    As a potential buyer of this car, thank you for an excellent and in depth review. I've watched literally every UA-cam and other video review of the 2015 A3 and this one is by far the most in depth (especially with the separate MMI video), well rounded and accurate. I would have liked to have seen additional footage at dusk or evening showing off the LED optional front lights and included rear to understand that styling more, but otherwise outstanding. This car is definitely at the top of my list now.

    Love your reviews. I've seen a bunch of A3 reviews but none mention the fact that the A3 engine is mounted differently than the A4. I find this quite interesting and never gave it thought until you mentioned it. Great facts and fresh perspective. I love learning things. Keep up the great reviews

    Best review of an 2015 Audi A3 I have seen on UA-cam. Looking at getting one of these used, watched a ton of videos on it, this was by far the most in-depth impressive review out there.

    The appeal of this new A3 sedan is pulling me in every time I see it. It's a little out of my price range, but man, I love the whole package. I was thinking of a BMW 320i if I can get my finances in check.
    Thanks for sharing your expertise and thoughts on this elegant car. You always produce the best films by far, Alex. 📹

    I'd like to point out that in the US the 2015 A3 the 2015 Jetta did not share the same platform. The A3 is based on the MQB platform like the Mk7 Golf/GTI . The Jetta didn't make the switch to the MQB platform until the 2019 model year. A3s were also sold without the S line trim in the US. I have a very early sales date A3 that did not have the S line package.

I started with the goal of a BS in electrical engineering and my last major choice was business administration. Go figure.

    How would you say this compares with an A4? The pricing isn't too far off if you sacrifice a few features, and loaded year old CPO cars are the same price as a well equipped new A3.

  • @TheHigherSpace

    I love this guy :) probably the best car reviews in youtube ,,,
    still torn between the cla and the a3 though .................. bur leaning more towards the cla ..

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +2

      That is a tough choice, I lean towards the A3 because I value rear seat room and the CLA's back seats are so small that it makes me wish the CLA was a 2-door coupe instead.

    • @TheHigherSpace
      @TheHigherSpace 10 років тому

      Alex on Autos Thanks for the reply .. I actually don't care that much about rear seats, so that's not something that I include in the pros and cons. Instead, I really need a comfortable enough cargo capacity, and the a3 is not the best. The other important thing is the looks of the two cars .. I'm 27, and the audi seems more conservative, which may be a good idea later on ! And even later on, when I'll be thinking about something conservative like the audi, and thinking about rear seats, the a3 is not the best in that area, I'll be more inclined to buy an a4 then ...
      Again, keep up the good work, you have a great channel here, very informative in depth reviews, which is what the audience in this niche is looking for .. Congrats

    Hey Alex, great review as always. I know I'm probably just nitpicking, and pardon if I missed it, but I would love to hear the "thunking" sounds of the doors closing. Maybe even include the closing of the glove box since we know how plasticy those might sound even on luxury cars. I know you included the sound of the trunk closing during the trunk comfort portion.

    Hello Alex,
    Quick question. Do you remember if you could actually press down on the button blanks on the center of the dash or where they fixed? I have not received my car yet (ordered), but I was trying to see if I might be able to use one of the blanks to add homelink. Thanks!

  • @tuolumne9
    @tuolumne9 10 років тому +1

    Alex, while it is true that the next Jetta and Passat (both North American and European) will ride on the MQB platform that underpins the new A3, the current only VW product that shares MQB is the new Golf. The current Jetta is PQ35 and the American Passat is a stretched PQ36

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +5

      The most important thing to know is that these videos live on UA-cam forever so you have to look forward. If you don't you end up getting comments later saying "it's the same as X but you didn't say anything". The second thing is that the MQB platform shares design elements and even some parts with the PQ platforms. Platform sharing is such a loose term and the VW/Audi families are perfect examples of design and parts sharing between cars that are really quite different from one another. Last week's Lexus CT is another because that platform is shared with both the Prius and Sienna as far as Toyota is concerned but those three vehicles are quite different.

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 10 років тому

      All you say is irrelevant. Because if this car would have been an Acura, you would not even care one bit of those details. For you it would be a rebadged Honda. And this POS is a rebadged Golf. Get over it.

    Hi Alex,
    Love your reviews. Very informative. Question for you: Would you prefer the A3 over the Buick Regal?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому +3

      Spectre2300 Interesting question, I'd take the A3 over the Regal and propose the Buick Verano as an alternative option as well. I just didn't find the interior or driving dynamics of the Regal to be worth the bump over the Verano and the Verano is a really good deal right now.

    So how close do the near-luxury 2.5l Mazda3 or the 2.4l ILX come to the A2 in terms of driving dynamics and creature comforts if you don't factor in the 4wd? Neither seems as good in terms of interior design and materials, that's a given, but both of the less expensive cars seem to offer compelling value choices against the 1.8l A3?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому

      Well, I suppose you could compare the Mazda3 but it comes in lower than the A3 in basically every area other than value.

    I've got a 2012 Autobahn GTI, next step is an A3. Has to be a hatchback. I know they are coming out with the "sportback" A3 TDI next year, and i'm going to buy one in a year or two; however, I'd rather have the 2.0 gas engine in the hatchback. Alex, do you know if Audi USA has possible plans to offer the 2.0 gas in the hatchback?

