Back in the 1970's at a gun show in Mississippi, I saw a guy with a table full of pre 1900 Smith's, Colts, Merwin and Hurberts, Remington's', etc. I don't remember any "Omnipotents", but his selection was awesome. I wish I'd bought a couple of Smith's (Scofield and Russian) as well as least one of the Merwin and Hurberts. I've never been a huge Colt Single Action fan. But I love their large frame New Service and their Detective Specials.
Tom Selleck uses the Colt 1878 Omnipotent in two movies. Quigley down under & High road to China. Both great movies... Turnbull did a Quigley 30th anniversary issue that is magnificent.
Plastic grips? Or hard rubber.
You are correct. Both factory letters list "Rubber" under the field "Type of Stocks."

@@MBCGRS Mr. Selleck's is in the same auction. I think you'll like it.
I wonder if this is the movie gun???
The Platypus of the revolver world.
Joel needs to be reminded that Sam Colt died in 1862 . So the London agents begging " him " for a double action model is total nonsense
