      There may be a screw on the underside of the cabinet. If not, the chassis is likely stuck and will need some aggressive pulling.

    I'm glad you fixed it anyway. The earlier aqua blue model with the older RCA Victor script below the volume control was the first good record player I had when I was a kid after I wore out a junk acoustic model. Loved the ending..Chipmunks.. You should just smash that record!

    8:49 You're probably sick of reading this, but I'm still hoping to see you wire L & R in series on one of those Crosley cartridges to double the output voltage. It might not have been enough to make this machine palatable, but it would probably help with more marginal cases. I'll bet that amplifier had an over-done version of the low-volume bass-boost that GE and RCA loved so much; it was useful to make an under-powered amp sound good in a demonstration while keeping it from distorting at higher volumes; of course, a weak cartridge would keep the volume knob in the tinny zone. Anyway, that "WHITE GURL" thing at the end had a beat that was so annoying, it sounded as if the record was skipping.

    Do u know where I can find a serial number for this turntable at. I got the same one but blue with the new RCA logo on the lid. Like to see if I can get a schematic to find out the amp is weak. Cartridge dose nothing so I tested the leads on the bottom of the board with aligater clips to a headjack to play music and it's low and distorted at max volume. I did jump 2 caps and one dose nothing (100mfd 15v) well the other drops the audio (2mfd 50v). Thank you.

    I had that cartridge in my 1972 RCA Vibra record changer that I got when I was 6 years old. I used it for about 4 1/2 years. The arm broke and it skipped like crazy before that happened. The tone arm on this one is definitely different. It was a 4 speed, too.

      If I'm not mistaken, RCA discontinued its consumer electronics division, and now on consumer electronics the RCA name is just licensed, while the product itself is built by any one of a dozen or so manufacturers.
      I can't remember where I read that. I remember RCA-branded Bluetooth speakers, and I swear I recall seeing an RCA-branded 'Crosley'-type record player a few years ago.

    Nahh, on a cheapie old record players like this one, your better of staying with the cheap Crosley Chinesism cartridge and toss in another cheap preamp stage and a 12 volt power supply to give it some added boost. At the end of the day, you can still be all done for under $10.00 and, if your looking to bring something back to life so someone can get some use out of it, you really don’t want a $25-30 NOS cartridge in it because, 1. Your wasting a good NOS high voltage cartridge that could save nicer equipment and 2. Whoever gets this to use won’t be willing to invest another $30.00 plus into another NOS cartridge in the reasonably likely event that it fails on them too soon in a few years, so your efforts to make the machine useable and serviceable again will just end with a frustrated new owner tossing it in the trash anyway. On machines like this, I like to just install those cheap red Crosley cartridges onto the arm with some clear silicon chalk; just enough to hold it in place securely but still allow it to be easily removed from the arm when it needs replacement. Even with the added “Chinesism goodness”, you still have a tougher player than a new Crosley but its just as cheap to keep alive as the Crosley!

    The one tube wonders will have cleaner sound. They run in Class A, I don't think that solid state amp runs in class A.

    • @misterhat5823
      @misterhat5823 4 роки тому +1

      The older solid state amps did tend to run class B and have a good bit of zero crossing distortion.

    • @RuneTheFirst
      @RuneTheFirst 4 роки тому

      Most of these old American amps did run in Class A. So did many of the early solid state radios. With only 3 transistors there would be no possibility of anything else.

    In any decent sound system, all the volume you want should come from the final amp stage & volume control. That's why I don't like much modern pop music of any genre. Mastered so loud it clips the input stage of older and most newer gear.

    I understand why they wanted to de-emphasize Nipper, since it was owned by other companies overseas. But that block-letter logo was about as ugly as they could make it. For whatever reason, that was the beginning of the long decline of RCA as a brand.

    • @misterhat5823

      For some reason everyone liked block letters back then though.

    • @pcno2832
      @pcno2832 4 роки тому

      @@misterhat5823 Somebody must have. The Chrysler pentagram-star, another logo I intensely dislike, was phased in around that time. I was happy when they put Nipper back on the record label in the mid 1970s. It also hung around in inconspicuous places on their TVs for years; I assume they (RCA, GE, Thomson) were trying to retain ownership of it in the USA while being able to slap a label over it for any sets that were sold where they couldn't use it.

    • @teacfan1080
      @teacfan1080 4 роки тому

      By 1975, RCA put nipper back on their records again. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I heard they did it because of public complaints that liked that logo. I suppose it was a good idea, have the "new modern" RCA block letters while also emphasizing the roots of the company, even though they didn't take ownership of Victor until 1929.

    • @Musicradio77Network
      @Musicradio77Network 4 роки тому +1

      TEAC Fan Maybe 1976 to say the least. RCA brought back the Nipper “His Master’s Voice” logo after a 7-year hiatus mainly on record albums. when RCA changed it to a modern logo, they ditched the Nipper logo and he would never see it for the next 7 years. Nipper was the original mascot known for the “His Master’s Voice” trademark since it first the scene in 1901 as the Victor Talking Machine Co. in Camden, NJ.
      After RCA ditched the Nipper logo, all records from 1968 through 1975 used the new modern RCA logo for record albums, and the label was orange with the block RCA logo was shown horizontally on the left and the name “Victor” on the right, and no Nipper in sight.
