My son and his wife upgrade their Iphones every few years. They send my wife and I the older phones. We have been using the hand me down Iphone XRs for several years. They still work great and the battery shows 84%. This year my son ordered two iPhone 16s. We will be getting both their hand me down iPhone 12 pro max's . Awesome 😀 At 70, we no use for the latest, greatest phones. My son is so wonderful.
Two of my cousins still use a XR today, been using a XR as well last year I can say its still a good phone, just replace the battery and it’ll still do the job fine.
@@UpwardOpossum9 well the reason that I let it go cuz I found a great deal on a used 12 pro max, but for me honestly xr/xs/xs max can still and will still be very usable even to this day.
Got my XR in 2019.I put a new battery in it 2022, currently battery health is at 88%. I can go a whole day without charging. No plans on upgrading. Great review.
My XR which I got in December 2019 was actually going strong and didn’t have any issues until around April-May this year. After that, it aged like milk. I upgraded to 15 plus last week but I had a good run with the XR, almost 5 years. And I’m still keeping it as a back up device
This was my 'during lockdown pointlessly scrolling Tik Tok, MS Teams and Zoom call' phone. Had it from launch in 2018 till the lighting port failed in 2021, upgraded to an iPhone 12 at that point. I loved both phones!
@@esslimaniwushufit5497 still a very good option for those on a budget. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely not the worst cellphone camera out there to date.
Used an XR up until a few months ago. It worked well, tho nearing the end it had some freezing issues. It was a good phone, but god was it heavy for what it was. The weight along with the freezing issues made my dread using my phone, so I upgraded.
I see iPhone 8 as the first standard-tier iPhone. It was released alongside premium model, iPhone X, and set precedent for two distinct iPhones releasing every year. This is set to change with next year though, as there will be another iPhone 17 besides base and Pro models.
I’m still on my iPhone XR and it has 79% of its original battery life. This is possible, but I do need to keep an eye on charge when I upgrade. It’s probably going to be because of the memory. If I use the browser a bit or too many apps, the phone slows to crawl. The iPhone 16 seems pretty underwhelming to me, but it has a lot more ram. I might end up buying it.
I wouldn't recommend. Apple Intelligence will be in beta for another year or so - and it rolls out veeery slowly, making iPhone 17 a better entry point for the next generation of Apple experience. By then it will improve, new features will be added, and maybe even new AI models will be connected (Gemini is reportedly in talks). iPhone 17 is rumored to have 120Hz screen, which is s significant upgrade. There are also rumors about improved front camera. There was some talk about more RAM but then one guy, who supposedly has a good reputation for leaks, said the RAM will stay the same... but I feel like it could go higher maybe - depends on what they're working on when it comes to AI. It's all so new at this point, better wait and see how their phones will look like after these features are rolled out and tested by the consumers.
OK, Comment #2: I just searched for first reports about increased RAM in iPhone 16 - and it's January 2024, unless I missed something. That's quite possible - I've been following leaks and rumors for iPhone 16, and there were info of test models with slightly different designs for Camera Control as late as this spring. I'm sure they are working hard on 17 series, but some things are not going to be finalized until much later. If Apple Intelligence will be struggling with some features, either announced or the ones theyre planning, we might see RAM increase. But, of course, I'm not an expert. If you do decide to go with 16, that's not a bad phone by any means. Its good they once again gave base model their newest processor.
To be honest, if you’re just using your phone for basic things like facetime or texting and a little bit of social media, you don’t really need the newest version of iPhones. I use my xr mainly for watching youtube and messaging people. I’m not active on social media but if I do post sometimes, the photo quality is still good especially in good lightings. What I noticed is that, the battery is getting more cooked (but still good for a 6 year old phone). Nonetheless, as a student whose priority is to study, phones like XR is better so that I can minimize my phone usage. But still, a good upgrade will give you better quality ig.
I loved the XR. Unfortunately I had to upgrade because every time I had to update or force shut down, the phone would turn off and not come back on for at least a day. So had to get rid of it unfortunately.
What sad is that outside of the 15 pros not one single iPhone will be receiving apple intelligence which for the most part makes the majority of them a paperweight and will definitely affect resale value.
AI is very overrated and only those tech nerds will use them. For everyday people like the most of us, having access to decent camera, messaging and banking apps only matter. But yeah agree, it is greedy for apple to not support at least the pro phones with 6gb ram.
I just retired my XS Max, which is the same/year generation as the XR. I bought a 16 Pro Max. I got the XS Max new, when it was first released, so I've been using it for 6 years. Because it isn’t actually, especially since the iPhones already have 120hz touch sample refresh rate, so its just as fast as a 120hz phone in terms of scrolling, just not smooth frames, which most people don’t even care about
