Garlic is probably the best early game item, since it one hits very weak enemies. But once enemies get some real health it becomes near useless. It's evolution is very good though which gives it some late game value, especially since it pairs with the health regen item which is always helpful so you aren't losing a support slot. It also gives you a semi immunity to projectiles, since projectiles are low health they will get destroyed before they hit you.
I honestly think this is one of the best games ever, the grindablility, the ZERO micro transactions, the progression, the characters, ABSOLUTELY INSANE! LOVE IT!!!
Something I learned to do when the flowers show up is, if I get cornered, to just push out through them, as they do pretty pitiful damage compared to what you could take from the probably way tougher other monsters. The flowers have a ton of HP, but they aren't really a threat, and if you time it right, you can make them collide with scenery and break the circle that way.
Completely agree with the garlic. I avoided it because it looked weak. But I had one run where the garlic was the only good option. Selected it and omg... should have used it sooner. Helps with all the runs and protects against monsters in proximity of your guy. Literally garlic is the first thing you should try to get on your every run. Also focus on your power ups. Focus one at a time. Eventually the runs get quicker and easier. I just use stage 1 and farm all the gold I can to level up all the power ups. Activate them and it'll make your runs faster.
garlic is a bit of a newbie trap tbh, atleast it used to be, i havent played in a few months. The thing about garlic is that it doesn't scale great once you reach the later waves, but it is very good in the beginning and if you're newer and want an extra bit of security for the early waves
I wish you wouldn't type this because it's sucha newbie trap for anyone. While garlic is decent and gives a nice comfort with the survivability, it actually doesn't scale well at all, and get's outshined by pretty much everything in the game, therefore there basically won't be a run at all where you would go Garlic.
The first thing I unlocked was garlic and I picked it as soon as I could, just because it feels classic to go in with nothing but a whip, a bible, and a hank of garlic. I was very pleasantly surprised. The way it melts the enemies in the early waves of the forest and the library, and as good as it gets after just a couple upgrades, it can give you a better edge grinding levels because you just walk through everything and pick up the exp immediately. My best runs with Antonio have definitely included it, and it encourages you to get in close to really maximize damage with the whip. The first time you go toe-to-toe with the green zombies and win will make you feel pretty good. Garlic forever.
Luck is very important in this game. Give you much better pickups and the multichests. You also want a single point in the regen upgrade, you never want to pick up the regent passive though
My biggest struggle as someone who just bought this yesterday is that every beginner guide says to start at the library, but I can not unlock it. I can get lv 16-18, then at minute 11 when the skelly horde spawns in, I'm cooked. Damn game is fun as hell, though; I keep trying despite the constant failures.
@Born2Game I booted up before going to work, and I hit Lv 20 due to sheer luck, lol. I got 4 vacuums and a rosary as soon as the skelly horde spawned. I'm super excited to try the library when I get home!
I would suggest upgrading 2-3 weapons until they get to their more powerful, ultimate forms, rather than having just a few points in 6 weapons. Rune Tracer, for example has many projectiles that penetrate more enemies and ricochets more times them more points you put into it. When it gets it's final form, the projectiles explode in a large area. Upgrade a weapon to level 8 then open a chest and it will supercharge that weapon. It's much more powerful than having just a handful of points distributed between a half dozen different ones.
It was easy getting into this game because I played a lot of Survivor io. Only one gripe about this game is the max level for the weapons is 8. That’s just a tad bit much, when compared to io that you max level at 5. Then again the rounds last 15 minutes instead of 30. Don’t underestimate Poe, he’s got the most valuable and powerful item, Garlic. I usually get the furthest with him.
There's a LOT to unlock in this game, and a LOT of it isn't shown in neither the "secrets", "collection", "achievement" or any other menus - LOTS of secret hidden synergies and LOTS of ways you can learn about how your gaming device might be a hindrance ;P You get to a point eventually, when you're setting up your favorite grinding character for a >2h run where you play for the first ~30mins setting yourself up, then afk'ing and doing chores while your character just stands there killing enemies, gathering monies/lvls, and occasionally you come by picking up chests etc., sometimes stretching the run out to 8h+ to amass 100m+ gold so you can buy a bunch of eggs with another character you want to make more powerful. (still hoping for an update that allows for showing more gold in the main screen, you can apparently amass more than 9,999,999 gold; no limit is really apparent when spending, but the main game screen can maximally display 9,999,999!!!) Meanwhile, waiting for updates with new balance changes, characters, weapons, secrets, etc.. But yea, I'd say, having put some 150+ 'hours' into Vampire Survivors, it's well worth some money.. like around 20£ I'd probably say is a reasonable price for it actually, so if you can buy it for cheaper or get it free, consider yourself treated! :D

Not sure what set up you need to beat the Reaper once you get to 30 minutes,, still working it out. Great game, absolutely love it, definitely would have passed on this if you hadn't previewed it
I’ll try that build when I next play and see how it goes for me. I dunno, I had an Imelda run with Thunder Hoop, Hellfire, La Brea and Death Spiral and at the end the Thunder Hoop and Hellfire had the highest damage output while Death Spiral lagged. But that might just be due to speed when compared to Hellfire, since the scythes could only clean up with the fire missed. Thunder Hoop is absolutely nutty on its own...
You needed to get at all that XP. Grabbing it is the most useful thing you can get! And if you level up your luck early on you end up with chicken almost everywhere in addition to a bunch of weapon drops that help in a pinch.
