I can think of Kawhi as another player with defensive gravity in his defensive prime. Teams would play 4 on 4 basketball to avoid getting him involved in any action due to his ability to guard and steal the ball.
Teams still avoid kawhi to this day. You almost dont see players trying to iso him.

They even joked before that Lebron used to sleep late the night before he played with the Spurs because of Kawhi 🤣 Because Kawhi is always the one guarding him.
But Leonard is no longer the Kawhi of 2013-2014 today. He slowed down.
One of the players with immense defensive gravity is the Utah's Rudy Gobert. Dude made one of the worst defensive team be a top 5 defense by himself
Him and Asuar are locks for all defensive first team like you said a lot of his impact defensively doesnt show in the box score if he wins DPOY its going to be legendary
Even if the Spurs are losing rn, I'm still watching because it's fun to watch Wemby play. Also, I like Vassel, too. Hopefully, Pop starts running actual plays for Wemby soon because I feel like rn they're just observing and seeing what he can actually do. I have no doubt that Wemby will improve his long-range shooting, too, and when that happens, he will be a complete threat on both ends of the court. He already has a good mid-range jumper anyway. I just want him to stay healthy so that I can see the full season.
At this point, I don't even look at the scoreboard, I just don't even care about how badly the Spurs are losing. All I want to see is basically Wemby making good plays and good signs of Wemby making progress. Losses with the Spurs don't concern me whatsoever.
They need a New statistics for Wemby. 3pts block shots or Number of time player refuse to shoot :)
Wemby and Gobert on the same team in the Olympics will be interesting
And Bilal Coulibaly, this will be by far the best defensive frontcourt in the world. Nobody talk about Bilal but he is just as good as Ausar imo

I have watched basketball for many years. I have never seen the stuff Wemby does to players. Players give up completely on trying. In the Warriors game, Steph was in front of Wemby maybe 3 feet from the basket, but refused to shoot it cause Wemby was behind him stretching his hands, then in another play Steph tried all his tricks to get rid of Wemby and couldn't get enough space to feel confident to shoot. The amount of players that see Wemby and do something silly to avoid him blocking it is insane. Its completely not in the stats but him just being around means teams aren't going to the basket
Deflections aren't an official stat but Wemby averages 2.8 of it pg. If you add that to his 3.6 bpg and 1.2 spg, that's huge.
And this is before his body fills out and his coordination is perfected. Wemby still has trouble keeping his entire frame aligned at times, so when he gets that down there's going to be entire sections of the floor that are just off-limits for the offense.

Its wild that, with max effort, he can basically lock down the entire paint by himself for short periods AND is able to guard on the perimeter better than almost every big man in NBA history. AS. A. ROOKIE.
If he doesn't win dpoy I'm calling shenanigans.
His team is top 5 worst defense in nba atm, and they might win less than 30 games. So unlikely he will win that award this year. But he can be the goat defender when it's all said and done.

U forgot about prime dwight howard. His defensive gravity was insane. He could also step up to 3pointers and the man actually blocked them.

If they keep playing like there is no way he gets DPOY but for sure he should be mentioned for his unique skills. Dude is still 19...
He currently have the 3rd best odds to win defensive player of the year behind Gobert and AD. Victor is currently averaging 3.9 Stocks (Blocks + Steals) per game which is tied with AD for the most in the league as a rookie. In my opinion he should be the overwelming favorite to win it.

You can feel the discomfort of opposing players when you are in the arena. I was fortunate enough to be near courtside when he played Chet in preseason. You could just feel the thunder players thinking what the hell is this.
Obligatory Chet is awesome and we're good. But Wemby is still terrifying.

Pop isn’t using Wemby the right way , Sochan at the point is terrible and some of those players don’t give a fuck about winning. + expect Sochan and wemby nobody try to defend, they don’t know to play or defend as a team .
Just don’t have a good enough squad, got cedi osman and doug McDermott as our vets which isn’t terrible but that’s all we have. We are too young, all of the starters are under 25
