Fascinating! James Morris has always been one of my absolute top favorites, both vocally and dramatically. I saw him in the tiniest roles, as well as his renowned starring roles. There wasn’t enough time to touch on some of the other parts I saw him in: Boris, Mephistopheles, Sachs, Dutchman, and all those Verdi roles! I once dragged my wife and friends to see him (and Barbara Cook) at Caramoor, and the playbill lauded him as the greatest “WONTON!”

Very fine interview. Particularly appreciated are the anecdotes regarding John Dexter and Norman Treigle.
