Thank you for this wonderful lesson. The introduction to this song is surely one of the great tension building 'rev ups' in the history of rock. By the time it reaches the resolution of little 'country lick' before the verse begins, it has never failed to bring a smile to my face. It is so gratifying to see the whole song being given this level of meticulous analysis and attention to detail... and you have helped me to play it, thereby fulfilling a dream that I once held as a 13 year old with neither the resources to buy an instrument nor the talent to pick out the notes. once again, thank you.
Wow - thank you so much for this lesson . As a 62 year old guitar player (and not very good) this is just manna from heaven. I have loved this song since it first came out........I'm going to really try and master this over the coming weeks! You are a great teacher.
...you rule for elucidating that sonic gem... i’ve been listening to this song since the earth cooled and could never wrap my head around some of the licks in this song thank you
Used to play this several years ago, and am about to do it again, but had forgotten most of it. Thanks for posting this lesson, helps me immensely. Your lessons are great. From an admiring Australian.
So refreshing that you shine a light on some fantastic alternative guitar bands/guitarists and explain it all very clearly. I have been a fan of this tune for years but could never work out the second solo so thanks very much. Can I suggest trying Shine On by House of Love?
Yes! Thank you. I learned the intro before by watching a cover on UA-cam and transcribing it but it's great to have it explained properly. One of my favourite songs.
Nice lesson, really helped a lot. Amazingly I was chatting to a friend on Facebook, and said I had been learning this song as it is one of my favourites, and I got a 'like' from John Perry!
Late punk period? True. But really a Power Pop masterpiece. Dave Edmonds in that era, The Jam expired (and Paul Weller went onto solo projects). Great video guide to a great song!
Thank you for the excellent lesson. I am one of those who would be grateful if you would transcribe the whole lead part. I'm in my late 60's, returning to the guitar after decades, and I don't pick up things quite as easily as when I was young. This has been one of my favorite songs for 42 years, and I'm excited for the chance to finally learn to play it. Keep up the excellent work. If things like this had been available when I was young, I likely wouldn't have stopped playing for so long.
Great song and great performance. GREAT TEACHER. I’m following you since I restarted playing guitar after 25 years. Thanks for your lessons and for your videos
Adrian, I bought this single at the time, in it's flowery cover, and you would classify it as New Wave. Punk was a kind of Puritanism, but it gathered in it's slipstream lots of musicians who had been already playing and until Punk happened ignored, and Punk gave them an inspiration and an approach to take with their music, namely playing fast and brief and full of energy.
How can anyone put a dislike against this video! It's a great breakdown of the song and it isn't easy to deduce I know I taught myself to play it I play the lead slightly differently mine being constructed a bit more disjointed, but I'm not a guitar player like you in the video. I cobble things together to get the sound. Great video and I'm sure it will be a god send to people who want to learn to play it as it's all very much back in the song, hard to pick out and most instructors show the easy bits of it and then basically say ' now your on your own' on the lead piece.
One!!!!, Of My Most Loved Song's from Tha 70's, Great li'l Band, into My 80th, Always play continuously 7 or 10 in a Row, You Sound Great!!!, Young!!!, Feller
The great john perry. I once visited him in his house in st pauls bristol in order to make a purchase ! Suffice to say it did not have a satisfactory outcome ! Ha. Much respect to the very great, and sadly late mike kellie on drums. An absolutely stunning drummer
0 One of my all time favourite tracks. Can never get tired of listening to this. Your lesson is excellent. Can you please break down the solo note by note please ?
So brilliant! One of my absolute favourite songs. I found your channel a few months ago when I first started learning guitar and it's been (and continues to be) such an invaluable help, so I just want to say thank you very much for all your wonderful work. Also could I request you perhaps do something by Pulp sometime? That'd be bloody amazing x
Thanks again Adrian, the penny just dropped about the minor - major pentatonic shapes. One starts after the other with pattern 1 and I assume that rule follows through with all the other patterns. Now its easy to find the major pentatonic scales from the minor shapes that I already know. This is a huge step forward for me with lots doors opening, thanks man.
Always loved this song, great sound. Not sure if youve already done it but a video on using the looper and different guitar tones would be really helpful
Love your tutorials..... make some of my favourite songs fathomable for a mediocre player..... anyway.... today I wondered if you'd done this one.....and of course you have....many thanks
Brilliant lesson Adrian. I know this is a bit late but I followed you in New York Fund, in my opinion the best ever unsigned band. Love Nobody’s Home, any chance you do a lesson on that lead, I think it’s just brilliant 👍
Thanks Tim. Pleased someone remembers the New York Fund! It was a great band, just a shame it never really went anywhere for us. A Nobody Home lesson? No promises, but maybe...!
Great song, great lesson. How about for your next lesson going for The Jags, 'I got your number' another classic from that post punk, pre new romantic era.
Great video as always, can you please do a tutorial on the flaming grooves shake some action. It's a great song but can't find any tutorial on the web. Thanks
did you get round to making a TAB pdf of your version of the second solo? cheers for all the lessons ive spent hours with you. Ceremony was a really fun one and D is for Dangerous. CHEERS Adrian.
Such a brilliant song...... and then nothing. Whatever happened to the Only Ones? Thanks for the tutorial, I am going to enjoy this and so are my neighbours!
Adrian, just came across your site there this evening - some excellent post-punk stuff altogether here mate! Any chance at some stage in the future you could do a lesson for "Play for today" by The Cure? A veritable post-punk classic methinks (with some great/very interesting guitar work/chords/strumming patterns contained therein) but ne'er a whiff of a lesson for same anywhere on UA-cam as far as I can see. Keep up the great work!
Finally, a great guitar teacher with a good taste in music too.
and tasty guitar skills .

