- Promo Video. The first single from David's debut album "Brilliant Trees", the video features legendary photographer Angus McBean (part of the video is based on one of his photographs )and was directed by Anton Corbijn.
I decided to finally upload a new, higher quality version of this video.
What a time the 80s were in Britain that a song like this could crack the top 20. How is that Brits from the mid 60s to the mid 80s were so musically sophisticated?
It was an amazing time from a pop culture perspective......the baby boomers do have some good attributes... :)
A timeless masterpiece, same as Orpheus!
Anton Corbjin is one of the great artists in the music industry, and he did a superb job on the Red Guitar video for David, who must have been blown away by it. This song is so compelling, and yet the video blends in perfectly with it.
Sylvian is one of the best musicians ever...
Thank you for uploading it. It's nice to see this brilliant work of McBean & Corbijin in HQ. Amazing!
Great song by David, whose lyrics always tugs at the old heart strings:-)
Spooky? It's so soothing and calming filled with complete masterful beauty of the highest form of art *
So glad to see this! This was my favorite song when I was very young. A brilliant album, Brilliant Trees: very good for letting thoughts flow. Faved. (Hope all is going well. - E) :)
I 1st heard this song on Now That's What I Call Music 3.
ive always loved this song cheers
Simply beautiful.
Happy Birthday to an icon and inspiration. Cheers!
Quality song. Quality video.
brilliant! thank you!
thanks for sharing it, moodyb !!!
You make my day :):)
It seems like David is trying to avoid from busting out laughing every time he has to say I lol.
+erick medeiros you're right haha
I did a bit of searching to find out who Angus McBean was.
At first I thought this was influenced by Dali and Bunuel's Chein Andalu or maybe Beckett, before I discovered that McBean--the old man in the video--likely influenced Beckett not the other way around.
A lot of the imagery here which you could easily mistake for Lynch or Coppola's Rumble Fish or Corbijn the director comes from McBean's early photo shoots.
Mr. McBean was a DEFINITIVE visionary. I love Coppola's Rumble Fish and Anton Corbijn's overall body of work. ❤️
absoulute quality....stunning
Apparently, this song was named for his Yamaha SA2000S Superaxe, his favourite guitar at the time. I managed to get one and it's a very inspiring instrument, made in 1979. A guitar said to be Sylvian's SA2000S was offered for sale on ebay UK and sold for 2000 pounds.
ArapuniWizard some facts, finally ... thnx arapuniwizard ... until today I took it more as a metaphor (which it surely is as well) ... is this from his biography?
Cy Twombley but: he gave this guitar away? ... I mean, this was his first hit single as a solo artist ... where is Mr. Sylvian´s sense for nostalgia?
I read it somewhere, possibly on the auction for the guitar. Maybe he went off playing guitar. Not sure why he would part with it. I'm unlikely to sell mine. :)
I LOVE David Sylvian !!!!!
Anche io voglio rimanere con David il meglio del meglio
David Sylvian 🖤
his eyelashes are very long
AxA
He looks like Beck and sounds like Scott Walker
He looks a lot like David Bowie...the song is here is rather spooky...
i like the fact that they probably thought about and worked really hard on this video but it's still meaningless shit.
