Just a note: it’s still only day one for me with this controller but I noticed the whole d-pad pushes down and can activate all the directions simultaneously? I’ll keep testing but I can see where this might be bothersome for certain games or certain characters
@NihongoGamer I have a question, about which controler you recommend for mario maker 2? I have been thinking on the mix box controler to play (with the wasd). What is your opinion?
You should try and get your hands on 8bitdo's Super Famicom styled pro controllers. I don't know why, but in my experience, the purple American SNES ones have heaps of accidental diagonals, but the Japanese styled ones don't, so I would say get the SF30 pro or SF30 pro+, trust me, it's all of the joy with none of the jank
Yup, plus it has so many customization options including macros, turbo, etc. with the program. This controller is definitely one that I'm looking at getting.
X Buster on R. Item select on L2 and R2 or L and X. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I dash jump so frequently (especially in X1) that hitting both with my thumb is absolutely necessary.
Yay! I'm so happy that you got a far better d-pad and a fight pad now. I remember I suggested you buy this one when you were unhappy with your pro controller. Happy gaming! Also you're right the mega drive controller never had shoulder buttons, but honestly this controller is far more Saturn than mega drive anyway
did you get your m30 ? could you please tell me how the d-pad feels like ? Would appreciate to know which d-pad has better accuracy, either the sn30, pro 2 or m30... I was thinking about this model as well for Sonic-like games, even Mania but I have had mostly bad experiences with 10 or less chinese controllers because specifically the d-pad has one problem or another. Either it's too stiff, have to press harder in order to get in-game response, OR "ghost input" when pressing down or right and so then I get diagonal input in-game. Thanks for sharing bud.
@@naam4769the dpad is floating so that would be a thing to get used to, but overall it would be a fine controller. The power a fightpad also has a floating dpad and is way cheaper (the switch edition is) and if you reall want a traditional one the hori fightpad is the way to go. Overall if it calls itself a fightapd for fighting games then it is going to have a good dpad
The M30 really shines when you use it in Tekken for motion characters. I'm a Mishima player & I couldn't does EWGFs or wavedash with the Dualshock 3 & 4. With the M30 I can actually do them now.
For Megaman X, I like using the shoulder button for dash, this solves the issue for holding a charge and jumping at the same time. Swapping weapons can be your 3rd button since you don't need to really press it that often.
1st thing on megaman X is to map dash to L1 just got the m30 and my god, best dpad i've experienced in my life, i used to believe the snes, ps2 and ps4 dpads were good, the bar just got higher, they are just okay now
I really liked the Dpad on this controller, I just also really disliked the face buttons. If they just made the SN30 Pro 2 with this dpad, that'd be the perfect controller for me.
In my opinion, I like dbuttons for fighting games. I never make any accidental inputs. I like this controller you reviewed too, although I switched to the new sn30pro that just got released. The one with the handles. I'm using that more than my pro controller
I've been using 8bitdo's GBros adaptor and an official controller from the SNES Mini, and it works like a dream for Mario Maker and Street Fighter. I'm interested in the M30 too, but I'd likely only use it for games I associated with the Mega Drive and Saturn. I never had the same preference for that d-pad over the NES and SNES one that many do, but I did grow up with the Mega Drive and I think it might be nice to play games like Sonic Mania with that controller.

Nihongo Gamer: I hate having so much stuff, I wish I could get rid of it all and just be free Also Nihongo Gamer: I bought a new controller, why do I keep buying so many controllers gg
The SN30 Pro+ is worth the price and worthy as a your permanent go to. I'm selling one of Nintendo Pro Controllers because of it. I have too many controllers lol
I've been using the SN and G Classic editions of the SN30 Pro + with Mortal Kombat 11 and the new Samurai Shodown. If you're going to play fighting games, I'd suggest the G Classic edition, its d-pad is less hard on your thumb, it actually feels kind of slippery. Certain characters in Mortal Kombat 11 have combo strings that require you to slide your thumb rapidly from one button to another (ex: Liu Kang's X, Y, X, Y), if you just press them regularly, the string isn't going to come out, it's definitely much easier to do on the G Classic because X and Y are convex. I did struggle with both d-pads when trying to perform super special moves consistently in the new Samurai Shodown, you have to be extremely precise with the inputs ( ➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️➡️ B + A) . The M30 still has the best d-pad and is the controller I'd recommend if you want to play fighters that have a lot of circle motion inputs like Samurai Shodown, The King Of Fighters and Guilty Gear.
The M30 really is a great controller for the most part.. however it has issues with 360 motions. I have 2 of these and If you main 'Gief or Hugo look elsewhere. The Hori Fighting commander has a much better dpad imho.
that dpad hurts my thumb in games with circle type motions so i wish i could have the hori button placement then the m30 pad, that would be the best controller ever!
When it comes to pads everyone is different, there isn't going to be a one all be all pad for all players. It's great there have been so many options coming out of late, 8bitdo, retrobit, powerA, Razer if you like overpaying, hori still doing it's thing. m30 is my preferred fightpad, but I have also found success with retrobits new usb saturn pads.
For fighting games that uses 6 buttons for attacks, I would hold the controller with my left hand and have my other hand press them like an arcade stick. For Mega Man X I would map the dash button to the left shoulder button and keep the buster and jump the same place as before.
As you see in in the other comments too, 8BitDo has a very great fanbase. I use the SN 30 pro Game Boy edition at my computer, it is my favorite controller there.
@Robin But it is less of a Super Nintendo controller! :) Really I woud have bought without the grips anyway, I usually play retro or retro-style games with that.

