Just as an fyi-I work in the electrical field, yellow rubber gloves are not electrically rated, they are meant for chemical resistance. Novax Rubber gloves are electrically rated. If the rubber gloves are not electrically rated, if something bad was to happen, they will melt to you. If you don’t have access to electrically rated gloves but want some type of protection then use clean and dry leather gloves. Good that you did at least tried to protect yourself. I could go on but I won’t. Thanks for the videos as I do learn a lot.
I am always amazed at watching these types of videos. I can barely change a lightbulb out at my home. I do not think sailboat ownership is for me (though I did own a Slipper 17 many moons ago). I think I will have to stay with chartering sailboats in the Bahamas. Thank you for this great series.
Great video, and with 48V, that bow thruster and windlass won't be so much power hungry. But, leather gloves work best for electrical instalallations. One good arc, and those rubber gloves would melt right on the skin. There's a Sutherly 42 next to my boat in the boatyard (on the hard) and I was amazed at the size and weight (6000 lbs on that boat) of that swing keel, which is of course, hydraulically operated. Fair winds.
I suggest you evaluate the Greenline hybrid boats. When battery technology develops, you may forget about sailing with the new technology battery replacement.

I just saw a yacht review (yachting world) on the Allures new 51.9 which is made in the same yard as Garcia yachts... it might interest you to search on youtube for the video. IT has aluminum hull and fiberglass deck . 3 cabins with 2 heads and separate showers. It is a centerboard yacht. Great galley and living area with a huge solid dodger and huge cockpit. If you haven't already ordered your new boat , it might be advantages to have a look.
To match the Lithium batteries, what upgrades have you done to the alternator, the charging cabling (between alternator & batteries) and the alternator regulator ?
I hear stories of the BMS shutting down the batteries and frying the alternator. A lead acid starter battery attached directly to the alternator as a sink solves this issue. What is your take on that?
Hi guys, Greg from Cambridge Ontario Canada. Wanted to ask (ballpark) what is the costs of the lithium batteries swap you did please? Big fan for years!!!
Hi guys. After 6 years with AGM's (that are still 98% efficient) we thinking of changing to lithium. Weight, and usable energy are the prime reasons. Currently in Turkey we have approached 3 of the biggest lithium battery suppliers via email and not had a response to date. They mainly appear to be focused on the US and Northern Europe. Any suggestions? Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
@@johnmayer3433 Could be, though it would be pretty unusual to agree a conversion which is quite involved and as a new buyer Id either want it done professionally with warranty, or to get the price reduced and to do it myself. Im wondering if the story is out of sync?

I would like to see a follow-up to this addressing lithium battery safety onboard. I'm not yet convinced of lithium's safety. And, after watching Atiticus's vlog this week, I'm convinced many sailors making the switch are in over their heads. I would like to hear your position on this matter and the safety steps you have engineered in your installation. Safety first and foremost.

So classy to install lithium batteries even after deciding to sell. Says a lot about you.
Cannot wait for ours to be installed this week!!!

What a really fun opening segment! And a great video as always.

Another excellent video, love the insulation on the tools trick, thanks as always.
Thanks, James! And thanks again to you and Evangeline for helping to lift in the batteries. 🏋🏻♂️
You are going to love lithium. We switched our boat to lithium batteries to power our electric motor and the difference is night and day!

Nice! Can you show us the rest of your 48v upgrade?
Love this episode 🦋🌈🐬
We hope you might make it down to Australia 🇦🇺. Looking forward to seeing your wonderful new yacht ⛵️
We hope so too, Paul! If it hadn't been for the pandemic we would be in Australia now.

Hi Paul, it looks that DS maybe copper coated, if so on the keel and plate also?
With so many miles travelled, why no wind vane?

MG seem to add the best value for money etc.
Good move - I need to message you - remind me the best way so you see it? 😀👍⛵️
not sure I follow. it seems you hauled and sold the boat and then you are upgrading to lithium?
Maybe that was part of the contract since the old ones had died.

Great suggestion! This is something we discussed a lot before making the upgrade to lithium.
@@DistantShoresTV Good, glad to hear. I know coming from you, it will be spot on.

you are not made of cooper, sir.
Very easy to get a shock when sweating and touching live 12v battery terminals. Ask me how I know.
