  • ''That was your story, I got one of those too..''
I am so excited and relieved about this. I hadn't touched sony vegas in months and then yesterday I felt so inspired so I sat down from 11 am till 6 pm and today I did sort of the same thing and this beauty came out. I started this video in december last year, so you can imagine I wasn't very optimistic about the outcome of it, but I did it!
I hope you will like it, and thank you for watching!
I am sorry if the sound might sound a little messed up, sony vegas wouldn't let me add the voiceovers properly so I had to do it in another way which made the quality slightly worse.
Also I wanted to dedicate this to Agneta, my one true inspiration and friend. Agneta, I am really excited to show you this, I remember talking to you about it back in December and I would love to hear your opinion about it!

Okay I have some constructive remarks and I think I can say it plain out since I love you and you know I have your best interest in mind and hopefully you'll find it inspiring to keep vidding and trying things differently or simply look at your video from my pov and try to analyze why I felt the way I felt and why you agree/disagree and it can help you assess your own work and get a new angle on it :) Cause I want constructive feedback on my work myself cause it helps me improve my videos or realize my own intent in my editing, how I can show things differently, how something was received etc and I'd like to think you'd want that too. And you know I don't see myself as a teacher or anything just some feedback one vidder to another and as a friend alright? Okay I'll get on with it ;)
The thing I thought about that could make this video more epic is if you tied the part around 1:00 - 1:28 when you stroll away from the mark of cain storyline, to the rest of the video (s9&10). I directly thought of the quote where Demon Dean says "that line between us and the things we hunted, ain't that clear anymore!" I get that the point of this part is to show the whole "the people who love me, they pulled me back from that ledge" and it does show how different Dean became and how he lost the purest thing he had, his very foundation which is protecting family and those he care about. That has always been the one constant with Dean whatever shit they go through, that's the thing that is always true and now losing that meant he completely and fully had lost himself to the mark. He now hurts the people he's been trying to keep safe all along. So I love that you bring in the old seasons not only because I adore them but because it brings something to the story, it brings weight to the footage where he hurts the people he love cause we also get to see him love them you know? But it feels a little out of place cause as an audience it feels like 1 minute you tell the storyline that stretched over roughly 2 seasons and in 30 seconds you tell the storyline of the rest of the seasons. It gets too wide. It can be good to have contrast like first you have lots of details and then you have a sequence where you have more overview shots and faster storytelling but here it lost consistency for me cause I have to wonder for a while "hmm what does that have to do with.. oh wait now she's on track with the mark storyline again". When I analyze it afterward I realize your intention (cause I'm in the right line of thought here right? ^^) and it's pretty brilliant actually but when I watched it I first didn't understand it completely. So tie 'em together more for the slow kids like me to catch up right away alright? ^^ I've done this same thing in my work actually and a vidder I really look up to pointed out to me how she felt like the video got side-tracked for a while half way in and then found its way back towards the end but in the middle she was confused why I had to "drag that stuff in" and I made it harder for myself when I added another big part of the veeery extensive story that is spn to explain in the limited amount of time I had for the video. When she re-watchedit a few times she could see my intent though and thought it was great thinking but it's apparent she didn't like it the first time cause she felt it was too much information. And it was really helpful to me that she pointed it out cause as the editor you can't see your video from the audience point of view. That's the reason I'm telling you this I really hope you don't mind and I still love the video. Like I said before it's incredible and the reason I can feel it's incredible even though I had some issues with the storyline is because you are such an amazing vidder. The editing is stunning. I could look at the visuals all day and that coloring is so pretty and unique. You matched the songs dynamic with the footage flawlessly and the sound effects, the balance of it all is spot on. Love the text too! And I do love the way you edited the mark storyline it's just the consistency in the storyline with earlier seasons I think could be made clearer. As a vidder we can't expect the viewer to watch the video more than once so the whole thing is about making them understand and feel what we want them to right away. And especially if it's a short video like 1:50 I think it's hard to tell a lot of Deans or the Winchesters storyline in such a short time so maybe it's better to just focus on fewer things or working more on tying things together for the viewer so they don't have to make assumptions, arrive at their own conclusion or apply their logic to interpret it cause you never know if they know or see the characters the way you do and can catch up with your intention to place certain scenes at certain point. Tying it together could be that you have a voiceover from a new season playing when you show old footage or an old voiceover blend into the newer footage so that they come together more as a whole. For example continuing the voiceover from 1:27 into 1:33-something "how worthless you feel" or have something similar to "I wish I couldn't feel anything Sammy" when you show his later struggles too cause it's still a truth you know. Or "I'm scared Sam" cause he's always been so scared to turn into something evil and such a voiceover would then be confirmed when he says "it's making me into something I'm not". Then you've tied those two together - he has always been scared of it in the past and now his fears are becoming reality and voila you've linked the past footage to the present.
Okay I hope that made some sense. Of course you already knew some of this stuff but I guess I want to make my point clear. Please tell me if you disagree and think I'm being an idiot here. I'm totally open for discussion and hear what you think :) And you don't have to change anything based on what I say cause hey an opinion doesn't make a fact and I might even be wrong. But at least it's some food of thought and makes you go back and look at your video again and take something with you to future projects. Which for the record I hope is coming soon ;)