    Hi Alex,
    I ordered the exact model (prestige) you had in your video only in white. I was wondering if you would be willing to comment on the full led headlights. I have been unable to find a single written or video review on them. I am assuming based on the lack of interest they are no better than the HID ones. Any information you have would be appreciated. As always great video!

      The only real advantage over the HID lamps is the longevity, the LEDs should last longer. The color is also a little whiter than HIDs.

      I always test the car on the highway but filming on the highway can be a pain and I find it more distracting than on quiet roads. The MPG figures I discuss in the drive section are always my real-world numbers based on 600-800 miles of driving and the number is also found in the end credits. I hope that helps :)

    Alex, sounds like if it was your money you'd get the A3 over the S60, despite your sweet spot for Swedish sporty sedans. Can you extrapolate to the V60 T5 Drive-E vs A3 Sportback TDI?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +6

      Hard to say without driving them both, the V60 is going to be the better value overall but the A3 handles superbly and the electronics packages are more modern.

    Could you feel the Haldex Quattro system engaging and disengaging? (That is the common criticism of Haldex)
    Also, how did you find ingress/egress of driver seat given the location of the b-pillar?
    Any jerkiness in DSG shifting?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +4

      The latest Haldex systems work more smoothly than in the past. This generation system is almost always sending some power to the rear which makes things smoother. The B-pillar location can always be a problem in small cars but it was less of an issue in the A3 than the CLA.VW/Audi has improved the DSG. It will of course never be as smooth as a traditional automatic but it is smoother than the Mercedes dual-clutch.

    Two Qs.
    1) That "blank" switch (?) that mirrors the parking switch, is it really just a blank?
    2) those slots in front of that blank switch, are they intended for things like paid parking slips?
    BTW: I ended up buying a 2014 Prius 5 Hatchback (Not the "V-Wagon"). I went into the buying market looking at that BMW 3series GT and exited with the Prius; lol go figure. Love the LED low-beams. LKA is nice but lacks. The dynamic Cruise Control is great but also lacks.
    Anyway - if I can give back by answering some questions you might have about my personal experience, just send them my way.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +4

      Yes it is a button blank. I'm not sure if there is currently a feature that would occupy it so it may be for future use. The sots were sizes for coins, I assume it is so you could keep a pair of quarters around but that's just my guess. I didn't see any mention of them in the owners guide.

    Great as usual. VW has economies of scale with their platforms so they can afford to undercut all the other German competition. Psychologically I'd feel cheated paying $40k for a Jetta.

    • @tuolumne9
      @tuolumne9 10 років тому +1

      Quite a stretch to say that...and you know it. FYI, jetta is based on old pq35, this is new MQB.

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 10 років тому

      You are absolutely right on that this is a rebadged Golf. If you don't want to pay $7000 for an Acura ILX with the claim that it is a rebadged Honda Civic, why would you by a rebadged VW Golf/Jetta by paying for 15K more.

    • @Fussinated
      @Fussinated 10 років тому

      n777ua
      There is no stretch. It is still a rebadged VW. A Golf GTi platform but in the future there will more to be shared with other VW cars. This is just like bad mouthing Acura ILX by saying that it shares the platform with Honda Civic Si, and it is a rebadged Honda.
      You Euro lovers consider that some day you will find yourselves in the same situation and you will face the same arguments against yourselves. Just like Calling Lexus LFA an overpriced super car, That car holds the fastest car record at Nurburgring with street tires. So now, for any Italian or German super car not to be overpriced, it should be faster than LFA at Nurburgring with street tires and should be cheaper than LFA as well. So your fancy Porsche 918's or Ferrari LaFerrari's etc. are all overpriced cars due your own criteria.
      Similarly this car is no more than a rebadged VW. Get over it.

      John The A3 feels more premium without question, but the ILX is a much better value, handles almost as well and gets a few more tech goodies than the A3.

    How does A3 2.0T compare to X1 28i/35i?
    Handling-wise?
    Acceleration-wise?
    NVH / build quality-wise?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +1

      Handling the BMW wins easily due to a better weight balance and a RWD dynamic. Acceleration is also better due to more power in both the 228 and the 235. The 2-Series is quite a different beast than the A3 of course since it is a 2-door coupe. I would call NVH and build quality equal.

    I don't understand why they don't offer a 6 speed manual gear box I would understand it on a Audi A8.

    Make sure you get the recall fix.... or you can lose power while you are on the freeway going 75 and it can catch on fire.

    Mainstream buyers don't like to take risks so this looks great but a one or two year old S4 / 3.0t engine with chip - Chris Harris got his to be as quick as an RS4. 0-60 in something like 4.1 seconds! Wow.

    I dont think this would compete with the tlx or s60. it would compete with and ilx or lexus ct instead

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому +1

      The S60 is competition largely because it is the budget Volvo and the S40/V30 is no longer sold in the USA. The ILX is considerably cheaper than the A3 while the average transaction price on the A3 is expected to be about the same as the average transaction price on the A3.

    Seeems like the car has same legroom interior room and boot space as of a Ford Focus sedan, infact it seems like an Audi version of Ford Focus

    This is NOT a TLX competitor.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 років тому

      The TL has been identified as a frequent cros-shop so logically the TLX will be as well.

    I really liked the car from outside and the driving experience was fantastic, however the dashboard is really poorly laid out and the rear-view mirror is a joke.
