Q/A: If you can recall, how did you deal with your first professional game, nervousness wise. How do athletes break that wall of nervousness and being able to perform well out of their comfort zone. How did you personally cope with it, and how long did it take you before you were able to jump in a game with minimal nervousness.
My advice for those situations would be to just start off with the simple things and being aware and active in the game ( checking your shoulder , saying things like man on ! , hustling , especially on defense etc.) . Playing simple at first will make you more confident and get good warm up touches with the ball so you don’t get thrown in to cold waters during your first time with the ball.
There will always be some kind of nerves specially in big games. So that’s normal. 1. I like to look at the big picture of how thankful I am to be playing and it will be fun. 2. It helps big time knowing that you have put in the work in training and you are fit. 3. When you actually start the game play simple and quick but calm. The confidence will grow. 4. Work hard on defense and try to win the ball. Tackle. Your nerves will melt away. I made i video on how I prepare for games. Mentally and physically 👍🏼
The off-season is defo the best series on the channel. It made me do my own during our pre season here in England. I just love the consistency because we just get more class videos
Q&A: How did you parent feels about you wanting to be a professional soccer playing, did they believe in you? Also how did they feel about you dropping out of college?
Q&A: Can you please do a video/part of the video about resistance bands, their effectiveness, drills/exercises with them, how to use them to build muscle, speed, etc.
Q+A: What do most other USL players do during the off-season as far as income, when they know they plan to continue playing professionally snd sign another contract?
Q&A: last vid you talked about how you had people who you knew help you get to the pro level, how were you able to get those contacts and what are some ways we can make opportunities for ourselves so we can have scouts or people who can help us and what we should do to reach out to those scouts/helpful people?
Q&A: How did you lose weight at a young age? How was your schedule for training and working out and also fitting in homework at a young age? Love you channel
Q/A Matt, I really need your help. None of my friends play soccer, so how am I supposed to work on possession and game speed drills, when all I do is train by myself.
Q&A How do you adjust to different styles of play based on the opponent? For example a game where your team has most of the possession and fullbacks push high versus a solely defensive game where you just want a draw. How do you change your mindset for those different settings?
Sheldon truely helped me with 7mlc to get where i am today. an academy player. 4 time player of the year.15 average goals a season. thank you guys for getting me to where i am today. Love from canada!
Q+A: Many people associate becoming a professional athlete with making a lot of money. While that may be the case for players who play in top-5 leagues, not all professionals will experience this idea of guaranteed wealth. By no means do I have the intentions of playing professional soccer solely for money, but my question is... could you go over the financial realities/lifestyle of a professional soccer player in a 2nd/3rd league team? Would the income be enough to support a family with children? Would the player need to have other sources of income besides soccer? And/or would the player need another job after retiring professionally. Thank you!
I feel like you’re going to go back to Tulsa. This was your best season that I have seen and I’ve been watching you since you were in St. Louis. It’s either that or a team saw your season and scouted you and want you for their team. You had a great season Matt.
Q & A: Matt please i have few question. how good was level of football in germany?what was the biggest difference against US? How well you were paid? and last question is how you communicated with people who did not speak English? Thank you and wish u all the best Matt❤️
Q & A I’m pretty young 14 and 130 lbs. I’m starting to get into lifting and doing more compound lifts as well as eating healthy and in more capacity. Is there any advice you would give to younger people looking to gain weight and increase their lifts. I’m also aware of protein powders. What is your perspective on it and which one should I get. Just looking for some insight and maybe help out a couple other younger players.
Q/A As a professional how important is awareness and decision making and game understanding (the mental side of the game) and how did you make it part of your game ?
The main things necessary to be a Footballer I learned from his videos are: calculated risks, consistency, perseverance, fitness, hard work ,dedication, deliberate, commitment, strong will and never give up attitude.
Q&A: How where nervous wise when you got your first professional contract, and played your first professional game? And how did you, and other players break that nervous felling and be excited for your games. I always notice you are always positive and never fell nervous before your games in your vlogs. How did you cope with that feeling?
