Apparently, he reckons that Mods came after the hippies. Well Mods were 1964 to about 66/67, then it changed to hippies around 1969, which was the first summer of love. He's a bit confused by the looks of it.

This interview brought back so many memories I remember the Ivy shop it was in Richmond they also sold gibsons and smooths shoes . Awsome shop I used to work in Kings road in the Village gate it was a Saturday job there was also a shop called Cassidys in Kings Road , in Kensington church street there was another good shop called Stanley Adam's I actually had one of there macs. Martin KIng knows the history my next birthday I will be 66 so he must be around the same age.Tassle loafers are still in fashion 2022

Brilliant this fantastic watch well done and so many memories
With regards to who started the casual movement I remember Arsenal wearing Farah trousers shoes and Gabicci tops
The Scousers always were on the rob especially with England big bags of gear they had on them and to be fair they started the straight leg jeans they were the kings of the Adidas trainers trim Trab s and first with the wedge mushroom hairstyles, the explosion took place in London after that big article with the 4 lads in the face magazine that’s when the Tachini Fila La Coste Benetton Pringle thing went crazy and the truth is the scousers dropped out of it because of the cost and went perm hairstyles chunky knitwear patch work jackets while the London boys took it to another level although to be fair I thought Portsmouth were always really snappy 657 boys in their lemon la Coste faded Lois and deer stalkers
Great memories loved those times and yes I remember Stuart’s at Shepherds Bush my very first Pringle was bought from there I wanted a blue one ended up buying a red one but didn’t care was that desperate for one lol
we got to do some stuff together and these memories are just fantastic, those days were just the best years of my life

He doesn't even know the basics about skinheads. Skinheads came from Mod, Hard Mod and Rude Boys to be exact. The Scousers didn't go to London for their gear, they went on their Euro travels and lifted their sports/casual clobber. The end.

80's casual brands could be trimmed down to: Fila, Tacchini, Diadora, Adidas, Lacoste, Burberry, Aquascutum, Pringle, L&S and Kappa. All the others like Stone Island etc came way after the original scene had died out. If you had to describe the classic casual dress, it would be L&S polo, Fila track top or LAcoste jumper, Lois or Levi jumbo cords and a pair of Adidas Trimm Trab or Diadora Borg Elite. A leather jacket with a hood or a Burberry blouson if it was cold or wet. Aquascutum scarf, deer stalker hat or similar completed the look.

The stone island storey in cardiff, is because of the cardiff soul crew, thay were at the top of the football hooligan days then, thay banned all types of brands that associated brands with casuals mainly because the soul crew were always in and around the city due to the fact that the big clubs frm england were playing vcup games and olay off finals at the millennium stadium, Cardiff soul crew were always dressed in stone island, and other top brands, thats why thay were mainly ideneterfied through there dress code, so the pubs and clubs stopped people from coming in to pubs and clubs on the suspicion that thay were hooligans from Cardiff or from clubs in england,,,

Being from London I think he was onto something, as my older brother was a skinhead before he started to wear Pringles and Farah's, I think it was my generation that probably really got into Sergio and Fila before giving most of labels up when house music took over, a few things survived like kickers. And Hip Hop would keep brands like Fila going in the 90s. But we all have our own memories and so it's not so black and white.

Shame we lost martin we tweeted each other 2 years before. His books are 'Proper'. I told him he was so wrong about clothing..he was going through the years of fighting at games, the 'Casual' was a thing on its own..the only thing he was ok on was adidas.. has this chat with him but slazenger, patrick etc was poor mans clothes / trainers..it's sad that martin was so wrong about so many stuff i'm 58 i'm cringing at some of the stuff he's talking about..raves you met lads from other firms and 1980 can't wear trainers etc, stone island is embarrassing to wear today. Still a loss.. but it started up north, liverpool. close by Arsenal etc..paypal and online shopping gave us the nu footie lads as many just liked the gear but not the football. Average casual / dresser is between 50 to 65 years old so try emulate or originate but dont tell us you bough a top CP jumper and that makes you a 'Top Boy' oh dear these podcasts are nostalgia for us old school but young ones are using as a learning lesson and trotting off for a slazengar lol if you know you know..but Chelsea the firm ee came across were wearing what we were wearing later the gabbicci, etc was changed to proper gear.

Lads always had a fashion fads, beatles, glam rock, bay city rollers, new romantics skinheads mods, rockers but the proper casual started in 1980. Pringle, fila, lacoste, Northerners lee jeans, Adidas, Southerners went Lois gabbicci, pierre cardin etc but spurs and arsenal quickly wore lacoste, ellesse, tachinni full tracksuits we laughed at then it went on burberry, aquascutum rl ysl etc but from 1980 puma, gola, patrick slazenger were seen as the poor man's trainers. Stone island cp is for tits same as anyone wearing burberry caps skinny jeans over 18, hasn't got a clue. it's a shame cos I'm still wearing the same stuff but re bought as 40 years on proper gear doesn't go out of style I'd rather wear a Marco Polo sweatshirt than stone island and the rave scene was loads of footie lads wearing decent clobber and chatting to an arsenal fan all night reminicing like you do in-between gurning next time you see him at a game you ain't gonna have a row with him at a game cos you know him as a geezer not just a gooner. Remember I'm female Martin knew his stuff but not the casual scene we had 4 shops in 1982, hurleys, Stuarts, harrods and your scouse mates who'd bring u back gear from rotterdam etc so it was hard. now it's Internet PayPal and sadly a lot of shops online selling retro gear to people that had a little run but never to be seen in again it was new clothes to us and selling rubbish like a Patrick kagoule for £65 and you wouldn't let your mum wear it to walk the dog. a Peter storm green kagoule was the top one 7 out of 10 scallies wore them I just got a new one £11 Millets. Sold 100s pairs of farahs to lads £65 rrp online casual shops. I got them £4 sports direct only got big sizes left there sent them up and down the country for £4 so see anyone wearing farahs and diadora blame me. I have to wear girlie shoes as trainers and farahs for girls no no sorry for rant I'm buzzing as the other day Bill G. Whufc answered a question that bugged me for 40 odd years #sorted

great times no matter what order thay were the
everlution of foot ball clothing styles,, not sure what bthis guy saw but it depends where you were from,, and what part of the country your from,, iff you were from the north you were influenced by northern soul, clothing,, down south thay were a bit more softer on the clothing thay were able to sauce,,, each city had a different dress scence, depending on the class you came from,, its has simple has that, the casual stories differ tottnham were supposed to the first proper casuals,, thay say the fist clubs from england who went to europ vear the cup games seen the Italians dressed in this golfing and tenis gear, then brought it back to england over time,, with the likes of Liverpool man u, totnham, and other big clubs following suit, uts has simple has that,,, .
