When he says "slipknot" at the beginning, he's talking about a Lark's Head knot. Basically you tie a fixed loop at one end of the guy line and loop the other (working) end of the rope through the loop.

I have the DD 5x5 massive tarp very heavy excellent for bushcrafting type deals or car camping now for my hammock camping I prefer the chill gorilla storm 2 with doors
I do have other oddball tarps for various camping needs
But my chill gorilla storm 2
And the chill gorilla hexagon cut are my two main tarps for my hammock camping and a little bit of my cowboy camping they're quite versatile for that especially since the storm has doors

The size is not a problem. I live in Sweden and have several tarps. One from Pathfinder, 8 x 8. Set it up as a plow point and fire in front. I use it even winter time. No problem. A 3 x 3 meter is ofcourse covering a larger surface but that is not always necessary especially if alone and I am considered short. So it depends Luke 😉

To be fair, not many tarps come with guylines or stakes. Aqua quest, bushcraft usa, Terra nova. None do. I've never had a tarp come with them and I've never heard you mention that as an issue on any other tarp you reviewed.

I have that and it's meant to be used with hammock diagonally. It's just enough for regular hammock in normal conditions, not in storm. It's somewhat cheap (in Finland) and somewhat light (price wise). Of course you can do another things with it too and i've used it as cover during rain alongside with tent. You need to keep in mind that our prices are way higher in general compared to amazon and it's products.

I have a number of Tarps but my 3x3 Coyote Brown DD SuperLight and my DD 3x3 Multicam are my go to tarps for the last 6 years. Not sure where Luke’s came from but mine are excellent. I also always carry their magic carpet, ultralight hammock & bug net. I also have a 4x4 DD Forest Green Tarp but when it comes to the ultimate in tarp versatility nothing beats my 3x3.
You have to remember that here in the UK stealth is everything- we just don’t have those big open places to roll up in a monster truck and roll out your 8m x 8m tarp

After watching this video I must say I am not surprised at the quality issues found with the DD tarp. Last year, after a lot of research and reading rave reviews of their products, I ordered a DD Hammocks ultralight mesh A-frame tent ($109) and the A-frame outer in multicam ($135). Since the outer was only available directly through their website, I purchased both directly from DD Hammocks. After the order disappeared from tracking for some weeks it finally arrived here in the US. Shortly after I received an additional bill for $38 from US customs for its shipment from Shanghai China. Needless to say I was both shocked and ticked! And, to top it off, as with the tarp in this video, when I went to use the tent there were two “needle holes” in the corners of the mesh inner’s bathtub floor. When I sent photos to DD customer service I was told simply, “Holes are normal occurrence when stitching reinforcements”. So… based on that regrettable experience, I am no longer a believer in the DD Hammocks hype. Nor will I be a repeat customer.

With tarps, I tend to think you get what you pay for most of the time. I bought an Aquaquest 10 x 10 tarp about 4 years ago. It wasn't cheap. It was $120 then. The price has actually come down a little since then, but they're still about $110. In 4 years of scouting, camping, backpacking, etc. ... the tarp still looks brand new. It has held up exceptionally well. It's big. The stitching is perfect. It has a ton of tie-out points. It's a great tarp. Would definitely pay the higher cost again today if I were considering a new tarp.

Yea no thank-you I don't know that one company. I have heard of dd.. I cant say I'd want this tarp...I had, what was it...the war bonnet superfly tarp with doors..well after 12 years, it finally shredded. You do have big tarps on your channel that you review. Yea, I'll get one of them next time. Ty brother and stay safe out there. Yea, I asked war bonnet to make me a bigger tarp. Like a 16 x 12...they said no ..ok then...I'll go to hammock gear, randy will make one out of Cuban fiber. With my specs. With doors. I need a long tarp as my hammock big and I want 3 feet on each side overhang ....please explain to the kind folks on your channel when you have rain, your hammock gets wet if you don't take proper measures, having a longer tarp with those drip methods keeps you dry. Btw....I have a hammock gear dl thunderbird from randy. They no longer make that style, but he keeps coming up with crazy new brilliant hammocks that I want

I've 6 tarps in my SUV for car camping and they're in color coded bags and the smallest is 10 x 10. The Largest is 15 x 20. Usually used for shading the sides and rear of the vehicle. Plus spares. I've also lent out a couple of my spare tarps for when friends have forgotten or need more coverage than they thought. I am a big proponent of having different tarps for various uses.

I could use an 8x8 tarp. I use a tarp to make an awning or extended vestibule over a tent. In this case my 10x10 is a little too big and my army poncho is a little too small. The manufacturing quality is not an issue for my use. However, the tarp in the review is heavy and bulky and is of no interest to me. Especially at that price.

The lean to configuration has very limited use with a small tarp. I have a similar size that I works well for me in a plow point configuration. That said it wouldn’t be this one because of the other manufacturing deficits it has, ie tie points, stitching, fabric used …and cost for the product. I’ve never bought a tarp that came with cordage and pegs, so that factor didn’t surprise me.

The size of the tarp is OK, as far as I"m concerned. Just a bit larger than my Pathfinder tarp. But, limiting the number of tie-outs is a big drawback. The Pathfinder tarp is 7'8" by 7'8" and it has 19 tie-outs. To be truthful, 7'8" square is a bit small and I'm not a big guy -- 5'10". The main advantage to a small tarp is pack size and weight. If I had it to do over again I'd spend the extra money and buy a DD Hammocks Ultra-light tarp for $105.00. Buy once, cry once!

I understand everything he's saying except the fact that Varustelleka is a MILITARY supplier. The criteria would be different in war vs camping. I've been a buyer of Varustelleka for years now and I always have to use that "military filter" when buying their good. Military men would NEVER use TOGR'S displayed set up for shelter but instead go for low profile so I think philosophy of use here is incorrect overall.
Good to know about the holes tho. I wouldn't expect that from either company.

Too much! I won't pay more than $30 for a hiking tarp, @ Temu, Free Soldier etc. & they work fine, provide shelter & rain cover. they come with stakes & lines, bag. For something that small I'll take 2 contractor trash bags & some duct tape instead. Emergency gear I consider single use & disposable as the situation requires. For $ 50-70 I'd get a waterproof bivy or take my tent

Not sure where you got that DD tarp from, but I get mine straight from DD and they are fantastic. Also is their customer service. And I’ve tested the heck out of their MC line.
I think what you have in front of you is not an example of DD quality. But I also think you’re painting your opinion with an extremely large brush.

That setup looks useless...unless you need a sail. Gloves with finger holes make no sense. My palms don't get cold.

I never got it either but they are useful. Blood passes through the palms to get to the fingers afterall...good for layering too under a larger heavy duty glove. Slip the outer glove off and finger tips are free for touch screens, adjusting knots etc.

I have to be honest; I don't know why people are still buying tarps with seams that you have to seal. I would MUCH rather use a tarp with bonded seams like DutchWare Gear (ua-cam.com/video/iweOetcjzYc/v-deo.htmlsi=pApiRfP4vMrIGk-f)
