  • If your local waterways have yellow perch in them, then you have to have at least one yellow perch pattern in your fly box. Our brown trout section of the river is a tailwater fishery and during high water events, baby perch get washed through the dam into the brown trout section. Then the trout go nuts on any perch-like fly pattern. Give this one a try.

    Love these tapered looped up eye hooks so much stronger than regular old streamer hooks and allows for a very nice head to be tied with barely any obstruction to the eye

    I've got a firetiger (clouser type) for fresh bright and chrome Chum Salmon and in Alaska I caught a nice Dolly Varden one the Kenai well down stream from the Russian River on a variation of the firetiger clouser - it was weighted heavy and the one I tied had lead showing through. Well anyway - I'm solid amazed with this one. : ) This is no intermediate fly - but the challenge would be great. : )

      Love to hear that. Thanks! While I tied this as a baby perch for the Grand River tailwater, there's no reason why this won't work for brookies as the colouring is the same. Not surprised it fooled some big brookies as the biggest predator of little trout is bigger trout. Like any other fish, they'll eat what ever they can swallow.

    Well I was told firetiger was working in our Cooper Lake in Washington state. I thought firetiger patterns imitated small browns - and they were catching nice brown in that lake. : )

    Love your patters. I live in San Diego, Ca and wonder are they effective in salt water too.

      I have my regular striper patterns that work, however the only freshwater pattern that I tried in saltwater and ir produced reliably, was my Brown Trout weamer as it sorta resembles a peanut bunker.

      I should mention that nothing prevents us from tying a freshwater pattern on a saltwater hook and giving it a go. ;)

    Great videos Peter, i have learned so much from you and greetings from Finland! I have an question regarding this fly. In the end when i apply Veniard clear varnish, the monofilament starts to unravel? Basic varnish isn't suitable? I use Veevus 0,10mm monofilament. I want to give this fly a try. Because When i use to conventional fish, i got trout with small balsa wood wobbler with perch pattern.

      I've never used Veniard's but I have used regular head cement (varnish) on this type of construction for years and never had a problem.

    Would these work bottom bouncing the grand river for walleye at dunnville dam like you would for rainbows at the Niagara river from shore

    • @hooked4lifeca
      @hooked4lifeca  2 роки тому

      Yes, should be no problem at all. The fly is sparse so it sinks well.

      If you can't find a Kelly green, just use a medium green instead. There isn't much difference.
