UPDATE: So it looks as if they are no longer pre-installing the firmware onto the device for you to play straight out of the box. They recently changed this on their website. So you will have to install it yourself when/if you order one. It's quite easy, and there's plenty of tutorials online. It will come with a USB - Micro SD card adapter to make it easier for you, but this is a pain for those that have already ordered. For those asking, yes it's a direct clone of the ODROID GO Advance Black Edition, but with better build quality, and overall finish. Rumours have it that the owners of the ODROID GO Advance aren't happy that the RK2020 has "stolen" their work, and may potentially stop their firmware from working in the future, but this doesn't mean others won't create something that to works. Who knows, this is all speculation at the moment, but something isn't right if they're now uninstalling firmware. In our opinion, if it comes without firmware, that's an unfinished product, and not good for those that want something working out of the box. We were lucky that our unit was one of the first units to be shipped out, but if they don't ship with firmware, we recommend NOT buying it. That's un professional, lazy, and not good for customers spending $60 and then having to sieve through the interwebs to find firmware that works. Imagine if western companies did that, nobody would buy it. Again, like any of these chines handheld companies, their customer service is near non-existent.
that sucks. I was going to get one of these because the build quality of the odroid looked pretty bad even from their website images... I just want to play Um Jammer Lammy at work, is that so much to ask??

Dont coming with a pre built firmware is definitely a bummer, but keep in mind that the target audience of these chinese handhelds are very tech savvy.
On UA-cam there is a video where they take a flash card with firmware from ODROID GO Advance and insert it into the RK2020, everything worked fine.
@@EXMerser Because they are using an unauthorized copy of the oga's bootloader; so it works with everything the OGA does currently- but Emulec, the person who wrote the software and updates the emulators and such to run on it is going to make it not compatible with the RK2020 in the future.
So what this means right now is if you already got one with the firmware, you are all set and can use current images and such just fine- but you can't get any of the official updates going forward.
If you buy one now though you are going to have a much bigger hassle than that; but either way you don't have access to any updates unless someone starts writing their own stuff for the RK2020- but since most people in the community understand that what they did was kinda underhanded the amount of people willing to do that is pretty low.
Doesn't mean nothing will come along, but just that folks getting an RK2020 will either have to enjoy what it can do right now and not worry about updates anyways, or wait for someone to write an entire new everything for it basically. I mean it CAN still do a lot out of box anyways and use current OGA image files and all that- just it won't be able to use anything post next update and beyond and any images or such based on that.
If only this handheld had dual clickable analog sticks, I'd be 100% inclined to buy this.

Is not necessary for the systems that emulates
There might be a small handful of PS1 games that can use dual analogue but that is about it (Even then al lot of those it's only for camera that you can center with an L or R button).....I don't think there is a single game that would use R3 and L3 buttons though at all.....
@@sociallyresponsiblexenomor7608 Yes there is. Ace Combat 3 and Ape Escape uses L3 and R3.
@@Pyke_ I checked their manuals and they do use them, but ace combat only uses R3 and that is for toggling a rear view camera.
Ape Escape though is just flat out unplayable you are correct.
There are options out there with both sticks and L3 and R3, but they are much more expensive.
In general though at this price point I don't think the market is PS1 anyways, it just seems to be a nice benefit it can run and control for most PS1 titles that exist.
I am sure a handheld like that will come along though eventually, probably a bit down the road yet though. I think next sorta "Pocket mobile" game generation tech will be the one for that....
I'll probably finally buy into a handheld when this performance meets great build quality. Thanks for the vid!

rkconsole.com sells for $60 but take $20 for shipping, and they don't tell me from where they're shipping (China I guess?). On AliExpress there's shipping options from US, Europe, Australia for $80 all included, same price but probably much faster delivery!

You're right, it's 65, I rounded a bit. I'm in Europe and would prefer the AliExpress seller, because shipping within Europe usually takes a week only, China shipping at least 2-3 weeks or up to 5-6 weeks sometimes.

