North York Moors - Coastal Walk and Cliff Top Wild Camp
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лис 2024
- In this video we walk a section of the Cleveland Way from Robin Hood's Bay towards Scarborough. We followed the trail along the stunning North Yorkshire coastline before camping for the night overlooking the sea. We witnessed a spectacular sunrise before making our way back to the car at Cloughton.

All music by Dean Read. Footage shot with a Canon 7D with a 17-40mm lens, a Canon 550D with a 55-250mm Lens, a DJI Phantom 4, an iPhone 6 Plus and it was edited in iMovie.
A nice overnight camp Dean. Good to see you out walking and camping again.
The pronunciation of Yorkshire place names is frought with difficulties, you can only give it your best shot.
All the best,
Al
+bitteryjuck I'm used to a Clough up on the moors in Derbyshire which is pronounced cluff :-) I just say what I see haha
+Knucker thanks for watching Al, I'm used to the Cloughs up on the moors in the Peaks which are pronounced Cluff so I just went with it :-) ATB
What a wonderful place to wake up in ,beautiful
The Yorkshire coastline is stunning. I went back in 2019 and walked the Cleveland Way which passes this spot where we camped, I'd highly recommend that route
Often emulated, never surpassed. Great video.
+Hardy Tempest There seems to be a few emulators out there at the moment, one of the reasons I've fallen out of love with social media.... I have to keep upping my game to stay one step ahead :-) Thanks for watching
What a magical and heavenly place to camp overnight, thank you so much for sharing your footage, Paul.
Fantastic nice to see you back dean ⛺️👍🇬🇧
+Shane Lewis Thanks for watching Shane :-)
Good to see that your back dean missed your walking videos
+tr1cky16 Thanks for watching, I've been otherwise engaged over the last few months so videos have taken a back seat due to family life. Hopefully I'll be out again more regularly soon. Thanks for watching

Great video Dean. Loved the drone shots and your campsite was stellar. J.
Thanks for watching Julie. This was a great little trip. One of the reasons why I'm doing the Cleveland Way at the moment. Passed this point yesterday and only have about 10 miles to go till the finish line.
Beautiful video-it presents the sea and the cliffs around it really well.

Please don't stop making them mate after all your hard work! You've made me love going to the peaks. Even took my wk old baby up mam tor at the wknd. (Obviously from the car park next to it) but he was up there all the same. James.
+randyknighty I'll never stop making the videos, I love it and they are my memories of great times spent with friends and family. I'm cutting ties with certain things and people online but could never loose my love of making videos and music. Thanks for watching mate :-)
Hi Dean , hope you and family all good, just wanted to echo the sentiments here - we love these vlogs just pure vibrant , quality insights into stunning places and your efforts are genuinely appreciated by the community here , hope you can return to the posting as living in Thailand these are a true pleasure to see and remember locations and whet the appetite for new ventures . Wishing you all the very best obviously we all understand the pressures and can imagine these must take tremendous time but they truely are a magnificent legacy and we love following your footsteps .
What can I say... thank you!! Just responded to your comment on my latest video and they really have made me smile. Comments like these really do spur me on to make more videos, I do it for the memories but the fact that people watch and enjoy really does mean a lot. Thank you, Dean
Thoroughly enjoyed this mate, more or less done the same walk a few year back, keep them coming 👌🏽
+anthony mcdougall thanks for watching Anthony, I'd been wanting to do this walk for some time so I'm glad we got around to it. Those cliffs are stunning :-) ATB Dean
Another great video Dean, nice job of editing with the various scene changes to the music track at the beginning and the little time lapse sequence at 11:34. Thanks again for sharing these great walks with us.
+David Earl Thanks for watching David, I really enjoyed this one and was spoiled for choice as there was so many great views to film :-) ATB
Nice one Dean, yet to have a go at a coastal camp so maybe this year...nice opening with the drone shot of robin hoods bay & looks a lovely walk along there.Don't think you could have planned a better spot to pitch up really,it looked a cracking spot that & that morning sky..well it's part of what it's all about aint it.Hope your'e doing well mate & don't let the negative stuff get you down.tfs mate & take care.Andy.
