I make junk journals, so I bought the xtra specifically for fussy cutting. I use the Joy for cards and the Maker for fabric projects. I think each one has its place. I did think it was pretty cheesy for Cricut to NOT include a mat with the machine. I know they are trying to lead users toward the more expensive smart materials, but come on, that’s the least expensive item!
Have you figured out how to do fussy cuts like from digitkits because I have tried multiple times & can’t figure out how to accomplish anything more than cutting 1 square. Any help would be appreciated because I can’t find anything online explaining how to do it on the xtra. Thanks!
I’m in Australia and bought this machine. Ours comes with a starter bundle which includes the mat, two lots of vinyl ( this is separate to what you get in the other box. We have 2 boxes, the outer box and the inner box that has the joy extra) transfer tape and waterproof stickers and normal stickers
I have purchased several Cricut over the years. I gifted the maker and another Cricut to my daughter and niece. I am downsizing. The new Cricut Joy Xtra will work for me. What Inkjet printer do you use? Thank You
Isn't it funny how you start with one and end up with a few Cricuts. For my printer I have the Canon TS9521C. It's a crafters printer and can print 12x12 borderless. Which is great for scrapbooking paper.
Hi thank you for this review. I’m brand new to this snd trying to decide if I want the explore 3 or xtra. Space is a little bit of an issue. I do want to make vinyl on glass and primarily do cards, invitations snd stickers to sell. Would the 3 give me more versatility or are they very similar
They are very similar machines. The biggest difference is whether you want to cut 12 inches wide or if you are ok with only cutting 8.5 inches wide. If space is an issue I think the Xtra is a great choice. But honestly you can't go wrong with either. Are you in the market for a second machine? If you already have an Explore 3 and looking for another machine I would suggest the maker 3 then you would be able to cut different thicknesses. Unless you are looking for a more portable machine then the Xtra is great but very similar to the Explore 3 just smaller.
@@weekend-craft I passed on the maker because I knew I wouldn’t cut wood. But I’m curious if I have the explore 3, do I really NEED the new joy? I’d love to make stickers and couldn’t on the regular joy.
@@ashleym4233 I would make your stickers on the Explore 3! That machine can make stickers no problem. But hey if you want a new machine and its in your budget I do really like the Joy Xtra.

In Australia we got an extra bundle (at a cost of course) with our joy xtra and it had a mat, plus 2 different sticker packs.

Do I have to buy all new accessories for the Extra?
So it only uses a special mat?
U only have to use the mat that fits it…just like the joy has a mat and the bigger machines have a mat
If I have the explore 3, I’m guessing it’s a waste of money to get the new Joy?