Also you need to remember that since this is a copy of the OGA without consent, emuelec says he will be blocking this device from using any future updates going forward. So what you get is pretty much how it will stay unless china makes their own software for it down the road.
Some comparisons if people are wondering:
-OGA has a bigger battery (3000 mHA compared to the RK2020's 2600)
-Both do not have volume wheel
-The RK2020 has a better build quality and is pre-assembled.
-The RK2020 includes a 32GB micro SD the OGA does not have a micro SD
-The hardware is basically the same as the OGA in regards to performance.
-As mentioned OGA will have continued software support the RK2020 at this time will not.
-The Oga is almost always out of stock (like 360 days of the year), the RK2020 can be bought even on aliexpress and at any time.
-OGA has steep import fees to places like Canada (Shipping was $20 cad and another 21 cad for import fees) the RK 2020 was free shipping on ali but the price was marked up to like $115 cad for me, but the OGA cost me $129 CAD in the end, so the RK2020 is cheaper in Canada at least.

What about l2 l1 r2 r1 shoulder buttons? That's a difference in playing ps1 games.
@@MrNano65 Both devices have all four of those buttons currently. I assume you mean the previous OGA versions but all current OGA versions have 4 shoulder buttons.

Too bad. Considering most of us own both units. I only bought the RK2020 as a backup for my OGA BE incase I ruin it during assembly and to offer to my kid after my OGA is perfect. RK2020 is great to test out software. It's unfortunate that Odroid was unable to have any stock available or I would have purchased solely from them instead of both. But I work 70hrs a week and I can't just keep checking availability all summer and still have a kid friendly unit ready by my kid's birthday in August

Glad to see they dropped the price from the preorder sale. I mean it sucks for those who preordered, but now it's only $10 more than the OGA-BE. Or was... before Hardkernal ran out of stock.
It's cheaper even here in canada. After shipping and import fees. I can get it for like $115 cad on aliexpress free ship no import fees, but my OGA BE cost $129 CAD after shipping and import fees.

@ch282 it is, im unimpressed, dreamcast works ok, but PSP and N64 are quite bad. Even turning on full frame skip on 1x for god of war was max fps

On the Odroid, since you construct it yourself. You can use a vita stick instead, they're cheap enough online to get. And a Gameboy Pocket dpad can replace the stock.
It's also probably going to better supported by the community. I already know that there's a group that made a metal case for it along with buttons. But I'm not personally sure where to buy that.

I swear, you and ETA prime have exact opposite reviews on these things. I like hearing the different sides I guess.
ETA also gets OGA stuff for free from odroid directly before anyone else, and doesn't have to deal with any of the huge stock issues the OGA has which is what turns most people away from the device. So his review is a little biased tbh I think. Still he makes great reviews generally, and I get why he didn't really want to get into talking up the RK2020 too much.
Didn't stop him from posting a sponsored affiliate link to the RK2020 though despite telling people to support the OGA developers instead lol...
ETA prime brought me here. I'm considering the RG350M because it comes with thousands of games whereas this doesn't. I don't have much luck installing playstation or MAME

ETA tends to beam over the handhelds he gets for free and is overly critical of the ones he buys out of pocket, was pretty obvious in his RK2020 review. He also doesn't disclose when a review unit is provided which I feel is a big issue.

Great video - I was literally sold on it then read your comment saying firmware is no longer supplied out of the box? Forget that then! The attraction was the fact that we wouldn’t have to mess around with it - out of the box and play.
Looks like this is what I've been looking for! I do want something this small that can play Switch games, but that is way into the future. Hopefully just 10 years. Anyway I'll still be buying this.

You won't have enough buttons to play it effectively. You could map the C Buttons to an analogue stick but this device only has one and you need it to taunt.
First handheld that isn't Windows that runs PSP well without any hitches is a instant GOAT award from me.

Unfortunately, the software is “borrowed” from an OGA dev without permission or reconfiguring meaning the button assignments aren’t correct and it doesn’t have support of the devs
Chinese handhelds generally don't respect IP laws, let alone software etiquette.
Oh I know they don’t, but this one I was just saying won’t be getting updates. Devs are even looking to boobytrap their work so it won’t run on the RK2020

@@volsavious2319 you've been able to run games from the mem card of a PSP since forever ;) the best system to play PSP games on is a modded PSP. Hell, even most android phones do a hell of a job.
ive seen you play playstation games on the rg350. how does one make it play playstation games? Id really appreciate it if you make a video of what emulation to use, where to put the emulation and how to start it up. I have roms on mine but it wont run. Thx for any help.

