I bristle when people refer to Roadhouse as a movie that is "so bad it's good". I've even heard professional critics refer to it as such. It's just not accurate. It is not in the same company as Miami Connection, Hard Ticket to Hawaii, Samurai Cop, etc. The people that made Roadhouse knew exactly what they were doing and executed on their vision. It has an atmosphere and tone that existed in the 1980s but no longer exists. I have not seen the remake yet, but I would assume its more overtly self-aware and jokey, and as such, not as fun or even as funny as the original. When the premise itself is already ridiculous playing it straight and sincere is best. Anything else is a hat on a hat.
One of my gripes of the remake was the main villain. It's like we got stuck with the dip-shit son of the main villain instead. We get a few lines from his father over the phone and it's obvious he's really in control so it takes away from his son being a truly effective adversary.
I’m usually not this mean on here, but I hate this review bc it’s the kind of cutesy academic word salad that serves only to nullify the anxiety this guy had while watching a movie about really tough manly men. It portrays something raw and real about male relationships and power that he cannot allow himself to entertain. I’m no tough guy either, I wouldn’t- couldn’t- hang with this biker gang. But I can’t imagine disparaging the movie and reducing it to a “deconstruction” of masculinity in the movies when clearly it’s about something so much more. This kind of analysis robs one of having a visceral reaction to a film and instead tucks art away into a little box where it’s not scary anymore.
I watched all your other vids till this one....Road House is not good I'm sorry. The film work, this is such an American film as a Canadain I hate this crap. The flop of the remake shows that people didn't even want to see it again.
Great video on Road House. An absolute 80s classic.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
I have seen this film with every member of my family. It was the first film I showed my wife when we were dating. She loved it. We are married.
Sounds like a keeper!
Great review man.
Appreciate it brother! Thanks for watching
RIP Patrick 😢🙏
Never NEVER met a person who doesn't love Roadhouse. Cheesier than a fondue, but it knows it is and completely leans into it.
Agreed! It’s just non-stop entertainment! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Right here its Americana crap...any one outside the US cant stand this film

"Road House" could only happen in 1980's Joplin, Missouri and not 2020's Joplin, Missouri...but I could be wrong. Awesome review!
Thank you! You’re not related to Rowdy Harrington by chance?
@@FilmJournalActually he spells his name with an "e" Herrington
Good serious analysis. Could David Lean have done a better job with this script? Don't think so. 😀
Haha

Nothing you just wrote holds any substance or intellectual value. Begone, philistine.

The new one flopped (just like the new point break) because they just made us fans want to rewatch the originals!!
