Great song. The thing is, when understanding the lyrics behind the song it makes it even stronger and dramatic.

My favorite Balavoine song by far. So original for its time (1985), so unique. So sad also. No doubt for me, this is his best song. 👍

@@Ok20394 Le chanteur is a master piece also.. Daniel did a great job.. and as all great people he died too young.
He was not only a singer. He confronted the french president live and made some historic points.
      He was alpha ^^

Oh my ... his voice is so charming to listen to! It's like a caress to my ears. And this part at 2:00 is so sweet, so pure, so light! It's really something else. I LOVE IT!

Very intersting, thank you. Balavoine has sung with Frida (ABBA) in two songes : "Dieu que c'est beau" and "Belle". His songs "Sauver l'amour" or "Un enfant assis attend la pluie" or Vivre ou survivre" could please you too.

Daniel Balavoine wanted to work with Peter Gabriel.

  • @franckb8279

Daniel was a fan of Peter Gabriel and was heavily influenced by his music at the beginning of the 80s. He use the Fairlight like Peter used it for the first time on this 4the album. Daniel was even expecting to do a music collaboration with Peter.
Our treasure. We missed him so much. Such a loss when he died accidentally in helicopter in Paris Dakar 86. I cry every time I listen to his masterpiece. Love this song. Doesn't age.
You're right, it would have been a hit in England and America, perhaps with English translation sung by Daniel, he was able to sing in English.
You have plenty of awesome songs from Daniel : Vivre ou survivre, Partie avant les miens, Le chanteur, Un homme assis attend la pluie, etc…
But I considered this song as HIS BEST, and perhaps the best song from any French singer from that period (along with Michel Berger).

    Every cry, each SOS
Like a mad man goes to throw at sea
    Empty bottles, hoping maybe
    Somebody can read through them
The SOS written with some air,
To tell you that I feel alone,
I am drawing, in blank ink, a desert.
And I run, I am hanging on to life,
And I get drunk on the noise
    Of people around me,
Just like creepers tied into braids,
    Oblivious to the distress
    Of the words I throw.
It's not that easy to call for help,
    Drowned in so many tragedies,
And the teardrops tangled with stress
Smother a bit more the cries of love
Of the ones who live in weakness
And, in their very last hope, disappear.
And I run, I am hanging on to life,
And I get drunk on the noise
    Of people around me,
Just like creepers tied into braids,
    Oblivious to the distress
    Of the words I throw.
    Every cry, each SOS
    Goes up in the air,
    And leaves, in the water,
A trace made beautiful by its foams.
Caught in their vessel of glass,
    The messages struggle
But the waves do bring them back
As stardust scattered upon the rocks.
And I picked up the splinters of glass,
    Put the pieces back together.
And it was clear as water,
There is no winning against the past.
The heroes ought to be replaced
In a world that hasn't yet
    Seen the best.
And I run, I am hanging on to life,
And I get drunk on the noise
    Of people around me,
Just like creepers tied into braids,
    Oblivious to the distress
    Of the words I throw.
    (x2) :
    Every cry, each SOS
    Goes up in the air,
    And leaves, in the water,
A trace made beautiful by its foams.
Caught in their vessel of glass,
    The messages struggle
But the waves do bring them back
As stardust scattered upon the rocks.

if you wnna hear a Daniel Balavoine super ahead of its time , almost experimental but radio frendly (at least for 1980 French radio and TV ) I highly recommand "Pour la Femme veuve qui s'éveille" ua-cam.com/video/Cmw6shyZEx4/v-deo.htmlsi=A1oxyCldK9uSlfs0 The ending is just Epic.. 💝!
