Will This Solve the #1 RV Repair Item for Slide-Outs?

  • A few videos back I explained how much I liked and appreciated the Seamless Slide-Outs Tiffin used on their RVs. Once Thor Manufacturing purchased Tiffin, those slides were discontinued, but the manufacturer of the slide-outs enjoyed hearing how much I appreciated their product, they asked if I'd like to see something new they developed, to replace fabric roller, slide out topper/awnings. While they sent me a link describing the product, I couldn't really appreciate how revolutionary the design was until I saw it in person.
They invited me to stop by and see the presentation at the January FMCA rally in Indio. So needing a break from cross country driving almost non-stop, I checked in to see if the True Topper really is going to solve some of the most common slide out repairs and causes of slide failures: the slide out roller awning. Between torn facrics, broken hardware, wind noise, water leaks, and unpleasant appearance, slide out awnings seem to constantly need help and repair. So join me as we discover how the True Topper works.
Note: I was not compensated for any part of this video or asked to be kind or use company talking points, but this was just my words and impression.
All inquiries should go to the team @ truetopperusa.com
Also note, the end journey was the delivery of the 2018 London Aire from Sewell Motorcoach in Kentucky to its new owners. ‪@Sewellmotorcoach‬

After watching this and doing my own research I pulled the trigger. I have a Monaco 2008 it had carefree toppers on it. I also have a full wall slide. 3 slides total. We purchased this coach in 2020. Drove it home from LA to Washington. In Oregon we had the big slide out. We have to have this out in order use the coach. We can have the other slides out or in. But in Oregon a big gust of wind hit us and destroyed the topper. We drove the rest of the way home with the topper hanging off the side. Thank you to ALL the people who drove by and told us about it. When I got home I cut it off. As the coach was new to us and we had no tools. But looking in to replacing it was going to be about the same price as the TrueTopper system. Now I don’t have to worry about wind rain water pooling up in the middle of a very long slide (29’). We just got into very high wind situation we had to put in our other two slides in because of the noise at 3:00am and worried that they may rip off. This TrueTopper system is awesome works exactly like they said it would. Dennis and Neil were great to deal with along with Heidi front office. I highly recommend this system. I will be doing my other slides soon.

Great product review. I was getting ready to replace Carefree of Colorado slide out topper on my Class A that I damaged when I came close and personal with a tree (tree 1 RV 0). I love the whole concept, it really does a wonderful job of diverting water away from the side seals. I was only going to have to one topper replaced but after watching this video, I'm going to replace all four of my toppers with this system. You did a great job interviewing them, you asked real good questions that really informed the viewers.

Great interview James! I had contacted Dennis last year to upgrade our 2015 Tiffin Allegro Bus. The cost at that time was $1,500 for each slide-out or a total of $6,000 without painting. The only reason i haven’t done it is that we were thinking about trading to a 45’ bus. We decided against that so looking at this upgrade when we can plan a trip to Red Bay.
Thanks for video it was so much more informative than their website. Would like to see videos on a Tiffin retrofit, cutting off the slide top flush and the plates to cover the topper mounting holes.

I hate slide toppers! I like this solution. But what about costs not mentioned? I'm sure fabric toppers are still the cheaper way to go (to replace originals) but cost information, even if it were a "general" number (due to size differences, color etc.) , it would be as important to know. Guess they just want you to contact them so they can give you that personalized shock? Good thinking on their part to have you do a meet and greet with them and for you to help get the word out.

I lost my 25' slide topper in bad wind, while in Oklahoma. At 3 in the morning. Then it rained and the water came in due to poor seals from the Thor factory. I don't know if something like this would work on my Thor Tuscany. I did replace the topper and springs when I got home, but I made (what I call) a pair of topper clamps, using 3/8" and 1/4" square tubing. The 1/4" tubing slides in the 3/8" tubing with L shape padded tubing on both ends. One goes on the top of the topper and the other goes under the bottom of the slide out. Pull them together and tighten the set screw. Works like a champ. No more flapping. No more worries.

There is an issue with older long slides where the slide roof has sagged a 1/2” or so in the middle. This leads to water pooling against the inner flange. AZ Expert have you ever dealt with this sagging issue? Not sure this new topper system could be used with the sag issue. Great video!

I didn't read all the previous 100 plus comments...but down south in Louisiana, we deal with heat more than Ice. I value the slide topper to help shade the slide roof from the direct sun. I admit, the wind can be a problem at times but I deal with sun more than wind.

We are full-timers. I met these gentlemen in Coos Bay last summer at the FMCA rally and was excited to get this installed on my diesel pusher. Dennis inspected my coach had not seen slides like mine that did not have a single 90 degree angle between the flange and the slide out box. My slide outs have a “step” so there are are two 90 degree angles to deal with to do the installation. I would have been the first customer with that situation and declined to be the guinea pig. They were candid that it would be a challenge, but could be done. I asked them to call me after they had done someone elses. They were good guys but I haven’t heard back so my slide boxes must not be the norm. I would love to get this done.

This is a good product for protecting the slide seal at the top and I guess I see how it can scrape stuff off the top while it’s closing but with the standard topper it keeps the debris off the top completely. Also this will not cut down on noise from rain.

Only thing I can add is that, in the event of an interview or product review, you make sure that the conversation(s) are leveled for audio, meaning that your audio level and the other person's are at the same level. This may mean that you put a mic on the person holding a conversation with you, and you wear one, too. I don't know how to tell you to do this, unfortunately, not having done it myself. Great product and you did a good job interviewing, but what's with your shirt neck? Reminds me of the Downy laundry detergent commercial...😊. Love your channel.

I feel traditional toppers have a benefit that they failed to mention. SHADE

Another great video and a very intriguing product! We're wintering close by you here in The Valley and will volunteer to be your guinea pig if you'd like to do an install of these on our Tiffin Breeze with 2 Seamless Slides! ;)

Looks like an awesome idea! Wondering if works on any slide out , like older coaches? Like 1998 American Dream for example!

I like it! The question I have that I didn't see or maybe I missed it is are they screwed, bolted or rivited on? Also I thought I heard that one benifit to slide toppers was the protection to the slide from the elements especially the heat so wonder how losing that aspect of a slide topper might be addressed. Learning a lot from you James if I ever get that RV I'll be a much better prepared RVer, thank you!

The cast marginal amounts of shade and block marginal amounts of rain, their real purpose is to keep debris off the roof of the slide

@@AZExpert my take, tradittional topper in rainy Florida, Tampa, is a 2 tier protection against the rain. 1st protection is the topper itself, 2nd is the seal on top of the slide out. " Water finds a way", hence i like the double protection i get from having a normal topper.

Cool product but what if the debris that get pass cause a close situation for the topper when the owner forgets to inspect it? Would have to be a perfect surface.

Tiffin used this for one year on the Breeze and went back to toppers. Maybe 2021 or so. Not sure why.

Thor bought them, and when the industry is as consolidated as it is, component manufacurers can control end products very easily, whereas Bob was thoughtful and wouldn't be pushed around.

Great concept and product. Is it limited to certain types of slides? Our 2004 Newmar slide drops a few inches at the end of the travel and didn't know if they have a solution for this feature.
