my iphone xr is by far the best phone i ever got, my android phones before felt more outdate right out the box than my xr feels after 6 years
Although three years ago, in 2021, the iPad Air 2, which was introduced in 2014, had iOS 8, but it itself received updates up to iPad iOS 15.
If we want to future proof the next iphone we buy if we plan on keeping it for a long time, should we then opt for the plus and max models since they have bigger batteries so it’s gonna take longer time for the battery to be really bad?

@@jocklazer4 Probably the iPhone XR will also arrive at iOS 19, and then be decommissioned in 2026 with the arrival of iOS 20 along with the iPhone 11... The iPhone 12 could even get to iOS 22 and then stop along with the “basic” iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 with iOS 23! Moral of the story, we could really get to 9-10 years of support!

@@rositagiordano1795 Honestly i think this is the last major update for the XR, many XR user's today face a problem with their battery incl mine, And im sure apple know's this as well, so maybe a couple of minor updates and the XR will finally come to a rest.

In 2027, all phones in the EU are required to have user replaceable batteries, hence, you won't even have to replace your battery through Apple anymore, you can do it yourself.

Apple should allow to downgrade. You can try the new ios but if its to laggy or battery draining you can go back.

Xr owner here, its laggy, the battery struggles to keep up, and if paired with an apple watch, siri is super responsive, but thats the only benefit, and that the battery drains excessively fast (currently charging my Xr for the second time today and its noon)
Obviously the beta not gonna be good in a old ass iPhone running a old chip
I believe a battery replacement would make it feel fluid again, but it’s an old phone anyway so might as well upgrade

I had the same issue, I reset the phone to factory and got a new battery and haven’t had an issue since, feels super snappy and responsive.
I’ve just bought a used iPhone XR for 30€ and I think it’s smooth but the charging speed is much slower than on my Xiaomi that broke and the battery is equally bad except in standby there it’s way better than the Xiaomi (it was a xiaomi mi 11 and it broke over night while charging I and could boot anymore)

No updates on XR
I do think the game mode can be a solution for phone like XR only has 3GB of RAM(not ROM). Hopefully it will solve my problem. However, AI is a good new feature but no rush to use it for daily life so my next upgrade maybe target to iPhone 14 instead of 16 for I still don't want to upgrade to type C phone yet.
I have an iPhone Xr It might be time for me to finally upgrade. My battery won't last, I gotta charge my phone at least two times a day and it lags a lot. I feel like iOS 18 will only accelerate old iPhone's death lol. So yeah I think it's time to upgrade

I actually like the iOS 18 on my iPhone XR. It is pretty solid at the moment when it comes to beat us by position might be a little bit faster similar to iOS 17 either way I like it.
No problems with battery? What feature is your favorite? Personally, I’m interested in new control center experience and very much want customizable buttons on lock screens. But I want to wait until 2025 to update to make sure it’s stable.
@@pvkom26 well in public beta three at The had an issue but now a public beta four is doing a lot fine which is surprising.
and I suppose the only feature I can only say I do like a little bit is a new feature in Wi-Fi if you go to Wi-Fi settings click on edit or click on the network you are connected to. There’s a new option that says Wi-Fi. I forgot what it was but I need to take a look at the settings again before I could say something.
Not to mention each setting you click on at least some of them they change the entire setting app. The list is completely different compared to the iOS 17 and older and put a lot of Worthing in it. and they.
have the same voices for VoiceOver and the router options which means if you click on add loader voice you can actually pick the same ones over and over and you can add more quite similar to the old-fashioned way of VoiceOver but this time you can add more voices and this time they even added the voice tutorial instead of the practice so if you are interested of using VoiceOver a few times then tutorial is kind of perfect for you. but I actually don’t not like the new changes that make on VoiceOver when you click on accessibility click on VoiceOver click on speech you can see that the page is completely different. Are you running? iOS 17 once you upgrade you will see what I mean and the voice page, well the page for the VoiceOver for the voices. It looks similar to iOS 15 so I suppose I do like it and he’s the funny part they got two new voices that I heard it supposed to be coming with iOS 16 but it didn’t that is the regular default Nikki and the premium of Zoe.
But yeah, those are pretty much the things that I like so far or do they have a new animation for Messages? Just click on text animations they could pick which one you want so when iOS18 comes around, you could take a look at those features
@@pvkom26 me and my friend both use an XR (im on 17), he states that his XR has DRAMASTICALLY changed on his battery on the Ios 18 update, So as of now dont update your XR to the latest, and you make a goodpoint wait until 2025 or atleast a couple of months until its stable
@@pvkom26 me and my friend have the XR (im on 17.5), he said that when he updated to ios 18 it drained his battery ALOT faster than when he was in 17 and games became more stuttery, so its like your sacrificing your screen time for "new" and "almost" same features as before, so i agree wait until its stable

iPhone 6S, plus and maybe SE(1st) had 7 years. I just did an update on it a couple months ago. Still not laggy(at home).

It was nice to see iPhone XR running iOS 18 so smoothly. I’m not going to update mine this fall - last year’s iOS 17 was disastrous on my phone causing serious issues with camera, to the point where I couldn’t take pictures with it for the first couple updates. Given that I don’t want to get a new phone for at least another year, I better play it safe and stay on the last stable iOS 17 release they put out until at least iPhone SE 2025 comes out.
The thing with the phones right now, they are all racing to deliver the AI features. iPhone 15 and earlier is pretty much useless in that regard. iPhone 15 Pro is undercut by iPhone 16 series, which are rumoured to be released with 8Gb each, and are in turn undercut by iPhone SE 2025 releasing with the same 8Gb and a very attractive price few months later. And iPhone 17 is rumoured to bump RAM to 12 Gb on Pro models. Google is quite advanced in the area, and constant bugs on iOS do sometimes make me think of moving back to Android. While Pixel 9 presentation was underwhelming (most of AI stuff is quite useless, albeit impressive), it does show how quickly things are changing in smartphone world today. Pixel 9 Pro is 3x faster at AI performance than 8Pro, which was released less than a year ago.
So yeah, it’s great to see phones lasting for 7 years now, I believe that right now is not the best time to get a new one. Next year will provide more options to choose from and, in case with Apple specifically, finally deliver a proper look at Apple Intelligence.
@@pvkom26 true I did saw multiple problems on my 10 as well when I was 17 and then everything got fixed over time but iOS 17.4 and now be of 18 and is not so bad but like you said do what’s best for you and your phone, but do you have a guest that the last iOS 17 Support update might be 17.7.2? and like you said, I might consider what your back because this thing is way too much. so I might switch back to android one day.
@@david_bopit_music11it’s hard to predict the numbers of the last iOS 17 update. Because all iPhones that are running on iOS 17 get access to iOS 18, it may very well be that iOS 17.7 won’t come out.
But I think it probably will. Apple knows that there will be bugs at launch and many people won’t update to iOS 18 right away.
But in any case - no new features for iOS17 for sure. Whatever else this version of the OS will get will be small bug fixes and security improvements.
@@pvkom26 trail all these features are officially finished so far I’m testing iOS 18.0 on my iPhone XR and testing iPadOS 18.0 on my iPad seventh generation luckily I have a couple backups of the iPad seven when I was 17.6.1 so I can keep my backup devices running iOS 17 for a while until they fix the speed issue of VoiceOver scrolling because I was 18 is kinda laggy but it’s still pretty stable

Most of the features that it doesn’t support are stuff most people would never need or care about. It also runs really well...hopefully it gets iOS 19 and they don’t drop it early like they did the X.
