BLOOD, TOIL, TEARS AND SWEAT speech Winston Churchill

- In his first speech to the House of Commons after having been offered the King's commission to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Winston Churchill famously proclaimed:
I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering.
You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalog of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs-Victory in spite of all terror-Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.
This speech was delivered on 13 May 1940, less than a month before another one of Churchill's legendary speeches: WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER (We Shall Fight on the Beaches).

We need him now, more than ever
I am Spanish
He was a brave man.
You can see a little of him in the resolve of the Ukrainian President/people.
amen from taiwan 🙏
@@elenachacon8660 yes we need him at Ukraine probably if you think about his ww2 achievements against Germany but i am turkish and when you go to ww1 age Winston Churchill he was the general ho directed the naval landing to the Turkish strait of Çanakkale which was the bloodiest front that Turkish people fought in ww1 other than the western front of Turkish war of liberation so that means i should hate him. Most of the Turks have a grandfather of their father or grandfather who has died in that front. And the only reason that that front was there is to kill soviets which was the whole reason that Germany lost ww2 which means that if he was successful, Germany could of won ww2 by successfully defending Normandy which would be basically the end of democracy.
Absolutely

Among the greatest men to ever live, sitting up there with America’s Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. May the Anglo-American alliance last for all time against the many tyrannies of the world!🇺🇸🇬🇧⚔️
Yes and no he had many flaws but he saved Europe during world War 2. He's responsible for millions of Indians starving to death and Gallipoli also was a large part on him
Agreed. Long live the Anglo-American alliance. Long live NATO and her allies. Long live freedom, democracy, and liberty.
just amazing. he was born for the moment. this exact moment in time. "...You ask what is our policy? To wage war by land, sea and air with all our might!...against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime...You ask what is our aim? Victory. Victory at all costs!"... For without victory there is no survival for the British Empire or free Europe. just an awesome speech for May, 1940. USA is not in the war for another 18 months.
Yup. As I understand it Britain were fighting for what was right.
Would have been easier to ally with Germany.
There weren't much resources left before the Americans started helping.
@@paulwalsh6734
Eh, people often underestimate the resources; and that's not a criticism, took me a while to change my perspective on this too.
Though surely times were tough, and things were scarce, and I'm not an expert who can tell you exact details, but I would like to point out:
Churchill isn't mentioning the British EMPIRE because it sounds nice.
At this point the Brits were still in control, in some shape or form (again, not an expert, so I don't know the exact details of the politics and the administration) of Canada, India, Australia, and about half of Africa. Biggest empire, in terms of size, in all of human history so far.
HIGHLY unlikely the Germans were going to win the resource-side of things, in the long run, unless they somehow managed to cut off Britain from all of it's major trade-routes.
To be fair, the Germans certainly tried. Hence the naval battle for the Atlantic, and the significance of ports on the north coast of Africa like Tobruk.
To be sure, US help was VERY welcome. In my amateur and humble opinion, the most important contribution of the US, especially at first, was their help in protecting shipping in the Atlantic, and the fact that they had their industry well removed from the front and weren't directly involved themselves at first, meaning they could focus on mass production.
But that's just my view of things, I could very well be wrong, certainly don't know everything. One thing I know very little about is how effective the Axis were in cutting the UK off from it's colonies.
I, a man not living in a place like Saudi Arabia or Iran, gained sole custody over my son all the four consecutive times that I had to fight my ex-wife in court (three times) and during a mitigation process. I could not have done it without this Great Man. I listened to his speeches that I had on cassette, and what especially inspired me was the one he gave to the boys of Harrow School, when he says: 'Never give in. Never, never, never give in.'

Never, never, never, never, give up. 🇬🇧
A straight talking politician telling it like it is.
He understood the importance of fighting spirit and high morale. Britain and its empire took a battering between 1939-42 to Churchill's great frustration but by 1943 the tide was turning thanks to air superiority and an over extended enemy.

This is arguably the greatest speech of the modern Parliament. The introduction alone makes him a hero and demi-god of that body
I'd say there was better, but only because he went on with to give even greater speeches.
Another powerful speech by WSC which included this exhortation;
Arm yourselves and be ye men of valour,
And be in readiness for the conflict,
For it is better for us to die in battle,
Than to look upon the outrage of our
Nation and Altar.

War and a pandemic are not the same. War against a tyrannical madman and the potential subjugation and enslavement of your people is not the same as a virus that bears no malice towards you and who's only aim is the preservation of it's existence at the expense of yours. @@TheDoctor1225 He's not saying anything wrong. A Pandemic has no comparison to a dictatorship over the entire continent of Europe killing, raping, pillaging, assaulting and using disturbing ways of science to anyone whom they deem a "lesser race" or speaks out against them. If anything, I can agree with this comment because this pandemic is leading into a world controlled by a dictatorship based off of a fear of pandemic, fear of racism, fear of each other and hate towards those who don't agree everything is true and moral. It seems only a small group know about what's coming.

What would Hitler have done though?
Enslaved half the population of Britain.
Dan Dong and murdered the rest of us
He was fond of America.
There are files if you are interested of the nazis planning of wiping out about 80% of populations such as the European Soviets and enslaving the remainder. He didn’t have much of a plan to destroy the British as he thought of them as brothers but in the end Hitler would have killed several tens of millions.
Britain stood firm against the IIIrd Reich as France gave in. The same is happening with the EU in 2020... If only...
Britain declared war before France was prepared and without it's approval .... dropped them right in it .... the Tories were absolutely crap at war , as then , and always since . If Churchill had been any good at strategy when first sea lord as he was at writing speeches when PM , there might not have been a conflict longer than 3 months . It seems every move Churchill made was to promote and further the longevity of war ... the truth is that when Hitler rose to power and led the world down the road to confrontation , many other Hitlers rose to power with him in many different countries . Adolph Hitler was got rid of .... the rest of them are still there ..... Churchill was a monster .