I looked up whether there was a more Dualshock-like controller for the Switch after posting my comment on your previous vid, and found out about the 8-Bit Do controllers. I was actually going to suggest the one that's more SNES-like as it also comes with two analog sticks laid out in a Dualschock-like manner. Now I think I'll suggest that by virtue of it having more standard face buttons. As far as I know it contains the same D-Pad, just the button layout will be different.
Have you tried purchasing the Titan One? It is a USB Plug in that works for recording macros, doing turbo, etc, but it also allows for PS4 / Xbox controllers to be plugged on other devices. I am currently using my Hori Gamepad for PS4 on my Switch and it works perfectly.

Great review. I'm curious about these and am considering to make my 90's style third person shooter support these to give it a maximum 90's feel. Could you perhaps review Retro Bit's new Saturn controller for Switch and PC?
It's a really good pad. It really shines in Tekken especially. The only down side is that the pad is a bit noisy but that can be fixed by loosening the screws in the dpad but that's optional.
I picked up Mario Maker 2 recently and I’m surprised you want a d-pad over 4 separate buttons. I wouldn’t want accidental diagonal inputs while platforming or creating.
did you manage to get any of these 8bitdo controllers ? I actually had several times this issue of diagonal input iin-game but with 10 or less dollars chinese controllers, almost my whole life. I would just want to know if may happen the same with those controllers here. My biggest concern is getting proper input from directional keys and if possible, getting share parts like the conductive rubber for d-pad in the future.
I have to say this was the video I was looking for! I am trying to improve my skills on smash bro and I feel like I can play better with a dpad. Thxs. I subbed.
I got the same Hori pad since a Pro Controller is very expensive, but man is it crap. The only issue I have with the Pro is that D-Pad issue of rolling up and down.
From my experience, 8bitdo dpads are subpar. The SF30 original and the SN30 Pro Gameboy version have pivots, but are not flush against the pcb. Meaning they will favor diagonal directions which is annoying. They aesthetically look like SNES dpads, but do not function the same. My recommendation: get a Magic NS adapter and use a PS4 controller.
Awesome! I always love those controller reviews videos You could try the snes 8bitdo controller! that could help since the layout of the face buttons are more what you're used to though i dont know if the d-pad there is as good as the one you got there Another one I've seen being recommended and that I ordered because I wanna try too is the Hori Pokken Pad! (the ones for wii u and for the the switch are basically the exact same) In the wii u it only worked with pokken, but on the switch it works with every game that doesnt need sticks or motion controls. I'm getting one because I heard the D-Pad is really good. It's wired though! I dunno, you could like it, and it's pretty cheap, like 20 bucks
I know you said you recommend this controller for people who play fighting games but from a person that plays on an Xbox Elite controller d-pad would this be a good replacement? I mainly play dragon ball fighterz.
Weird. Why is that? I’m trying it now too and yeah I can’t pull off any moves with zangief. Is it because the whole d-pad pushes down and presses all the directions at the same time?
@@NihongoGamer I'm willing to bet it might be that? I've actually had the most success with 'gief on Playstation pads of all things (and I'm a constant pad-user), and it might be because it doesn't do that whole 'pushes down at the same time' deal? It's just my tin-foil hat theory though
And to make things more interesting, the Pro Controller pad's actually performed the best for me overall; I can bust off almost all my moves pretty consistently, even 360s /confused face
I have zero issues with it on grapplers. I can do standing 720 motion supers with Hugo. This pad really shines with Mishimas in Tekken. It's a hell of a lot easier to pull of EWGFs & wavedashes.
Noooooo, this controler felt GREAT but after a couple days the dpad became kinda sticky (didnt come even close to any liquid). The kind of stickyness that you find on cheap controlers... I was very disapointed as 8bitdo controlers are usualy very well made.
I hated 8bitdo products since I bought NES30 Pro and SN30 Pro only to be thoroughly disappointed of their dpad quality. Precision input was simply impossible with them, I played STG and Tetris games and the gamepads were the worst ones to go with. I hear people saying M30 dpad is really improved since these ones, but recovering the lost faith would be not so easy.
You should try out the tape fix for all these controllers, as even the 8bitdo controller needs the tape d-pad fix on the controller touch points in order for the dpad to work as you'd like it to (i.e not very sensitive).
You should try the SN30 Pro +, I recently purchased one off amazon before they started to get rave reviews from all gaming UA-camrs and is now on back order for almost a month. It is such a well built and functioning controller that is great for fighting games but also all other types of games! I love it, highly recommend. You get a lot with it for just $49.99
Just a note: it’s still only day one for me with this controller but I noticed the whole d-pad pushes down and can activate all the directions simultaneously? I’ll keep testing but I can see where this might be bothersome for certain games or certain characters
Very unfortunate,Mr Stark
You need to try the snes30 pro from 8bitdo (the one like snes/sfc with two analogs and triggers+shoulders) is the best for platformers in 2d
@DewGetRekt The Magic NS lets you use it on the switch.
@NihongoGamer I have a question, about which controler you recommend for mario maker 2? I have been thinking on the mix box controler to play (with the wasd). What is your opinion?

