I only learned about the effects of different mics on different voices from Curtis's thorough reviews. A combination of objective and subjective (sometimes aesthetic?) factors. My thought here was that if I could choose different mics, I might go with the Azden for a voice like Emma's but for Curtis either the Deity or the Sennheiser. But if circumstances constrained me to just one, it would be the Sennheiser as a nice overall performer. Very educational review, as always.
And I think that would be a fine choice. This seems to be one of those situations where choosing any one of the three would work out well in most situations.
Great work on your cannel Curtis. I've recently enjoyed many of your videos and they're so informative and well presented. I currently use the Deity V-Mic Pro 3 on a boom...but to me it comes across sounding thin, lacks depth and warmth to my voice. Currently I'm not into any kind of post production. I have a video editor that works on my footage and I record my audio through my Canon M6 Mark II. I like shooting my videos without having a microphone in the scene. So I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser MKE600 to get that warm sound in the lows, clean mids and crispy highs. Just wondering if you woud have any other powered microphone alternatives that I could boom apart from the MKE600 that would work as good or possibly better? I would like to keep my budget under $1000 if possible. Thank you, Lee
The noise is much higher than MKE600 in the sample and the Azden specification agrees with this (76 dB (1 kHz @ 1 Pa) is 94-76=18dB A-rated). The MKE600 is 15dB A-rated on phantom power.
Any of the three could work. I think it is mainly about finding the one which fits your voice best. But any of the three would probably work well (and you can tune it for your particular voice with EQ in post).
Hi Curtis, i am an amateur short film producer. I will usually shoot dialogue outside. I wiil use auido recorder zoom f3. Do you recommend the mke600 or the deity s-mic2? Please reply me your opinion is very important :)
To my ears the Azden sounded better than the Deity but not even close to the Sennheiser. Though I did wish you repeated the Azden sound before playing the Sennheiser sound, as that would have been an easier comparison than having the Azden separated from the Sennheiser by the Deity (which, as I said, sounded much worse to my ears than the Azden, so perhaps I am unfairly comparing the Sennheiser with the Deity rather than the Sennheiser with the Azden). And yes, I know I could go back in the video to listen to the Azden again, than skip straight to the Sennheiser, and I might do it if I was currently looking for a new microphone. But I am not.
Liked the Azeden sound best. Using a iPad and Bose premium headphones, toggled true the nr modes the se if there where any differences, and no, it was not. Thx,
Do Will you take a look at the superlux e525s. Is a china super cheap stereo/ms shotgun mic goes new for €300 and i got used in close to New condition for €40 including shipping. And i am suppriced on the quality. Its really great for location sound in ENG / Docu productions. Its 10x better then the small sony on camera shotgun mic, that is on most sony eng camera. And that one was priced for 800$ at the time
Interesting that Curtis likes the Deity. For me it trails the other two by quite a margin. There is a thinness and a hollow sounding colouration that was particularly evident on his' voice. For me the Sennheiser wins. Just.
@@curtisjudd Playback EQ is always a factor and I can definitely see why you would prefer the Azden - esp. on your voice. Always amazes me how the sound opens up with the pickup pattern - even when there is little discernable ambience.
I've had issues with Deity products. They sounded fine except mine all had unbearable self noise, my S-Mic 2S I'd guess was 30+ dBA of noise because it was easily twice as loud as mics I've used with 24 dBA.
Thank Curtis for this DETAILED video of Azden SGM 250H.
👍
Your intro back and forth with the mic was gold. You know your videos are good, but that intro was on another level. Appreciate you sir!
👍
Really great seeing all these good mics at a great price
Indeed!

RODE NTG3 and the Sennheiser MKH 416 are the two I’d recommend.
@@curtisjudd Thank you!
MKE 600 sounds the cleanest and most natural imo
👍

Well I’m glad we didn’t process the samples. 👍
I really love your videos
I think about it often. 🙏
I agree with Emma: I thought the Azden sounded very good - and clearly more pleasing than the other two. Apparently not available in the EU.
Thanks Lau
Great review, as always. Just wondering how you think the Synco Mic D2 compares with the Azden? Cheers👍
Thanks. I haven’t done an in-depth review of the Synco so I’m not sure.
@@curtisjudd ok
hey there Mr Judd, would you recommend the Azden SGM 250 H, for voice over work? or, which of those 3 mics you reviewed, would you recommend?

Yes, I recommend both.
Interesting! Thanks for the review. Would've like to hear it against the azden 3500.
Thanks. Unfortunately, I gave the 3500 away, but you can cue up my 3500 review in another browser tab and hear them back to back.
Sounds like around 250hz-450hz area could be tamed a bit on this mic? With the low cut filter on the bump in that range sounds a bit more apparent.
Could be, yes.
can you review the Sony B10 microphone?
Looks interesting, but unfortunately I do not have any Sony cameras with which to test it. I'm sorry.
For interiors, as a backup, would you recommend the SGM-250 or 250P?
I’d recommend the 250H instead.

It sounds like you should review it 😉
win your opinion wich one is better the deity d3pro or Azden SGM 250
Do you need 3.5mm output or XLR?
thanks so responding so fast. really don't matter, i justa wann have a litle better video for my small inteviews with my clients
@@curtisjudd
really don't matter
@@MelvinDlaCruz Then I'd choose the Azden.250H
@@curtisjudd thanks so muchhh
heyy can I connect a XL mic to my scarlet and then export to audio to my camera directly?
Depends on your camera and whether it has XLR inputs
@@curtisjudd i have the comica AD3
@@MelvinDlaCruz Then yes, you should be able to use the Comica to feed an XLR microphone into your camera if your camera has a 3.5mm microphone input.
This works quite well with your voice.
👍
Where is the serialnumber on the mke 600?
I'm not sure, maybe it is the number in the battery compartment. Contact Sennheiser to confirm.
How does the azden compare to the original?
Cleaner and more balanced sounding.
For me i like your shirt the most in this review 😀 Although the Azden sound better to my ears than the others ... nice review as usual Curtis
Hahaha! Thanks Ahmed.
Curtis, you left out the Audio Technica AT 897!!
I haven’t gotten there yet, but it is still on my list. So many mics, so little time…🙂
My favourite 🤩

Everyone hears differently. When I sat down to listen again, the Azden sounded best when SoundID Reference is on.

@@dylanj8676 Yes, the 2S is noisy, much more so than the S-Mic 2. They’re not the same microphone so I wouldn’t lump those two together.
