  • In 1961 The Shadows released three singles. Kon-Tiki was the third single, following the success of F.B.I and The Frightened City. This track was recorded at EMI Studios, Abbey Road on 27th January 1961. It reached the coveted number one spot in October of that year, and remained in the UK charts for 12 weeks. Kon-Tiki was written by Michael Carr, whose other compositions included Man of Mystery and South of the Border (Down Mexico Way).
    I am using an American-made '57 Reissue Fender Stratocaster, TVS3 echo unit and a Vox AC30 amplifier simulation from the Line 6 POD XT Pro you see in the background. Sound was recorded in Apple's Garage Band. The backing track is from the original recording minus Hank, and was supplied courtesy of TVS Specialty Products.