You should try the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+. It’s basically a full-on Pro Controller replacement with an SNES-style D-Pad.
And especially compare the dpad with this m30 🤔 for fighting games and for platforms
Hell, it even has rumble and gyroscopes in the controller. For 50 dollars!
I've heard good things about the Pro +'s dpad. The models before this had pretty bad dpads though. Looking forward to trying the + out.
Yup, plus it has so many customization options including macros, turbo, etc. with the program. This controller is definitely one that I'm looking at getting.
Yes.
Shoulder buttons were on the Sega Saturn controller, which that 8bitdo pad more closely resembles.

Map dash to the L button. I know that it screws up the weapon select buttons, but mapping dash to L/ZL buttons makes a world of difference.
true. i do that too. but i use the R button

Yeah I’ll probably try the SNES ones too :) wasn’t convinced I’d like the dpad on the SNES ones but I’ve come this far, may as well try a few more!
@@NihongoGamer what was The problem with this m30?
It looked so good, charge and shoto characters can be played with him or not? Ty
do you know if this Hori Pokken Pad is still available somewhere ? i could not find it on amazon for PC. Thanks for the suggestion.
the button design for you so you can pivot while holding the buttons, if you can't manage that you must be crap
where did you purchase that t-shirt??? i need now
Why would you add a 'glass' sound to something made of plastic? That doesn't make sense.
I hope someday, a controller with vita quality dpad will come to existence. for now i am getting this.
The best nintendo switch controller is a Sega Saturn like controller, man the sega saturn was the best console for fighting games
I want that 8bitdo M30 Pro Controller
Ain't nothing better than that pro controller man
You should try the sn30 pro+ , would like to know what you think about it
I swear that imitates a Saturn controller
Can this work as a wired controller by connecting it with the wire?
Is there any lag on the control? Didn’t see you do that test on the fighting games. Also do you have to set it up every time you play?
Give a try the retro-bit sega saturn usb pad licensed by Sega, the later revisions supports switch if I'm not mistaken
Try the 8bitDo super nintendo looking controller that also has thumbsticks. Heard the most recent one was awesome.
I know you said you recommend this controller for people who play fighting games but from a person that plays on an Xbox Elite controller d-pad would this be a good replacement? I mainly play dragon ball fighterz.
You know we all buy these 8bitdo stuff for the aesthetics.
Well if it actually works, thats a good thing.
This pad is great for Shotos, but I find it's terrible for 360s for Zangief.
Weird. Why is that? I’m trying it now too and yeah I can’t pull off any moves with zangief. Is it because the whole d-pad pushes down and presses all the directions at the same time?
Gonna leave dot here cause I'm curious too
.
It's a hell of a lot easier to pull of EWGFs & wavedashes.
yo not only on the switch it works on pc as well as blue tooth. not only usb
Does it work on ps4/ps3 also?
Noooooo, this controler felt GREAT but after a couple days the dpad became kinda sticky (didnt come even close to any liquid). The kind of stickyness that you find on cheap controlers... I was very disapointed as 8bitdo controlers are usualy very well made.
Have you tried the snes30 by the same company? It looks really nice with the NES/SNES dpad
this one is to replicate sega genesis version, they have a saturn version
I hated 8bitdo products since I bought NES30 Pro and SN30 Pro only to be thoroughly disappointed of their dpad quality. Precision input was simply impossible with them, I played STG and Tetris games and the gamepads were the worst ones to go with.
I hear people saying M30 dpad is really improved since these ones, but recovering the lost faith would be not so easy.
I wonder if you can play Pokken with that controller?
You should try out the tape fix for all these controllers, as even the 8bitdo controller needs the tape d-pad fix on the controller touch points in order for the dpad to work as you'd like it to (i.e not very sensitive).
The SN30 Pro and SF30 Pro are soooo good! You should definitely try them out.
Ill let you know how the 8BitDo SN30Pro + is i have one coming in on Wednesday
You should try the SN30 Pro +, I recently purchased one off amazon before they started to get rave reviews from all gaming UA-camrs and is now on back order for almost a month. It is such a well built and functioning controller that is great for fighting games but also all other types of games! I love it, highly recommend. You get a lot with it for just $49.99
hello, would you still suggest this controller in 2023 ? Also, Pro + is the same as Pro 2 ?
Why does a guy with so many fightsticks need a controller for fighting games?
Best review. Thank you!
get the snes style 8bitdo pad its got a great dpad and better button layout