+Andrew Beavers Hi Andy, I'm still having my love hate relationship with the internet but prioritising family life over videos at moment. Daughter has almost finished her GCSE exams so we'll be out getting her fit and ready on some adventures as she is joining the army. Thanks for watching mate, ATB
Great video Dean. I find that if i'm away for a week or two I have to cherry pick my watch list. Your videos and Jay's are must. I hope that your daughter does well in her GCSEs'.
+Philip Nicolson thanks for watching and thank you for the well wishes Philip. If I'm honest I've struggled to get back into watching videos since I was away in Tasmania last year, that week off the internet was liberating but it has meant I'm no longer as interested in watching... just creating. ATB Dean
Top video as usual Dean. ATB
Thanks for watching Paul. ATB

Just discovered your channel, love it, it’s really inspiring & motivating.
Thanks for watching Kathryn and thank you for your kind words
Nice film lads - thanks.
Hey Dean great video as usual. I have been watching your videos for long time. You have inspired me over the years to get out and have fun in nature and I'm thankful for that. I opened my channel and started to upload videos because I was inspired by you. Maybe one day I'll be as good as you are. Keep up the awesome job! From NY
+Irving Von Luxembourg Hi Irving, thank you for your kind words and for watching. Really glad that my videos have helped in some way and it makes it all feel worth while when I get feedback like this. Thank you. Dean
Great video Dean you do them well! Almost a form of escapism watching them as you bring the viewer into the walk with your enthusiasm.....keep doing them. That looked like a cracking spot, funny sometimes the best spots turn up just when you think you are out of time. All the best Dan
+Daniel mcneilage Thanks for watching Dan and thanks for your kind words. I'm been going through a love / hate relationship with the internet at the moment and your comment has brightened up my day. Much appreciated mate
Hi dean good to see you back mate were ya bin you have been missed Very enjoyable that dean nice one It was also good to see you out with no vids ray lol bless him take care dean atvb to you chris
+Christopher Smith Thanks for watching Chris. Family life has been mega busy as has to take priority over adventures as you can imagine. Hopefully I'll have a more time to get out again soon once my daughter has finished her exams :-) ATB
The Cleveland Way, did the Saltburn to Filey section last year. Fond memories, thanks.
+David Gaines Thanks for watching David, would love to do the Cleveland Way myself. Might have to drag the mrs and my daughter along too. ATB
Finished the walk 3 weeks ago did the Helmsley to Saltburn part. Did it in three days which is probably a bit too much, I felt it! Got a wild camp in at Captain Cooks monument though, superb views of the the Vale of Mowbray all the way across to the Yorkshire Dales. Worth a look
+David Gaines Excellent David, haven't visited Captain Cooks Monumet but could see it from Roseberry Topping when I climbed that.
Great video beautiful views
Thanks for watching Louis, The Yorkshire Coast is stunning
'Cluffton" :-) - You can take the boy out of Derbyshiure but you can't take Derbyshire out of the boy !! Nice video Dean.
Haha :-) I pronounced it exactly the same way as I would Grindsbrook Clough (cluff) on Kinder Scout. The English language is so flipping complicated. Thanks for watching Paul.
Thanks again Dean. Time however you came to the Wolds Way starting at the Humber Estuary. Lovely countryside and always on one's own. End up in Filey. Ted
Hi dean ..you never fail to produce interesting content mate and it's good to see you and ray out having fun .. with Casey/ Ben giving up UA-cam I was worried you'd be coming to an end too!
End of the day, do what's right for you but glad you still enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching them ..All the best 👍
+jamie shuttleworth hi Jamie thanks for watching mate. Yeah I think when Casey stopped the vlog back in November that was a catalyst that made me less interested in watching videos, I still love making them but when Casey stopped something was missing. Thankfully he is back now though :-) I just need to find time to get out as family life is very busy at the moment as my daughter is doing her gcse exams, we are getting her fitness levels up to join the army in September too hopefully. Hope you're well mate, ATB Dean
Great video Dean, keep em coming! Your videos inspired me to complete the Hadrian's Wall walk in May along with my daughter, and I'm now hooked on walking. Always nice to watch and get some new ideas, great stuff!
+David McCalmont Excellent David, hope you had great weather and enjoyed the Hadrian's Wall path. I'd love to walk it again myself and take my daughter along too :-) thanks for watching the videos, all the best. Dean
Dean Read Thanks, we had astonishing weather from Day 1 onwards. Daughter ended up with a badly sunburnt ear lol! We did it Wallsend to Bowness and the wind was at our backs all the time! I'd like to do it again, but not for a few years - lots more walks to squeeze in!
