As both a drag queen of 27 years and someone who's watched Jinkx Monsoon's ascent since she first stepped in front of a television camera, I can attest she represents something quite unique that speaks to a huge spectrum of people. Had RuPaul only been looking for a polished professional that excels in every category of the craft, it's unlikely Jinkx would have gotten far. Instead, RuPaul saw something in her that said "that's one to watch" and to see this underdog pull the carpet out from under her poised competitors that year - virtually none of whom saw her as a threat to their own stardom - had America cheering. It was even more poetic that upon bringing the other winners RuPaul had crowned over the years back for a "best of the best" competition, Jinkx returned a much more refined artist but again bested her contemporaries....because she hadn't allowed anything about the cutthroat business or the marginalization that remains a constant reality change who she was inside. That's impossibly rare with drag queens. It's not something you can fake with hip pads and synthetic hair. For someone whose craft is built on illusion, there is nothing artificial about her. As evidenced by the crowds at the theater door, Jinkx Monsoon is a genuine superstar to many. Broadway is merely the lastest to catch on.
And don't forget, Drag Race allowed the fans to vote for winner on her season (5), and she won the popular vote. I've been keeping tabs of her all these years as well. ♥
Wish I lived closer to places she performs , I’ve always rooted for her. She’s my top favorite queen from RPDR, she’d be such a blast to just chill hang out with. ❤️❤️
I've seen Jinkx in Chicago - that first night, everyone was there to see her. And a huge component of the audience is still Jinkx Monsoon fans. Most of the people there already know who she is and love her.
I have cheered for you, Jinkx, since your first appearance on drag race. If I had known you existed before that I know I would have been all happy knowing where you were headed. Thank you for crossing my path. You are the most delightful human being.
So lucky to have seen Jinkx Monsoon perform Matron Mama Morton in my favorite Broadway musical, Chicago, last night and she exceeded my expectations. I have been a fan since she was on Season Five of RuPaul's Drag Race and loved her ever since because she is such a pro, such a phenomenal performer giving 110% onstage, and so articulate, quirky, funny, kind, smart, generous and talented. Would love to see Jinkx as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, the Witch in Into The Woods and Mama Rose in Gypsy. Long may she flourish and continue to amaze us all. Brava, diva!
@@CoutureCr0chet Yes, Jinkx came out of the stage door with a handful of Sharpies, made an announcement and then proceeded to sign Playbills for everyone. She could not have been nicer or sweeter about the whole thing and she signed my dvd of Jinkx and DeLa's Holiday Special and the beautiful Playbill for Chicago with a fabulous photo of her on the cover. You will have a wonderful time, Abby!
Jinkx is such a class act. I've rooted for them for many years, and wish them the very best in their life. Good luck and break a leg Jinkx Monsoon Blessings and prayers to everyone ✨🙏🕊️🙏✨
Thank you for this beautiful interview! I simply adore Jinkx, such an amazing all round talent, I'm so happy for her, for everything she achieved, she's also a generous, and kind soul, and she remained completely humble! I do hope that she'll return here to London, England, very soon!!
One of the reasons I love Jinkx was when she won she got on the floor and bowed before us on that stage such grace, humility and talent only clear winner that season 😍. When I saw her on the AS7 line up I knew again she’d win and man she gave those girls whiplash lol
Wasn't it her Day of the Dead look that was the first one that we went insane in love with and Rolaskatox just totally dismissed as stupid? I think the Yma Sumac Malumbo No 1 lip sync with Detox came later. You know, the one where she mopped the floor with Detox. I have forgiven Alaska and Detox. Roxxy Andrews not so much. Btw, anybody hear anything about Roxxy lately? I haven't for a while. Hear a bit about Detox and Alaska's everywhere it seems. But no word on Roxxy.
Such a talented mimic! I forgot for just a moment that it was Jinkx doing Natasha Leone and I thought it was THE Natasha Leone under all that curly hair. Uncanny. Little Edie, Judy Garland. What a gifted performer!
Jinkxy! I’ve been lucky enough to see them (and Major Scales) many times in Provincetown. With all this success that probably won’t happen again, but I’m so happy that so many more people will get to see them now! I hope this role leads to bigger and bigger things.
She was wonderful. I fell into tickets in the third row for Jinkx debut. I had no idea of who she is and what the significance of the evening was… Wow! She was amazing. I feel very fortunate to have been there that evening. The night felt different and special. It truly was and one that I will never forget.
I dare say Jinkx will probably be a EGOT winner. She's as polished & as fully realised a character as the iconic Dame Edna. I think the Winners season was a secret test for the new supreme...
I love Jinkx Monsoon. They seem like a genuinely nice person. No artifice and we're better than everyone else attitude at all. Jinkx is my heroine! They deserve every success. ✌🇨🇦🌈❤❤❤
I want her to star in a revival of gray gardens. She’d be a shoo-in for the role (naturally) and While It wouldn’t necessarily be the same as the Christine Ebersole production, I think it would still be (to paraphrase little Edie) an artistic smash.
I have some thoughts Jinkx.... Here's one.... What about a revival of Bells Are Ringing?? You play Ella. Maybe get Lea DeLaria as the male lead, Jeffrey Moss?? Hmmmmmmmm??????????
Congratulations to Jinkx Monsoon, who is very talented, but why does Broadway honor drag queens and plots about cross dressing and shy away from portraying transgender stories with trans actresses.
@@longarmoftheOOHLALA I hope so but there are some very good trans actresses who could play major roles, like from “Pose” and “Sense8” and “Transparent”.
I absolutely agree. However, I want to note that Jinkx is actually trans femme, and Peppermint who was the first drag queen to play a principal role in a broadway musical before her, is a trans woman (and a black woman at that). So yes, definitely more trans characters need to be written! But Jinkx and Pep are themselves trans so I just wanna note that.

Your comments are spot on. I remember watching the finale and crying when she won. I was so happy for her. I'm thrilled she continues to have success.

She would rock as Mama Rose in Gypsy.
I'd love to hear her rendition of "Rose's Turn"
Always my favorite queen. So talented, so kind, and brings the talent to the art of drag! I’m crying from how proud I am of Jinx Monsoon.
You're not alone, Jae! Just bursting with pride for our Jinkx!
Since drag is famously already a part of Chicago, Jinkx as Mama feels like a perfect fit.

I want to know what Roxy Andrews thinks about this, because she was so so so envy with my gorgeous queen jinx
