  • "NATO has no choice but to defend Ukraine...if they want to limit this war within the borders of Ukraine."
NATO must end Putin's war in Ukraine or face nuclear war in Europe, says Yuri Felshtinsky, author of Blowing up Ukraine, the Return of Russian Terror.

months ago, after serious threats of nuking Ukraine, the US made quite clear that there would have been a serious retaliation on Russia. Now only imagine if and only if mafia boss Putin is going to nuke one NATO country. By the way NATO has no nuclear weapons, the states which own it would use them, not NATO itself. Hopefully mafia boss Putin and his mob won't activate the MAD hypotesis, noetheless Yuri Felshtinski is giving an unusual insight on how those gangsters think, quite scary.

Finland had to give up some of its land after WW2. So did Poland (although it gained some German territory in return). Even South Korea had to give up a small part of its land at the end of the Korean War (although it took more of North Korea’s land in return).
So there are historical precedents of countries that did nothing wrong and were attacked anyway having to accept border adjustments in return for peace.

The US is using NATO to drive a wedge between east and west, knowing that if Eurasia ever unites, the US's position in the unipolar world they created is lost. Allow me to explain:
As it is the petrodollar that funds the US military and it is demand for this fiat currency that determines its value, the US needs to have resources traded in dollars in order to maintain the military strength that is above and beyond what any nation not benefitting from their currency being the world reserve currency has. Enter the proposed BRICS gold backed currency (to be decided in august): This coin is a serious threat to US hegemony because of the reasons above and is the driving factor for the US to promote war in Ukraine (where most of the pipelines that transport primary energy from east to west which would eventually need to be paid for in the new currency are) and to blow up the nordstream pipeline. Obviously getting Russia to appear to be the bad guy plays into their plans as well, whereas it is actually the US trying to push NATO east despite having promised to leave Russia with buffer states that was cause for Russia to take action.

As a historian he has learned from the past and Western politicians should listen to him. Direct attacks into the border regions are necessary to degrade Russia's ability to operate in Ukraine. Attacks deeper into Russia, by either Ukrainian assets or Russian sympathisers, are helpful even if for no other reason than bringing the war home to the Russian people.

Everything Felshtinsky says made complete sense until, at the end of the interview, he says Putin would use nuclear weapons against Lithuania and Poland. If that were to happen, the response from Nato would be so devastating that Moscow would be destroyed and Putin would be the first casualty. So perhaps Feshtinsky needs to rethink his vision here. The more likely scenario is that Nato will allow Ukraine to use western weapons to attack strategic military targets inside Russia and Belarussia, such as air-fields, ammunition dumps, fuel depots, command & control centres, and that some of these targets would be in and around Moscow itself, just to bring it home to the ordinary citizens of Russia that Putin is a tyrant who is bringing death and destruction to his own country, including 200,000 Russian soldiers either killed or wounded so far. The Russian people need to wake up, smell the coffee and depose Putin and his brutal genocidal regime. They need to learn, like the Poles, that power lies in numbers of ordinary people, opposing the regime. Solidarnosc!

This is actually difficult to hear for two reasons: 1) the interviewee speaks so softly sometimes that it's almost impossible to understand him, and 2) the points of the interviewee reflect the insanity of the Russian government and Putin in particular; I think Putin is a dangerous, criminal psychopath. Belorus would be considered as nothing more than a launch platform in much the same way as a Russian submarine two hundred miles off the coast of a target nation. Neutralising it would not be as important as making a retaliatory response at Moscow once missiles had launched unless it was believed that there were more waiting to go.

