  • G'day everyone! In this video I show you how to replace the heater valve and auxiliary water pump on a BMW E34, although this is very similiar for most models. My car nearly overheated a few months ago when the fittings on my pump snapped off, and I've been cruising around with a temporary fix for far too long! Here's how to do it properly. The part number for the heater valve is: 64118391417. The part number for the aux. pump is: 64118390090. The part number for rubber mounts is: 64111390940. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video! I just bought an E34 530i and it had a coolant leak at the aux water pump. I bypassed the entire system use a 15mm brass tee and also a 15mm straight tee with threads. If you're unsure about the sizes or want to double check, pull out the shortest hose that only flows in and out of the heater valves system itself and take that to the shop. I had all the hoses connected to one another; the one coming off the rear engine block, the 2 heater core lines and the short line that flows in/out of the heater valve system, use them all, make a circular connection and you're good to go (until you save up enough money to afford a $500 aux water pump from BMW)

    You need to also note that after installing a new auxiliary pump, sometimes they keep running continuously, and sometimes they don’t work at all. They should only come on when a certain temp is selected on the heater control and the outside temp is over a certain degree. Many times the issue is a faulty relay. The auxiliary water pump relay - # 10 RELAY - not fuse in the under hood fuse panel. Of course also make sure all the fuses are intact.

    Thanks for the video. My 740i e32 has the same pump and it broke at the exact same spot.

    I had this exact problem with my 540i a few years ago, way up in a little mountain town about 2 hours away from home. In one of my biggest strokes of luck yet when it comes to fixing cars, I bought a piece of brass pipe fitting to stick in the two radiator hoses that go to/from the auxiliary pump to bypass it just like you did. I had no heater, but worked like an absolute charm to get me home! In fact, since summer was just starting, I actually left it that way for 6 months before putting the new pump in lol.
    Great channel! I'll check out your how-to videos next time I need some E34 repair help. ;)

    Great clips for reference to carry out work. I've got a M50 525i but I've been looking for a 540i to buy. Anyway these cars are some of the finest machines BMW ever made.

    Thanks for the great concise video! My heater valve just broke and I’m stuck in a similar situation as you where I need the car and can’t wait for the parts to take their time to ship. My car’s currently in the shop right now so I don’t have easy access to measure the diameter of the hoses. I was wondering if you still recall the size of that brass pipe you used to connect the two hoses. All help is greatly appreciated!

    What do you recommend doing or replacing if your fittings haven't broken (yet)? Can the fittings be replaced without replacing the heater valve and pump? Thanks for your help. Vic

    Mine just broke at the same location, you did way to much to bypass it lol if anyone is reading this all you need to do it take off the small hose with all the curves that run from the pump to the inlet of the heater valves and put the hose that broke (from pump inlet) and connect it to there where the small hose was connected to the inlet heater valve. Done! Takes 10 min! You should have one lose hose small one with curves you don't need it, but keep it that thing is expensive.

    Top quality videos, thanx! I'm thinking about replacing head gasket on my e34 myself. Does anyone have any material (tutorial link or else) on head gasket replacement? Thanx anyway.

      Cheers mate! I haven't attempted anything that involved yet, but I think there's a few posts around on the forums which would detail how to do it. Do you have a 540i or a six cylinder?

    Is the broom stick hose the one that goes to the cylinder? Or one that goes into firewall?

    Please tell me which hoses you connect together and which hose you put the broomstick in?

    Dude... I broke both of my side mirrors just so I can reconnect the wires... Please, if you ever have time, consider making video of how to properly replace whole side mirror and/or just the mirror part.

    • @SamuelVella1995
      @SamuelVella1995  7 років тому +1

      +Xw0rkS I'll need to replace my side mirrors soon, because my right hand side one is really worn out. When that happens I'll record it. Not sure if I'll do the entire side mirror though, but it wouldn't be too hard!

    • @XW0RKS
      @XW0RKS 7 років тому +1

      trust me, entire side mirror is easier then just replacing the mirror it self from the housing. I think there is certain technique or maybe even a tool for replacing just mirror. And still they are so fragile and easy to crack.

    • @SamuelVella1995
      @SamuelVella1995  7 років тому

      +Xw0rkS I'm thinking a large suction cup might do the trick? I'll look for a forum post about it

    You don't need to bleed the air?

    Do you know how to change the blower motor/resistor? There are no videos on E34 540i's.

    • @tablue50
      @tablue50 3 роки тому

      It’s in the driver side footwell - you have to remove the carpeted panel near the drivers right knee to see it. It’s a small blue box with a spring inside it. It will often burn out if leaves or garbage gets stuck in it. It can be removed quickly and easily once you’ve done it once or twice. If you’re changing this you should also change your in cabin air filter, and vacuum the area were it sits with a long nosed wet vac attachment.

    hey i have the exact same problem, my aux water pump broke, i made the same fix and bypass the hoses and know my bmw e34 530i is overheating in low revs, do you have any solution for that? yours overheated without the aux water pump?

    • @SamuelVella1995
      @SamuelVella1995  6 років тому

      Hey, make sure you've got your hoses around the right way. Also, make sure you don't have air trapped in your coolant lines (on the 540 it self bleeds) and that you have enough coolant. If that doesn't help maybe your water pump on you engine is gone.

    • @MrLgm001
      @MrLgm001 6 років тому

      i changed everything in my coolant system but still have that problem, i will check the hoses again, thank you!

      Raphael Gauthier I know its been 2 months, but was the blower motor working when you said that it had no air at all? Or just not blowing heat? Did you ever try flushing out your heater core?

    Happened to me with my 518i E34 but it was the plastic flange from radiator to engine. I have a M43B18. I honestly would like to lynch that moron who said to the engineer to make all the parts of the cooling system out of plastic just to make the production a little bit cheaper