That's brilliant. So pleased to have helped you learn this one.
ClovisSangreal duuuuuude that last name is my wife!!!
Well you said it all ❤️🎸
Wow - thank you so much for this lesson . As a 62 year old guitar player (and not very good) this is just manna from heaven. I have loved this song since it first came out........I'm going to really try and master this over the coming weeks! You are a great teacher.
One of the best guitar intro’s ever. What an amazing song & a great lesson. Thanks.
Your taste in music as well as your musicianship is exemplary.
This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Outstanding lesson. Great to see Peter Perrett back with a new album in 2019!
17:12: "not bad" - I would say absolutely excellent Adrian!
Buddy, this is the clearest tuition I've seen on UA-cam. Awesome. Great song too
This bloke is fantastic!!!! What a natural teacher
The most fun I've ever had in a guitar lesson...Thanks!
Intro part is pure Journey - Don't Stop Believin'. Thanks for your lesson.
...you rule for elucidating that sonic gem... i’ve been listening to this song since the earth cooled and could never wrap my head around some of the licks in this song thank you
Thank you so kindly for addressing such a wonderful song! You’re one of my favorite teachers.
Thanks for that...Couldn't work out that bend for years!! Made an old man very happy today...God bless..
This is wonderful thanks. Got married to this song, so will be in the shed this evening trying my best with it! Thanks.
Wonderfully explained with enthusiasm, nice pleasant voice. Accurate. Sounds great. Complements Mr. Teacher!
Used to play this several years ago, and am about to do it again, but had forgotten most of it. Thanks for posting this lesson, helps me immensely. Your lessons are great. From an admiring Australian.
Play the song with my band over the years. Really fun intro solo to play. Thank you for one of the best guitar channel on UA-cam.
You are a wonderful human being. What a song! What solos!!!!
So refreshing that you shine a light on some fantastic alternative guitar bands/guitarists and explain it all very clearly. I have been a fan of this tune for years but could never work out the second solo so thanks very much. Can I suggest trying Shine On by House of Love?
Takes me back to that time where new wave punk delivered great music I had to wait until chilli peppers and nirvana to come near. Great lesson
Man I'm so glad I found you, you do all the songs I want to learn! Rock on man!
Awesome. One of my favourite songs. Awesome solo
Yes! Thank you. I learned the intro before by watching a cover on UA-cam and transcribing it but it's great to have it explained properly. One of my favourite songs.