+David McCalmont Very true, lots of greats walks to choose from. We were pretty lucky with the weather too and got amazing conditions for the bit in the middle of the walk :-)
Hi Dean, superb video as ever mate! I don't have much faith sometimes in people. Some real sad bastards out there! But sod them, keep doing what you love and don't forget, us 7618 followers will always be watching! Cheers ATB JD
+JD Out and About Thanks for watching JD and thanks for your kind words. I love making the videos so I won't stop doing that as they are my memories that I cherish. I have withdrawn from social media a bit due to a few individuals but other than that all is good. ATB
Excellent video as always Deano, awesome drone shot at the start mate. Looked a great walk and perfect spot to bivvy! : )
Wicked time lapse in the morning too dude... loved it.
See ya.... in a minute haha : )
+GoonieBushcraft Thanks for watching Jables, we need another adventure like this very soon :-) see you in a minute
I am the last person on the planet - or so I thought - to get wrapped up in social media but it slowly gets a hold on you, Excellent footage as always - ATB
+Flat Broke Frank It certainly does, I'm still having my love hate relationship so it's taken me a long while to get around to comment responses. There are many factors involved but I'm attempting to realign my online priorities. Thanks for watching Frank. ATB
Great vid m8 I've walked that way a number of times amazing coastline subed ya bud atb
Thanks for watching Ivan, it's a spectacular piece of coastline. Thanks for subbing. Dean
Top video Dean as always! It's a lovely part of the world is that coastline, watching this makes me sorely miss it, but happy to see you enjoyed it though :)
+edsloan The Yorkshire Coast is absolutely stunning, I was spoiled for choice when it came to great views to capture :-) thanks for watching
Great video thank you
Thanks for watching Ron 👍
A great overnighter that, fantastic spot.. that disused lookout looked promising as well I guess. Is the tarp an Alpkit one ?
+steve butler Hi Steve, sorry for the delayed response. The Tarp is a Terra Nova Adventure 2
Great video as always guys :) atb
+Paul Sheard Thanks for watching Paul
A really great video Dean, beautiful scenery and some awesome sky's and sunrise shots. It's a part of the country I've been meaning to visit, my dads been going there for the last couple of years, and the Cleveland way has been on my radar since late last year, I just need the OS maps lol
Thanks for sharing mate, ATB Mark
Nice Dean,I lived and worked at the ravenscar hotel for a couple of months when I was doing catering in my youth,it is a stunning location,is the good the bad and the ugly sample in your music a reference to Yourself Ray and Jay ?
Another super upload Dean, i was in Staithes earlier this year and did a couple of sections of the way. Stunning up there isn't it?
+Michael Leigh I've really enjoyed the small section of coastline I've walked along there, definitely need to plan a return trip soon :-) thanks for watching
It's always been cool to see my area on videos (I live in sunny scarbados). It's always funny hearing southners pronounce towns lol. Enjoying the content.
I'm from Derbyshire so definitely not southern :-) haha. Thanks for watching Martin 👍
Ginger that overnight looked freezing. Where was your lovely daughter - not on this trip? Love your attention to Yorkshire. Thank you. Cheers
My daughter is 17 now so I'm not cool enough to be seen with anymore :-) haha
@@DeanRead Well I just bet if you asked - she would tell you that she does have the coolest dad of the lot of her mates. She is a lucky kid - and I think she knows how lucky she is to have an adventurous Dad. Don't underestimate how she values you.
Nice to see you back Dean.
Looked like an awesome place to camp as long as you don't sleepwalk Lol.
Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to your next one.
ATB Mike
#StayCornish 😬
PS 2.5 weeks to Edale 😬
+Cornish Knives & Camping Was gutted I missed Edale Mike, sadly I couldn't get the time off work and wasn't able to get away in evenings to come say hi. Hopefully catch you at the next one if not before. Thanks for watching and all the best
Thanks for posting man,
I'm laid up with a slipped disk at the moment, so not able to get out myself.