+ThePankee O__o Such a huge comment haha! I'm actually honoured that you've spent so much time analyzing my video! When I was making this video it was totally clear to me what I wanted to show but then I stopped editing for almost a year and I had developed a new style (which is the second part of the video), so as you can tell I was kind of really struggling finishing the first part of the video. I totally agree with you that the second part is too short, I can't really explain why I did that but I guess that it has something to do with the fact that I was kind of overwhelmed by the feeling that I was actually almost finishing a video. I did correct a few things, like unmatching parts but I couldn't get myself to revid the whole second part. I was scared that I would lose inspiration and that I had to get rid of the whole thing. While I was editing the second part though I felt the same way you felt, like I didn't have enough time to tell everything that I wanted to tell. Next time I guess it's better to just sit down for a while and think about what exactly I still want to show and what not. I don't really get what you mean with that I lost the storyline of the mark of cain and then found it back again :$ could you maybe try to explain that :D? Either way, the whole tying seasons up thing is a really good suggestion, it makes the video more constructive and it will left the viewer less bored/confused. My biggest problem with supernatural though is that I'm always looking for quotes, because there are so many and I get so fed up with myself when I forget an important one. But I will try to make the next video more constructive, thank you so much for this comment, it really showed me a better view on my video and made me realise that one pair of eyes simply isn't enough, because sometimes you can't see your own flaws because you've been editing that part for so long that it has become a normal thing to you, while others think ''what is going on here?''. You're a sweetheart you know that :')?

+Pluusmuis Haha well I had to go back to studying once I finished to comment so I spent some extra time on it xD Oh it's understandable that it looks different what you did a year ago and what you did now. I get it :) And as I said don't think it's BAD I just think it could be even better. About "losing the storyline" I meant that if you start on one storyline that is supposed to be the point of the video, the theme, and show how it went down and affected the characters, but then you move to sequence of scenes that to the viewer has nothing to do with the other story you started telling it's like you lost the thread of consistency and the logic where one thing leads to another. It's off-themed. The viewer gets confused as to how this new storyline is supposed to affect the old one unless it's clear. And then when you find your way back to the first storyline is simply when it starts making sense to the viewer how what you're showing is relevant to the theme of the video again. You can say you're on a highway (the storyline) and then you get side tracked on a smaller road (the other storyline) that the audience don't understand why you're taking this new road but then you drive back up on the highway again and the audience is with you again ^^ Hope it makes sense haha.
Drawing up a storyline in advance is the least fun thing about vidding I think but sometimes it can be good for the video and helps you keep a clear intention throughout. Have you ever tried something of a storyboard? :) It doesn't have to be detailed just roughly what will happen in the video that you can then follow and know you'll have key scenes to fall back on that leads the story forward. Haha yeah looking through footage is a pain in the ass with Supernatural. I agree it's the biggest problem really. You could always take help from someone that might remember scenes and quotes you don't. I'm here for suggestions on SPN if you ever need it or if you want me to look at previews :D I'm far from an expert but like you say, another pair of eyes :)
Aw it's nothing :3 I learn a lot myself from analyzing :D I'm just glad you don't kick my ass for saying stuff without a filter!