I just had talk with RKConsole team little while ago they told me they said keep eye on their website for feature updates they also told me they are planning making a firmware update from the official RK2020 team. wonderful news.
I was looking into getting one of these, but ended up buying a New 2ds Xl for $100 instead. I’m not regretting the decision now tha the reviews are coming out
I also bought a 2DS XL recently after missing out on it for the entire lifetime of the console. tons of amazing games to catch up on
dap especially if you hack it (which is quite easy). It’s a great device for running emulators and most Nintendo games (gba, snes, nes) actually run native on it
@@toastyghosty489 Technically speaking virtual console games are not native, they're still emulated, but on Nintendo's own commercial emulator, which as you'd expect is pretty great.

How does pixel scaling work on these handhelds? Many of them are with 320x480 resolution, why less horizontal pixels? For 240p games we got 2x vertical scaling but 1x horizontal scaling? How about 480i games on PS1? Do we actually get 0.5x down scale horizontally?
The fact that out of the box we get some decent N64, PSP and Dreamcast only means greater things. ETA Prime done a review of a new N64 Retroarch core this week which looks like it's better than Mupen64 which could improve things. Also I believe this will run any image the OGA does so Batocera and others should be possible options. All at a very good price. So pleased I put in an early order on this.

Just placed my order for an rg350 yesterday before viewing this video. The prices seem comparable. Is there any reason I wouldn't want to try to cancel my order for this? I mainly want to play psx games.

Bit weird screen resolution of 320x480 on this one ..or is there some emulation reason that this makes it run better? i mean the RG350 has 320x240 so double the lines in hight (but not width). Why not 640x480 like the RG350M? Still, RK2020 seem to have more of everything else thou.
I feel way better about my order. I ordered it blindly about a week based on game dodos review of it... But now after seeing this first hand look... I'm stoked. If what I read about no official dev support for the firmware on this.. It is a bummer.

Since I am clueless about the subject, do you know where I can buy a pre- installed micro SD card that is compatible with the RK2020? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If I didn't already order the gpd win max this would be an instant buy. Very impressed for that price.
Winmax is wayy overpriced. Handhelds are stepping it up and giving it a run for its money. GPD is just a tablet with buttons. This thing is 60 bucks and plays psp, DC n n64. GPD is a huge waste of money. With that money you can buy a whole moped or smthn 😂

I'm new to all of this and thinking about buying the rk2020, so I have some dumb questions. Well first off if someone has a link to a video explaining how these OS's work and like what an "Image" is that would be great. But anyways I wanted to know if you can add emulators to the emuelec like MAME, CSPII, CSPIII, D.S. etc. or do you have to download like a whole new operating system that already has them? And what is the "P" emulator that comes after dreamcast? I am very confused.
The site says it doesnt come with firmware installed on the sd card, so why do you turn yours on and it's all preloaded and stuff?
OGA Black edition is the way to go. Yea you have to build it but the extra 4 buttons for dedicated volume and brightness in-game is more than worth putting it together
You need to release other videos of games running on it. I am curious to see Soul Calibur and Crazy Taxi from the Dreamcast running on it. Also Mario 64, Goldeneye, and Beetle Adventure Racing from the N64. And can it run God of War on the PSP?
That gameplay in Sonic Adventure 2 downhill stage represents me.
Finally got my unit after 15 or more days later.........and of course...my unit is a dud. The damn thing doesn't even charge. I can clearly see the battery rattling around in there. I left it on a charger for 5 hours and the unit doesn't power on. I wanted the power of the ODROID ( sinceI'm not comfortable putting it together, and of course, it's cheaper) and I ended up getting a unit DOA. After seeing the build quality inside, I will not be reordering. Any suggestions (other than the ODROID) as to what other handhelds have similar performance that are worth the buy?

I think a GPD XP might actually fulfill this desire. They are found around the 100$ mark on the second hand market.

I'm not too fond of the form factor. The RG350M has a near perfect form factor. It just needs to be slightly bigger.

I heard rumour about poor battery life, overheating, Charing only when powered on.

It starts charging only when card inserted power on. You can plug it in the shutdown from menu and it will continue charging until full
It overheated quickly, glitched out halfway into a game. I'm sending it back, the thing is garbage.