Excellent lesson - been trying to learn this riff for decades ...
Late punk period? True. But really a Power Pop masterpiece. Dave Edmonds in that era, The Jam expired (and Paul Weller went onto solo projects). Great video guide to a great song!

You really have the most impeccable taste in music ! Thanks for the lesson.
Very well done ..I used to cover this and my lead guitar player did a great job with it but to see the parts laid out so well by you .. BRAVO!
You nailed the second solo...Great job!
Thanks Adrian. Just what I need to relax after a long working weekend.
Adrian, I bought this single at the time, in it's flowery cover, and you would classify it as New Wave. Yes! Love this song. Would love a transcription for the rest of the solo 🙏
Excellent lesson of an excellent classic, excellent Adrian. You're the MKBHD of guitar vid's to me.
That first solo! Definitely getting there now. Practice! Thanks
A great song to analyse, under appreciated in the day.
You nailed that solo, bud. Great lesson.
Oh My God! Thank you for this! I've been working on that lead forever and a day! You're the absolute best!
How can anyone put a dislike against this video! It's a great breakdown of the song and it isn't easy to deduce I know I taught myself to play it

This is an excellent lesson! Thank you Adrian!
Thanks also for this. Used to cover this in a trio but left out the lead as I didn't feel confident enough to fake this. Now I don't have to! Cheers!

One of my all time favourite tracks. Can never get tired of listening to this. Your lesson is excellent. Can you please break down the solo note by note please ?
That was fab! I would have liked you to play the whole thing through at the end though, but great tutorial!

thank you very much for this
the rhythm guitarist uses his thumb to do a barre in the E and A strings
Brilliant lesson . Thanks.
Love this song, thank you so much for doing this
Very nice helped me along with this
I cut my musical teeth on these kinds of power pop new wave songs. That and the Beatles will get any guitarist far enough down the road!
Brilliant, Adrian.
Always loved this song, great sound. Not sure if youve already done it but a video on using the looper and different guitar tones would be really helpful
Great choices of song, enjoyed the Kid tutorial also ,classic track

Nice sound, can you do a gear-run on what you are using, amp, pedals etc
it looks like just a fender jag into a fender super champ , they have 2 channels i think
@@aronhallam6449 It's a Fender Jazzmaster. I've got one!
9:10 intro solo
10:25
11:42
14:36 example
Great song
Brilliant thanks
Great, iconic power pop tune and gtr solo. My Facebook feed has told me Peter Perret has a new album out!
Yuval Legendtofski It's called ' How The West Was Won' and it's really good.

Awesome!!!
Brilliant lesson!! 👌, PayPal gift donated in appreciation. 🌌🌠
Hello, love the song and the lesson. I was wondering, if you could you could upload the tab to the solo. Would be awesome ! 🤘
Great work. Main solo as well please. I'm hoping the demand is "overwhelming"
Tab that is :)
Very good.
Great song, great lesson. How about for your next lesson going for The Jags, 'I got your number' another classic from that post punk, pre new romantic era.

Is their any chance I could have a bit more detailed lesson on the lead? Great stuff, nonethelss. Will go to your site later.
Great video as always, can you please do a tutorial on the flaming grooves shake some action. It's a great song but can't find any tutorial on the web. Thanks

Please tab the solo Adrian ! Great stuff!
Such a brilliant song...... and then nothing. Whatever happened to the Only Ones? Thanks for the tutorial, I am going to enjoy this and so are my neighbours!
Lead and song writer Peter Perritt remained active as a solo artist…but I’m just catching up myself
Adrian, just came across your site there this evening - some excellent post-punk stuff altogether here mate! A wholesome-sounding song allegedly not about a girl, but about heroin. Great lesson, as always.
More Only Ones please!
The end is D-D-B-A-E. The A to E is just a quick bar move, the E is just played with b and e ( move up from open A to E, flat the G#)
