    I think doing a monochromatic painting is a very important and valuable lesson. As you demonstrate in your video, it really teaches you how to see the highlights and shadows of a subject (or object) without getting caught up in colour. I’ve avoided doing a black & white painting because I love colour so much, but I recognize that it really would be a really good learning opportunity!

I have drawn the face and thought I'd check out your quick version here - shall look at the Patreon one later in the day. I haven't decided what colour to do yet . . I have been doing needlework/embroidery, my other loves, and now have the need to use a brush ;-) It's good to know you are always around - just a few clicks away!

    Amazing! This is what I really need to work on. Love your teaching skill and as a newbie watercolorist have learned so much from you. I must also say that I loved hearing the rain. I can’t even express how quickly it pulled me back to my stays in Australia when my daughter and her family lived there. It is one of my favorite places to vacation and I miss the laid back atmosphere in Melbourne. Reminded me of when I was a young girl. Very real!

    This is really helpful Louise - for me it will help me with the process of painting horses coats which I have tried to do all at once - now I will do it in careful layers! It also looks to me as though it's important not to have the paper too wet so you get soft edges but the paint doesn't spread to far/fast. Looking forward to seeing this on Patreon!

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  3 роки тому +1

      I'm glad Rowena. Thank you! Sneak up on the darks and use the wetness of the paper and the thickness of the paint mixture to help you. If it's too wet- wait a few minutes.

    Fabulous! you must be psychic - I have been thinking about a monochrome portrait recently: we have a programme here called Portrait Artist of the Year and they've been airing older ones during lockdown - I saw an artist who did her version of the sitter in monochrome blue - she used W&N ink! it was really effective. Love yours here - that Winsor Green is lovely isn't it, I don't use mine much - it's not an 'everyday' kind of colour I find - but beautiful. Thanks for your hard work - look forward to the full length version as and when! Keep well.

      Just on this one Lynn. There's only very subtle variations in tonal differences on the reference photo that I used. If I was painting a portrait of someone who was out in the sun and had lots of light areas and heavily contrasted areas I would probably leave white paper showing where it was lightest.
