Hail to the Thief is one of my favority Radiohead albums. I am old enough to have listened to Radiohead from the beginning of their career and this album was very meaningful when it came out in 2003. The album is consistent from beginning to end and Wolf at the Door is possibly their best closer. Thanks for the heartfelt reaction. I'm glad you aren't growing up too fast, it's not worth it!
What i love about this album is that even though it was motivated by a very particular thing happening at that time. They chose to write it in a way that feels more relevant now than ever. You provide very interesting perspective. I can't wait for your other radiohead reactions.
Love your reactions, Radiohead in particular, they are very special to me. This album is special to me also, I was pretty familiar with most of their albums? but I first listened to THIS one when I was in hospital for quite a long stay, awaiting major surgery, and I listened to it on headphones, day and night. It's just part of me now I love it. "Wolf at the door" has special resonance. Thank you for this one.
Man do I wish I could go back and listen to these albums for the first time, don't forget they have an entire large catalog of b-sides and non-album tracks and even though they may not fit on a particular album they use the same hard work and care into them as their other tracks. If they wanted to do a cash grab they could've released at least 3 albums filled with stellar tracks if they wanted to and there's a lot of fantastic tracks you need to hear from them.
Your reading of HTTT with the whole idea of call and response is SO insightful, and I didn’t recognise that in all my years listening to this album. Reminds me of Pavlovian conditioning which is interesting thru the lens of Radiohead’s fundamentally anti-propaganda concerns
The title 'hail to the thief' is a reference to an often used phrase used by people opposing the 'stolen' election by George W. Bush (play on 'hail to the chief'). This is radiohead's most overtly political album, with a lot of the songs being written as a reaction to Bush's 'war on terror'
This is very unusual for a Radiohead album, they're a band that takes years and a huge amount of work/editing to release an album but they recorded this record very quickly without their typical insanity. This probably could've used some editing but the rawness of it is very cool and these songs are fantastic live.
IIRC some of the tracks were leaked before they were finished which forced the band to release the full album earlier than they planned. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would have trimmed it or sequenced it differently had they had more time. In fact, I think Thom posted something about what he would’ve preferred the tracklist to be
33:48 in a lot of the songs live Ed o brien does the back vocals. Like at the start of 2+2=5 in almost all of the live versions, he is singing with thom and also at the end of There, There. But I'm not sure if Ed's voice is layered or not in the studio versions
@@growupslowlypod Oh their From the Basement is superb, you're gonna love it. The whole TV show was created by Nigel Godrich who produces all Radiohead's albums so the show was like made for them lol
On the studio recording, Thom usually layers all his own vocals. But for live performances, other members like Ed will often fill in on backing vocal duties, for obvious reasons, while Thom sings the lead vocals.
Hail to the Thief is reference to Hail to the Chief, The personal anthem of The U.S President after George W Bush 'stole' the election and started the War with Iraq, the 'War on Terror'. The album is packed full of anti-war messages and although not exlusively, it is pretty much a protest album.
@@growupslowlypod A Moon Shaped Pool is actually my favorite album, all emotional and orchestrated. There are also two songs that aren’t on albums you’ll love. One was made for a James Bond movie called “Spectre” and another brilliantly orchestrated song called “The Daily Mail”. Also, once you listen to all the albums, they did these amazing live recording sessions in the studio for several of the albums. Check out all of their “From the Basement” full album videos. It’s also fun to see their personalities.
Your breakdowns are very informative and interesting, definitely don’t apologize for talking!
Exact! To quote Aragon: ''My friend, you bow to know one''
Wolf at the Door is one of my all time favorite songs from any group or genre.
I was at the show where it debuted, and loved it from the very first time I heard it.
HTTT is special for me because 2003 is when I first got into Radiohead and October of that year was my first time seeing them live 🥹

With the current political situation in the states, this album is as relevant now as it was during the Bush era. Great reaction! Cheers from Montréal.

Thank you for this one.
Music can attach itself so beautifully to a phase of life. Wishing you all the best!
Underrated Radiohead album same with TKOL
so insightful and intellectually rich.. thank you for your commentary😔
33:00. Thom does all the layers in the studio. Live, Ed and sometimes Phil do harmonies. I’d be slightly hurt if I were them!
Thank you!!
Ed does more usually then phil. Sometimes Ed even gets on the record like on let down and identikit I think

Sweet thank you, I’m hoping to do the “From the Basement” recordings at some point so that should add some live context to it for me.
@@growupslowlypod the basement performances are amazing you'll enjoy it.
I think most of the time on the actual record it's thom but I know on let down studio version Ed does sing on at least the part near the end

Recortaste demasiado las canciones . Creo que tambien es bueno ver lo que sientes mientras escuchas y no solo tus conclusiones. Un saludo 👋🏻
Seconded. Let's hear more of the song and see more of your reaction.
Noticed the fontains record in the background. If you like them I'd be really curious for your reaction to when I have fears by the murder capital
I would definitely consider doing this album, all I know is “On Twisted Ground” which I always enjoyed. So I’ll add it to a list, good pull!!
Have you heard a moon shaped pool yet?
Not yet, going through the albums in order!
@@growupslowlypod nice. it's so good. it's my favorite to watch reactions of hehe!

I think all their albums are great, they really have very few tracks that aren't worth listening to, even The Beatles can't say that.
Next "In Rainbows"?)
Yes!!
Please react to The Smiths - I Know It's Over