Videos of the outdoors are all that's keeping me sane :s
Keep on, keeping on. (probably bump into you up at Tescos again soon)
Tim o/
+Peak District Hillbilly Thanks for watching Tim, hope you are on the mend mate. Last time I walked to Tesco I think I saw your other half, would be about 2 weeks ago but didn't want to seem like a weirdo and say hi just incase I was wrong :-) haha.
That's funny, coz she said exactly the same thing to me a couple of weeks ago :-)
My back's all good now, I'm out biking, running and hiking again.
Have a good 'un
+Peak District Hillbilly haha :-) I'll have to say hello next time.
Glad you're back out there mate, see you again soon no doubt
hi dean. we don't use any other social media than UA-cam (if it can be classed as social media?). we saw you last week in hathersage while on our hols. you were just about to leave so we didn't say "hi" as we thought it wasn't appropriate. we notice you haven't made any peak district videos for a while......but we would be very pleased if you would share them again. we don't live in the area but had a childhood in the peaks. your videos make us feel we are visiting the peak district with you.....admiring the scenery and hearing the crunch of grit stone underfoot.....we can even smell the bracken! so in a nutshell, we're missing your videos. we watch others, but they're not quite the same and don't seem to share our passion of Derbyshire like you...regards Deborah and Tim :-)
Exactly , these are just top drawer and Dean has a superb personality .
Hi Debbie and Tim, you should definitely have said Hi. it would have been great to meet you. Really hope you enjoyed your holiday too. Thank you so much for your very kind words and it really did make me smile when I read it. I really appreciate the support and the fact that people watch my online offerings. All the best and I hope you get to return to the peaks again soon, Dean
lovely video Dean. i thought it was Robin Hoods bay before you even introduced it. keep them coming when you get the time sir
+defiantsx24 Thanks for watching, my daughter has almost finished her exams so hopefully we'll be out more then :-)
Hi Dean. I really enjoyed this video. Your photography and narration were excellent.
Thanks for providing your videos to us "avid hikers".
Question: Did you ever finish the Cleveland Way? I looked at their website and saw that it followed the coast for quite a ways, then turned south and inland. Looks like an interesting trail.
I live in north Georgia (US) and am hiking the Appalachian Trail in sections, hence my interest in long-distance trails.
I learned about you originally by watching your 3-part series on the Hadrian's Wall trail (which I really enjoyed).
Thanks,
Ken
Hi Ken, thanks for watching. I never went back to do the full Cleveland Way but it's definitely something I'd like to do in the future as it's a fantastic route. The trek along Hadrian's wall is excellent too but I must confess to being slightly obsessed with parts of the AT. I've been daydreaming about walking the 100 mile wilderness for some time now :-) All the best, Dean.
Great video. Probably not a spot for sleep walkers😂
I'm looking for suggestions for my first wild camp with my 6 year old daughter. Just an overnight rear Hull. Was thinking of around spurn head or maybe Warrum Percy. Any suggestions
Such a beautiful contryside! I really have to come back to england to hike! :)
Dean, I was wondering: do you use a groundsheet with your hunka bivvy? I recently got one myself and I've seen some people using a groundsheet and some apparently don't. What's your recommendation? TIA, Julia
Hi Julia, thanks for watching. I've never used a groundsheet myself when sleeping in a bivvy. I used to have an Army bivvy that was very durable, the Alpkit bivvy seems to be pretty tough even though it feels much thinner. I think its down to personal preference but I've slept on wet ground and it's never been an issue as it cleans easily. Atb Dean
That's good to hear, thanks :) Since I'm carrying gear for 2 (me and my son (2)) I try to carry essentials only, so I might just leave the groundsheet at home next time. atb, Julia
Great video Dean has Ray got a king size bed with him?
