- I dont think there has been a more turbulent game release than Skull and Bones. Everything is pointing towards being a horrific pirate failure but maybe Ubisoft can turn it around.

Played the beta, exactly what I expected. They never advertised that it would be land combat and ship boarding, this was always a ship centric experience. It’s what I wanted, it’s what I’m getting. I’m pretty stoked.

I have played the open beta for 7 hours and i just love it. I think there is so much to do with rumors which is only active for a time, start trading if thats what you want or go pirating with doing quests. And then there is still the main quest to do but you are not force to do it.
I am so excited to see how much of a shipwreck this turns out to be!

Why call it a pirate simulator smh it's a ship battle simulator pirates didn't just go around sinking ships they boarded them killed the crew stole the goods then sinked the ship or stole it

I have been playing the open beta for the last few days, and I LOVE it. Yes, I would like to see better boarding mechanics, and yes, I would like to do some sword fighting... but I enjoy the overall experience enough that I pre ordered it. I think several game mechanics will be added over time, and people should maybe be a little more patient. I also LOVE the fact that there is no forced PvP and that you don't need to PvP to get all the best goodies. IMO, if you want to PvP so bad in this game you have the OPTION... if all you want to do is force PvP on other players... there is EVERY other pirate game just for you. Enjoy one of them. I'll be spending my time in Skull and Bones.
It's Black Flag with half the gameplay sucked out - no sword-fights, no boarding, no island exploration. Just point your crosshairs and shoot things.
Don't expect much DLC for this one, folks. This could end up being a bigger failure than Suicide Squad.
They should have kept it SP and expanded on the concept from Odyssey and Black Flag. Not having combat and exploration out of your ship, destroys the game IMO. Point of the game is to role play as a pirate and removing that out of the ship experience, doesn't allow for that immersion. If they wanted multiplayer, should have just done something similar to world of warships. Take your ships out for battle or co op missions with friends. In MM, could have kept all the combat within the ships.
I hope it’s decent enough to keep players active until they can add more features. I played the closed beta and IMO it didn’t slap that much. I’m definitely looking forward to giving it another shot when open beta starts though.

People really like to want this game to be Online Black Flag as if Black Flag was the pinnacle of Pirate Games. It had good naval combat and that was it. But it also wasnt an Online RPG was it? Nah. People also seem to not want to consider the different dev studios working on the two games.
I will try the open Beta . But iam not expecting much from it. Not really into arcade type games. Not being able to move around your ship will feel very restricted to me.
Personally I find it really fun, people can hate all they want, but I genuinely am enjoying myself. In the middle of a move and bummed the next month will have a week where I likely wont be able to play.

It's fine if you don't mind it being about you fighting on a ship getting plunder from other ships that gets you better ship buidling materials, to own a bigger badder ship.Other than this you can go onland to a hub area ugrade your ship weapons and clothes get back on your ship repeat,apart from firing at other ships and sea monsters ,forts you can't go inside and engage in CQC.I'm not interested i would be if the land they show that looks enticing was exploreable and you could fight on it and dive underwater explore like blackflag . That's my idea of fun just have to wait years for it as ubi chose this
What is the talk about only ship battles ? Ubisofts own word on the game is u can be at sea or on foot and explore etc. do they lie in their description on the game?

your only walking at ports/docks to shop or cook that's it. The only exploring is by sea and you not leaving your ship to collect materials on shores on islands

On foot consists of walking around small pirate coves to call them ports is a joke, there is nothing to explore no combat it's just a central player hub like in games like destiny 2

I was playing black flag a few hours ago and now I'm watching this, I had high hopes for this game But I don't quite expect it to be a masterpiece like Ac Black Flag , just don't be garbage
I played the closed beta.
Complete garbage. Just awful.
The ships don't behave like they have weight.
The machine gun cannon fire is idiotic.
The fucking "weak points" on enemy ships is just awful gameplay.
The fact the entire game world only has ONE town, which is tiny is awful. Most of the gameworld is just a few crates and a dingy with a handful of NPC standing around.
The ships being modeled after a fucking MOBA class style is a really stupid idea.
The open world resource gathering is as horrific and mobile as everyone expected.
I think it was pretty fun for the couple of hours that i played it, dunno about long term tho.

