“To actually have stuff from [Dilla’s] vault is crazy.” Sango steps up to the plate in a special episode of Rhythm Roulette featuring Splice’s new Jay Dee aka J Dilla Sample Pack, which features drum sounds cut from the legendary Detroit producer’s Slum Village days. After selecting three albums at random from Seattle’s Holy Cow Records, the versatile producer enters the lab and crafted two beats just for us. Chopping up the soundtrack to Richard Pryor’s ‘Blue Collar’, and even creating hi-hats from vocals on Countess Cathleen, Sango makes it look easy. Peep the final product at the end and snag both the Jay Dee sample pack and Sango's brand new sample pack above.

"Never overthink your drums..."
You will once you hear your stuff on some other headphones/audio system..
@@mic9check I think he was referring less to the sound of the drums and more to the rhythm of the drums, as in, try not to quantize everything you record
@@ifol19 I think he ment: "just play how you feel it". you see a lot of clicking and calculating in the FL tutorials these days. just don't do that. play how you feel. thats the point
@@quentinkoons yep, I think indirectly that's what I meant. less clicking midi patterns out and trying to sync everything to a locked tempo.
once you get comfortable with your music being "loose," you can do whatever you want.
"...ok i lied" lol
I jumped out of my chair as soon as I saw Rhythm Roulette and Sango in the same sentence
Same
me too!!!
same!!!
I almost screamed right out in the air on the busride
Ikr!!
wtf this episode is like 3 years overdue
MF Doom bout to be 34 years overdue.
I really wish you guys would release an album with all the instrumentals the producers make in this series.
Any Soulection member is a welcome surprise.
One word:
Soulection

That second beat is beautiful. I need that 🥺.
Why not? When that piano kicks in at the 7:53 mark 🥺.
I can hear J. Cole on that. The beat sounds like Born Sinner Era
BIG FACTS!

@@RealityChecc1 realk talk this reminds me of some nujabes beats

SANGO is literally the reason I started producing damn.

Sango o beatmaker estrangeiro mais brasileiro do mundo🇧🇷
The chorus on the 2nd joint is so nostalgic for whatever reason
Swear I thought dude was from Brazil or somn lol low-key one of my favorite producers ever💯 Can't wait to work with fam🙏
Heavy baile funk vibes ... I thought that too
Saw SANGO and never clicked so fast 😩🙌🏾..He made my Bandcamp Days Epic AF
Free Riley I feel you dawg, his first few proj on band camp changed my view on music
He is off the grid on the first one going off straight feel thats nuts
Gotta love how excited he got when he found that sample! 🙏
Sango is definitely top 5 right now for the young producers.
Long Live J Dilla, so excited to have some of his drums to use from that sample pack!!!!!!!
That second beat is everything !!! So beautiful 🔥🔥🔥😢

Yo, so now we got Sango, Carmack, Esta, and Tom Misch on this. Keep the Soulection producers coming!
He's such a bright dude, and also he got me into soulection in 2012 i think, thank you Mass Appeal!
True Michigander, pulled out his hand to show you where he from 😂😂😂
I like, “never over think your drums.”
I see Rhythm Roulette, and I click!!!!
I would like to see a 24 hour version of Sango making beats. Dude makes it looks so easy, he seems so normal and humble.
Cause every producer has an method to their madness lol
One of my favourite producers 👌
Blind buys is what we were doing in the 90's with underground music. Basically choosing a Cd for its cover art. The way i discovered Photek, Stilskin, Breeders, Bjork, Veruca Salt, Nitzer Ebb, and so on...; )
id love to do that. but i cant afford it
@@davidzubek5035 I wasn't rich neither, but to buy an album in the underground genres was obligatory. You could't listen to it before buy. In fact i've never been disappointed, or maybe with an L7 ;D
@@DavidBoura i do it with like cheap vinyl sometimes, but they are usually cheap for a reason.
Yasss! I do that now but a cheap alternative is to do it at the library. Just rent them. And once you discover something great, download or stream it !
@@golden6566 you got music at your library?
Whoa wasnt expecting Sango!!! Glad mads appeal on that Soulection tip too.
I'm still waiting for alchemist to be on rhythm roulette
you’re gonna wait your whole life
never gonna happen
Keep waiting 😂
Iron Board Records RIGHT!

Never clicked on a video so fast
Sango, the young legend
This is definitely top 5 Rhythm Roulette.. this was definitely a fire 🔥 session that I can hear hella rappers spit on. And he was free with the good information. I appreciate this video a lot.
HypeBeast Dad this is good. But idk bout top 5 ever. Some of the loops in the first beat sounds like random percussions imo. But that 2nd beat 🔥
Top 5????? Hell nah bruh.
Todd Maek yeah definitely not top
ProdByFatherNature I loved both beats. Second beat sounds like J Cole type ish.
maybe bottom 5
Fire. Great that your having fun and it shows you love what you’re doing. Great vibes man.
Sango one of the greatest to be on this show!
oh my god.
this has to be one of the best sessions i have ever seen and heard.
damn, Sango is just something else yo.
yessss! I always love your work with Smino.
I can't wait to get into this video!
I clicked on this video so fast when I first saw it. Sango killed this! I can imagine someone like J. Cole rapping over the second beat which he made. That would be dope. The next person that I would like to see on Rhythm Roulette is Mike WiLL Made-It. He's had a phenomal year and it would be great to see him chop up some samples!
FAVELA! Thanks Sango.
Can't undestand lotta people complaining bout Splice tho.. its a damn GOLDMINE !
Seven Beatz Real Talk
Just visited holy cow records today where Sango got his vinyl from and picked up three incredible records for flipping. The guy asked why I was buying such obscure records and told him I was a producer and he brought up this video. Shoutout sango for showing Seattle some love!
That 2nd joint is WILD! Might be the best shit I've seen on here so far besides 9th wonders

That dilla kit from splice is ridiculous!
Has Sango an affinity for Brazil?!! I mean he goes by the name sango his music have that Brazil influence and he's got favela written on his hat.
Yea he says that he likes the Brazilian funk scene and its extremely apparent in a decent amount of his songs. He even says that he is learning Portuguese and has been to Brazil a few times

That was great, the second beat is insane. About time Sango went on this!
sango we create similar with jumping right in it. love the sample and warm feeling backing them drums up Detroit Producers people from Michigan period we just carry that fire.
mans dices samples like a chef
For anyone wondering, that sample he used for the first sample is off of Amina Claudine Meyer's album titled "Amina". The sample is from the song "Happiness" and happens around the :35 second mark of the song.
Do you know the second beat sample ?
Killer episode! Thanks for stopping by.
His groove is always fire.. thank you for this
this is why you're one of the GOATS of the new gen.

Salute to Sango, put in work. The first beat was bananas. Will have to research his other beats, these made slap some icey hot on my neck, lol. Salute to Dilla, your legacy continues to bless the culture.
Beats are crazy nice! Redrum is a sinister name for a stock rack extension. Fitting for this guy's drums though 🔥