Q&A: How do you know how much to train? When does it become overtraining? Should I train individually the same day as team training and a weights workout? I know that was a lot of questions to answer but I don’t know if I should be working harder or not.
Can anyone answer me this please? So i've seen matt eating fruit for his brekfast/lunch/dinner (not only fruit but you know sometimes fruit is like a side meal) and some people around me told that it is bad to eat fruit after meals and that you should eat it like 1h before your meal. So my question is, who is wrong here and why? And also when is the right time to eat fruit? Thanks if anyone answers this
Q&A Hi Matt you talk about how when you were a kid how you played for club and your school. What if your advice to players who want to be the best they can, but don’t have the money to play for a club team?
Q&A What is your advice for a youth player who has had two major injuries in the past year that kept them out for 3+ months each? How can that player get back to their top form both mentally and physically?
Q/A how should you prepare for trial/tryouts that is coming up and what should you do on the day of the trial before the trial starts (mentally and physically)
Q+A: how did u manage soccer and school in the winter when it gets darker outside earlier. For me I get home at 3 :40 and it gets dark at 4. Any training tips
Q&A: Being a professional footballer, you have a lot of routine and structure to your life. Do you enjoy that or would you prefer to be able to do what you want, when you want?
Q/A I'm currently in UK (u15) and I put a lot of work in football with my team and also because of Covid19 by myself but I still dont play games with my team and I feel like I can still improve so I wanted to ask what can I do to improve individual training (cause most of my friends play Basketball and I can't really train in groups or partners) and what's the best way to get seen.
Q&A when you train at home and practise how should you do it, a variety of different exercises in the one longer training session or a shorter practise but only working on the one thing and focussing on that for a short period of time. What method would you say would benefit and improve me as a player ?
Only a small question: have you ever played a video game with yourself in? I don’t think you’ve been in any FIFA’s but have you ever been in Football Manager and how does it feel to be in a game?
What are your long term plans for work after your playing career ends? Do you intend to stay involved in the game eg with coaching? There are many ways to stay involved in football outside of playing, so it would be interesting to know if you see yourself taking one of those routes or having a complete change from the game
Q&A: Should players be getting in extra work/how much extra should they be putting in if they’re currently in season with their high school team and club team. For me, I’m training 5 days a week with my high school and 2 of those days I have club training right after and by the end of the week I feel like I have almost over trained my body. (I know this feeling will eventually go away) but what would you recommend for me to get in extra training?
Q&A: I know it differs from player to player, but currently I am getting in 7 full team training sessions a week and there are still things I want to improve. Should I be training even more outside of my team when I’m getting in 7 sessions in 5 days. My only off days are the weekends.
Do you get off season plans from your club ? Obviously if you’re only ever on one year contracts you probably don’t but would be interested to know what they advise to you when you leave.
Matt, I had a question that I can receive a ball from air pretty well and have a decent first touch but I cannot do more than 5 juggles,so can you advise on how to get better at juggling
Q/A Im 17, live in France and we're on lockdown right now. So no team training or groupe training with friends. I can only do personal trainings everyday. I know that i am a solid all rounder player ( skills technical physical and fitness wise) and my coach said that i am very vesatile. As you said in your past videos, its important as a teenager to work on every aspects of the game. But im at the point where i dont know what to work on or what to do in my trainings, any advice for me and people in my sistuation ?
depends what countries you're playing at. Some countries you'll find it easier to get by with english but some places you're gonna have to get to grips with the local language. Like for example, at Bayern Munich, it is a requirement for all foreign players to be able to learn to communicate in German
High school senior here. All about building relashionship a with college coaches and other high level coaches for connections as soon as you can. Get in their list early.
Q/A Hey Matt how are you I just wanted to ask you if you have had any teammate's that have started to get aggressive and if so how did you handle it thanks :-)
Q/A: When did you make the switch to RB from Forward? And do you think it’s a good idea for players to try to switch to a position they want to play or play the position their coach says they are best at?
Q+A: what’s the highest high and what’s the lowest low you’ve had in your career so far? ⚽️📊
