Friday The 13th - Filming Locations - Finding Original Camp Crystal Lake

  • www.AdamTheWoo.com - PLEASE RATE & SUBSCRIBE - I decided to visit some of the spots from the very first Friday the 13th film. I went a different direction with this video and just showed raw footage instead of overlaying film stock and sound effects. I felt that since so many others have done these spots before me its only fair to give them credit and not overdo my version. Enjoy !

    Hey there Adam,
I actually met the lady that played Mrs. Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) at Dragon*Con one year in the early 2000's. She was one of the Sweetest little old ladies that you would ever want to meet. I met her on the last day of the con as she was waiting for her ride to the airport. She was sitting on the floor of the Marriott Marquee' when I noticed her so I decided to keep her company until her ride came and I sat down in front of her and I was able to just sit and talk. I don't remember exactly what we talked about though. I didn't want to ask her for her autograph there because the con was already over, so I bit my tongue. I wish I had now as she passed away almost a full year ago now (May 29, 2015). I will never forget meeting her though and just how nice she was. She was DEFINITELY one of the better stars out there.

Over this past summer, I recently drove down to Blairstown and checked out all of the filming locations and even snuck into Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. I got a few pictures of the camp but we were asked to leave about 15 minutes after entering. I was lucky enough to get close to the lake shore and saw the main cabin from the film. They have a nice little museum called the Blairstown Museum, the building of which was used as the exterior of the bar that Annie entered at the very beginning of the film. It was there that I picked up a nice book called On Location in Blairstown: The Making of Friday the 13th. I read through the entirety of that book and it's incredibly interesting. The people at the Museum are so kind and heartwarming! I had also stopped and ate at the diner that Steve Christy did in the film. They had some pretty good food!
It really is a nice, quaint little New Jersey town. I'm glad I only live an hour and a half away.

I was about 11 years old when the 1st Friday The 13th come out . I remember my step dad's friend and his girlfriend went to see the movie when it first come out and afterwards he was so scared , he slept with his shotgun beside his bed. We all kinda laughed at him . I've never seen the original camp Crystal lake . Thanks for sharing !!

I grew up in Blairstown NJ where FT13 was filmed. Most of the buildings and streets in the movie are a part of my childhood. My parents and sister still live there. I remember how cool we thought a group of guys in our class where when they managed to score some props from mother dumpster at Camp NoBeBosCo !! Who knew we would be part of horror movie history!! Great little town. Movie theater show FT13 every month there is a Friday 13th.

Good job on the video dude. Being a true 80's youth, growing up then, and loving the Friday the 13th videos go virtually hand in hand. The true movie installments (Parts 1-9) are even spiritual in this regard and accurate cultural portrayals of 80's youth. And it helps if you are a lifetime fanatical fan of just about all horror movies that exist, as I am. However, I refuse to recognize any Jason movies past Friday Part 9, even though it was made in 1993. Most importantly because it was the last in a CONSTANT succession of output, and the 80's ways hadn't really died out yet at that time. Everything after that was totally disconnected to this regular prolific output both in regards to time, and the vibes of 1-9. So here is my own basic bit of info to add:
General filming locations for each movie (just off the top of my head):
    Part 1: Blairstown, New Jersey.
    Part 2: Connecticut.
    Part 3: Los Angeles, CA.
    Part 4: Los Angeles, CA.
    Part 5: Los Angeles, CA.
Part 6: In some woods right outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
Part 7: Baldwin County, Alabama (very near the city of Mobile).
    Part 8: New York City.
Part 9: Cannot remember at this moment. Temporary loss of memory from xanax usage.

Great job, Adam. I've actually never seen Friday the 13th - couldn't get into those movies, for some reason, but just the cemetery itself and the cabin creeps me out - lol. Well done! :) I also took note that it was filmed here in NJ - never knew that, so it was like a piece of trivia that I hadn't known. :) Thanks for sharing! :)

I had a chance to take a trip to North Jersey this morning. On the way back I saw the sign for Blairstown on 80, so I took the quick drive up. Was kind of cool checking everything out. Went over to the camp and the gate was closed with posted signs everywhere. I almost took the walk down but the monsoon that was blowing through stopped me. I think some of the back roads leading to the camp were creepier than the camp itself.

someone needs to do some filming location shots from "Mother's Day" from 1980. It was shot at the same time as the original Friday the 13th in woods not too far from Blairstown. I did find the general store, and Jackie lived at 300 East 34th street in NYC. Anyone know where the horror house is?

Yup, just a few miles from here in Blairstown, we have 'Shades of Death" road. The sign has been stolen so many times, that now it's a cement pole labeling the street. At the other end of Blairstown, through Columbia and into Hainesburg, is the Paulinskill Viaduct which is pretty creepy too...Funny to see this - we walk Main St several times a week here! :)

In Hope NJ, on the tiny Main Street there, you will find location where they shot the Diner scene with Annie when she was looking for a ride. Crazy Ralph makes his first appearance right outside. I believe it is now a Antique or Hardware store. It's just down the road from the Moravian cemetary.
