I offer my apologies for being late to the party, I was following a rabbit hole on YT and discovered Kane and his music. I also apologize for killing the buzz, but I'm an English Major geeking on the lyrics. English majors usually geek on the lyrics. Everyone is loving the beat and the music; so do I. However, I think the drum set should have lost the cymbals and stayed with a tamborine and worked more with the snare drum. The Tamporine beautifully mimics hissing and rattles better. CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE STORY IN THIS SONG. I don't mean the history of the song, but the story within the song. The imagery catches everyone's attention, but they aren't reacting to the 'story.' As an English Major, I'm looking for those sublties between the lines, the inferrences, and subtext. Two lines completely blow this song apart for me. 'when you are stung by the heart of a little child, that's how you get that rattle snake smile.' also 'Do I look like something you can put into a f*** cage.' Which of course, begs the question, how do you keep a snake inside a cage, when the snake could slitther through the bars. Yes, the lyrics are being metaphorical... or are they? That's the joy and complexity of poetry, change the meaning of one word, and it changes the entire meaning of the piece. Is this another Billy Jean sort of song? Micheal Jackson's lament that the Kid is not his son. Remove the line about the child, and the whole thing fits nicely into a Metaphor of man becoming jaded and cynical as he ages; including the threat of being 'trapped by a ball and chain' [to use the old venacular for marriage] inside a Cage. I'm dealing with a lot of pain from health problems and I'm doing anything I can for distraction. I now return you to your regularly scheduled music video.
Hi just to let you know I am doing a Hawaii five-0/Leverage xover story and have used this for those who don't know Eliot. I have put a link so they can put comments here.