Any use of tactical nuclear weapons would directly imperil Putin and his government, and he would quite literally be toast should he decide to go the strategic route. Hahahaha. I love the cope and cognitive dissonance involved in trying to concoct a lose lose situation for Putin.
If NATO was that sure they could easily beat Russia they would've installed a no fly zone long ago at the beginning of the war like Ukraine literally begged for and sent in NATO troops long time ago. The fact that this is existential for Russia and not NATO or the US gives the west pause, because Ukraine isn't necessary for the west's security but keeping Ukraine neutral is for Russia's.
You see Ukraine isn't the hill the US wants to die on....but for Russia it's existential since it's right on it's border, so all this braggadocio and pontificating is laughable. "Oh this will imperil Putin and that will imperil Putin so Putin loses either way" is just some bullsht people who can't stand that fact that despite all their efforts Russia is attriting Ukraine, say.
Russia would quicker nuke Ukraine than allow it to become a NATO member on Russian land, and if you think the US self preservation instinct is so low that it would risk its own destruction to avenge Ukraine, then you're dumber than Elensky.

No you are missing a big factor. The Kola Peninsula where pretty much all of Russia western pointing ICBM's are located are now bordered by NATO. This means a rapid surgical NATO strike force to pre-emptively take out all of those missile bases is far more feasible. You can bet NATO have been war-gaming such a scenario for many decades but Finland were always strictly neural. Putin has effectively checkmated himself. Finland joining NATO is the single biggest event in the security of Western Europe since WW2 ended.

( I agree) 2. Russia likely to launch nuclear strike from Belarus (so Belarus takes blame, else why move nukes there) Point 1 not so troubling since I think many folks likely agree. Point 2 very troublesome. Felshtinski suggests Russia may target Lithuania &/or Poland instead of Ukraine claiming an error and hope NATO caves. Not sure about that but Putin maybe crazy enough. I completely agree with the guest on his assessment of Putin's tactics and goals, but I think an opportunity was missed in this interview to ask him what exactly the West can do NOW to head off this danger. I imagine Prof. Felshtinsky would agree that this is the time for NATO to ask decisively and yes, make a BIG issue of Putin's plans to transfer nuclear weapons to Belarus, giving Putin a clear message that any such weapons transfer will be directly attacked by NATO assets on Belarus territory. This would also send a message to Belarus that if it accepts such weapons, it'll be in trouble IMMEDIATELY, rather than just being under threat if/when these weapons are used. Instead, the words coming out of the U.S. military is that they are not particularly worried about Putin's plans, because there are "no indications" Putin is actually planning to use the nukes. What?!!! First of all, if the U.S. military leaders actually believe this, they are fools. If Putin feels he is allowed to go there, he WILL, no doubt about it at all. And so, publicly downplaying the significance of the planned weapons transfers is actually telling Putin that the West has already accepted he is going to do it and is okay with it. That's all Putin needs to go ahead and take this next step, and then push even further. What Western leaders need to understand is that with Putin, there is no such thing as going "far enough." He wants it ALL and is only going to stop when we MAKE him stop. As Prof. Felshtinsky has righthly pointed out, what we are dealing with here is nothing less than a repeat of the Third Reich's attempt to get "lebensraum," and if we want to avoid another catastrophic World War, we have to nip the problem in the bud now, while Putin is still weak. Otherwise, within a few years he will, by going full-hog totalitarian, be able to kick Russian economy into war mode, fix the problems with his military and then undertake the conquest of Europe with a good hand of cards at his disposal. I only hope our leaders can remember the lessons of WW2 and don't make the same mistakes again.

Given the sanctions & isolation it is hard to see how Russia could hold out hoping support diminishes for Ukraine. Putin turned Russia into a gas & oil station and hasn't used the income to develop it's own industries - in fact the CCCP was better at that than current day Russia. Other members of the Russian Federation now sees this war as it's best way to get out from under Putin and develop their own economies rather than continuously bled by Moscow.
As to Ukraine just giving up land for peace, it is now impossible given all the damage done to Ukraine or to trust Russia will not start something up again especially given that Finland & Sweden have now joined NATO. Putin only wanted Ukraine as a buffer and a way to antagonize Europe. All of this puts NATO adjacent to Russia which is the least desired outcome by Putin.
He has lost Nord Stream, Oil is now price capped, thus he lost income to dig himself out. The west, and Federation members don't want him in the east either, and China will likely start to maneuver for the far-east portions as well. In short Putin has sealed his fate, it is just a matter of time before the populace & Oligarchs push back.
