt will make the Belt not retract smoothly, this won't damage your seat belt just let it dry
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE thanks man...
I used canned air to blow the dirt out of the retractor mechanism, It works great now. My belt was clean. 06 DTS Cadillac
@@steverzepecki500 just air blow?..no water and any kind of soap?
@@m.shafiq1685 blow out the retractor mechanism, my belt was clean.

Unsold cars sold dirt cheap
it doesn't work if you have 2 doors
+Kevin Advincula thank you for your input
There's no panel to take.
The whole panel would have to come out. Lol
But it gives you an idea how.
It did to me.
Wrong
Im going to have to try this trick. Mine still retracts all the way but does act sluggish... I have a 2012 Subaru Forester.
There are much better videos on the proper way to clean and lubricate the seat belt system. Good effort poor results.