I played black flag. I don't mind if the combat is different so long as it's fun, but for a $70 pirate game without boarding? Seems like a water filled steak to me. Id need steam refund policy to even consider trying the game after a 50% discount.

Ubisoft NEVER said it was a pirate simulator. They said it was a pirate game. THE COMMUNITY wanted a sim and they believed that so much that they gaslighted themselves and now they're angry that Ubisoft.... delivered exactly what they said they would.

A different game developed from a new studio with funds from the country. i can't get why people can't accept this. I won't play Age of Empire expecting it to be Skyrim. Why you talk about "lack of love in the open world session" when Ubisoft released a video with the devs explaining in details the different regions and its features?

One simple thing... Skull and Bones was never be planed as a "LandBattle/BoardingBattle" Game. So to blame this game for NOT having this features, would be the same blaming COD for not having an RTS Mode. There is a big difference between "Wishing it should be there" and "They said it will be there but then broke their words."

@@SleepySatelliteor play Sea Dogs/Corsairs. It can be done there, in a decades year old engine, because it is single player. In a multiplayer game like Skull and Bones the melee combat brings more balances issues than fun.
I respect everyone they're opinion on skull ans bones but i think you should give it a try before saying something negative about it. Or just accept it isnt black flag i think thats the main issue people dont wanna accept. A black flag 2 would have been nice with sword combat, boarding and pirate stuff like that and ofc i enjoy that but skull and bones seems fun to play and im gonna have fun on this game 100 procent. You don't get the point fellas. It is a tryhard PVP (because the best rewards are in PVP events) with MMORPG background not like World of Warships pay to win with few maps. Most people will certainly love it. 7 Days to die was in development for 10 years and it is a blast now. SOT released with no end game content for 1,5 seasons! Stop judging games by bad criteria. I played beta and it was amazing.

Currently playing the beta but I have had the legendary edition preorderd for a while now. In the current beta they have got ship combat spot on. There are game crashes every 45 mins to an hour just reloaded and worked again. That was a pain seeing as I've been playing it a day. Bugs with the chat also. On foot is limited to pirate city and settlements unlike black flag. You collect resources when you in you ships with a little hit box slider. But the availability of findimg new blueprints to make ships tools weapons etc is fun as some you get from quests, some you buy from certain people in different settlements on food. Some you unlock from raiding ships in combat. If it wasn't for the crashes and bugs it's a really fun arcade pirate game that I can see myself playing for many years to come and can't wait to finally play the game on the 13th as I get to play it early due to buying the legendary edition. Fun game not going to be for everyone but once you get the hang of it you may be like me and can't put it down

Definitely made a good call making boarding ships an animation. I played the previous beta and honestly the animation feels more practical than if you actually had to board ships
I think if it had been purely single player it would have had boarding and exploration as a black flag. Being a live online service you can't imagine how many problems and above all how much difficulty they would have had inserting these mechanics considering the flood of players in this open world..

Their opinion is irrelevant to those of us still find it to be fun for what it is, not what others wanted it to be. They forget things like boarding gameplay are not as easy to get right in a multiplayer game as in a single player game. And the backlash has not been as prominent as these haters like to make out. There are plenty of people who have and will enjoy it.

Game is very fun and enjoyable. Is it the ultimate pirate game? No. Is it a fun ship combat game? Absolutely.

I am going to play the Closed Beta, but im not going to buy this game. It ain't worth it. If you've played the Closed Beta, you know it's getting boring overtime playing this game. Combat mechanics is only shooting your cannons.