+Gary Salisbury Thanks for watching Gary. Ray's matt is affectionately known as the bazooka, it's a beast isn't it :-) haha
Hi dean, do you have any new uploads in the pipeline? I really enjoy your videos, they've cheered me up when I've been going through a bad illness so thank you, ATB Ryan
+Ryan Duerden Hi Ryan thanks for watching the videos. We've been really busy lately as my daughter is doing her GCSE exams, sadly I've not had much time to get out camping but I'm hoping I'll get out again soon. Hope you are getting through your illness and feeling better soon. ATB Dean
Dean Read thank you dean, I wish your daughter all the luck in the world for her upcoming examinations. Atb Ryan
+Ryan Duerden Thanks Ryan, she only has 4 more to go this week and then that's it thankfully
Your welcome dean, looking forward to your next video. Atb Ryan
Dean\Ray wonderful video-----your two great people..........from Dr LIn @RDH and husband /Stuart
+Stuart Lin Thanks for watching :-)
Absolutely cracking video Dean, all the elements that make your videos so enjoyable to watch! What a stunning place for a bivi camp. Love the new music as well!...Atb Nige
+TarmacSoftee Cycling Thanks for watching Nige, I'd been wanting to go back and walk that section for a few years so I'm so glad we dropped lucky with the weather. Sadly I didn't format the memory card properly in the drone so I only managed to capture the small snippet at the start :-) whoops. ATB Dean
Still watching! You have to keep up with these videos. Doesn't matter how long you take to make a new one as long as you enjoy doing it, we will always enjoy watching them! I think the love hate thing with UA-cam and social media effects us all. Keep doing what you do, you do it so well! 😃
+TarmacSoftee Cycling thanks Nige, means a lot. I really enjoy making the videos and having them there online for the memories. There have just been a few things online that I've seen and witnessed that have left me with very little faith in humanity and it has ruined the online experience for me a bit. I'll never stop making videos though, I'm definitely benefiting from not being heavily involved on social media etc at the moment.... it just means I now have about 400+ UA-cam comments to reply too :-) whoops.
Well ya sure would not want to sleep walk camping up on that ridge, it would take more than your breath away. Hey great vid bro,,I've just got to say it,,,may the 4th be with you.
+Ken Allen yeah t would be the most ideal spot to camp if you're a sleep walker :-) you'd end up wet or worse. Thanks for watching Ken
Try sportpursuit website for new gear dean they have some great offers on at the moment....I don't work for them btw. All the best, keep up the good work.
+nigel richardson Thanks for watching and for the recommendation Nigel
Awesome
Thanks for watching :-)
liking the beard and that music sounds like ennio morricone
+sky flower Thanks for watching. The music is a remix of Ennio Morricone's Ecstasy of Good from the Good, the bad and the ugly :-) I remixed it a few years ago but made his version specifically for the video.
Thanks mate
+Eddie Hooper Thanks for watching Eddie
Great vid! Thanks:-)
What tarp is used in this vid? It's something I'd like to try for this kind of quick/light trip out.
+Wonky Lommiter thanks for watching. I used a Terra Nova adventure 2 Tarp in this video
Is this a new song Dean? Sounds good! By the way, it's been another 5 or 6 months since I last asked, but is there any news on the album?!? I would definitely buy it!
+1500lego I'm useless and prioritising, I always start projects and move on to others so I'm still wanting to get some tracks made :-) haha. This track is just a remix of the "Ecstasy of Gold" track I made a while ago but it fits this video nicely. Thanks for watching
Dean Read any chance we'll see you making a new upload in the coming weeks? Not so many videos this year so far!
+1500lego My main priority in the last 4-5 months has been my daughters GCSE exams but she is nearly done now. Once she's done we'll be out having some adventures to increase her fitness levels ready for her to join the Army. I've been getting out walking and cycling a lot but without the camera.
Dean Read Hah, join the club- been bogged down my GCSEs myself for sooo long now and can't wait to get outdoors again this summer. Wish her all the best in the remaining exams! Only a few left now!
+1500lego yeah she only has 4 left now, all the time and effort has paid off I think. I feel like I've sat them with her, I've probably been more nervous haha :-)
Well technically you were watching the "suns" :D
+Gazeranco true :-) haha, thanks for watching Gaz
sneaky night out but hey a night on the coast is not be be missed, cracking establishing shot at the beginning
+wild camping wales Thanks for watching, I forgot to format the memory card on my drone or this video would have featured more aerial views :-) ATB Dean
blessing in disguise there me old mate less is more with a drone.
It’s all overgrown now the place you camped.
Thanks for watching James.. walked past it a few months ago while walking the Cleveland Way, bought back some great memories of this video
I bet. It’s a lovely coastline!
If someone buys you the Sony A7R2...can I have your canon 7D ? :-D
+RDPproject haha :-) Thanks for watching Rob
I'll give you a tenner for it :-)
+RDPproject it's my dad's, I'll have to ask him :-)
GET BACK VLOGGING YOU PAL & Soon :)
