Such a cute idea! Can you explain how to centre the design on the doormat? The way the glowforge works, its hard to figure out how to get the design centred. Im having no luck with that. Thanks so much!
Hi Parisa! I actually used blue painters tape to outline the border of the mat to the size of the cutting area of the Glowforge bed (about 19”x11”). So after making a border of tape in this size on the mat and centering it on the mat, I was able to see the tape on the computer screen through the app when the machine is on. Then, I just eyeballed where to drag my text according to the markings of the tape border.
Hello, I love learning form you. Thank you. Question... you stated that the 40"X17" mat would not need to be cut down to fit into my Pro... Im not seeing how that is possible. What am I missing here...?? I assume you were referencing using the pass thru feature however, I am under the impression that the mat is too thick to pass thru... can you elaborate when you get a minute> Thanks much
Hi Brad! Thanks for the question. I believe you are right, the thickness of the material won’t fit through the pass through. I must have read the specifications wrong and I apologize! I will have to update that in the description of this video. Thanks for clarifying this for me!
I am fixing to order one from your site for the discount but before I do I am wondering about the program to run it with through your computer is it hard or do you even have to use a program to design or can you just buy patterns and do the patterns tell you what settings to put everything on. I’m just worried about designs like what is on this doormat in the video. I have watch some videos where they are using Adobe and I was so lost. Thanks
Hi Lynn! The program that you use to operate the machine is a web-based program through Glowforge and it is very user friendly. I have a tutorial on my page on how to operate it if you need to check that out ua-cam.com/video/afXivpxioYs/v-deo.html . And I use Inkscape to design my projects (similar to Adobe but it's free). You don't necessarily need to use these applications if you don't plan on designing but it is helpful when you need to add text to a design you purchase or to just customize your project. Some people will give instructions if you buy their designs but others don't. It just depends on the person selling the project. I personally just watched a lot of different videos on Inkscape and how to operate it, and also videos on Glowforge itself. I was able to learn everything by just watching a lot of UA-cam videos and I still do today, so it does take time.
Hi! I needed it to be at a certain height for it to engrave properly, so I just stacked sheets of wood to make it easier and that made me get the specific height I wanted for this project.
I have 2 cricut machines and I thought they were amazing but I love this machine 🤧 toooo expensive they should do a smaller version for beginners maybe less money
I don’t plan to put any finish on it since it’s a seasonal mat and I won’t be using it all year. But since it’s engraved and the fibers are burned, I think it should last quite a while.
Hi! I love the variety of materials from Smokey Hill Designs smokeyhilldesigns.com My favorite wood is probably 1/8" Sapele Plywood. I really like the darker color and it goes well with a lot of my projects. The cherry plywood is very nice too!
@@85thandPine thank you so much!! I just recently found out about there website but didn't know what the best materials were. Will definitely be ordering some Sapele! Also, I love your channel, it has helped me out a lot since getting my Glowforge Pro 😊
Hi Gail! Thanks so much for asking. If you want to order a machine and use my referral code, here is the link: glowforge.us/f/LVUKZGOS It will get you either $250 off a plus or $500 off a pro model. My dad is so excited to get me one, I told him I rather give you the credit because you always respond to anything I ask and plus you explain things so well about this machine. I will pass this info on to him. Thank you do much.
I measured the mat where the center was and created a design on Inkscape to fit the measurements of that center piece. And placed it on the Glowforge app the best I could in alignment with the cutting area.
I've been able to successfully work for myself with just this machine for the past 9 months, and it has been much more rewarding than I initially thought. With this particular project, it has some added steps to it and I actually don't sell these as physical items, I just did this tutorial to showcase what Glowforge is capable of. With that said, some projects are more detailed than others but it's actually a very straightforward machine and user-friendly. Plus, it's exciting to create a variety of items! :)

I’m real curious to see how it looks after you wipe feet? That’s cool
Awesome video, do we have to use that specific mat though?
You can use any other coir mat you choose. That’s just the one I bought. I’m not sure what other mats would engrave besides coir.
New to glowforge and just wondering why you didn’t engrave on the crumb tray?

Are you going to have to finish it off in any way to make it last? Will the engraving eventually wear off without sealing it in some way?

If you were to do something, you could use Flexshield clear on it to seal it and weatherproof it a bit.

How do you get the design so evenly placed?

How long did it take the mat to engrave?
It took about 2 hrs and 20 mins with my basic model
