  • What a fantastic welcome to Oupoort by the donkeys! Also the history about the original farmer was very interesting, but also very sad. We ended up spending the night with a stunning braai of authentic Karoo lamb chops. Oupoort is just outside of Middelpos, so the next morning we headed into town, after preparing jaffels for breakfast. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #middelpos #karoo #oupoort

Ah man that kitty😢😢😢 so thin and starving. Thank you for giving him/her some food. Always feel so sorry for farm cats as they're almost never sterilised and almost always pregnant and hungry.
On a happier note, this video really shows the true great karoo. I reckon you have to be born there to cope with the barren solitude. Very beautiful in a haunting way.

What a unique place Middelpos is! It was a whole experience just refueling our vehicle! 😁🚗 The owner of the hotel wasn't around for us to chat to, but we believe it's a place with a lot of stories. It sounds like you may have some too! 🤣 Actually one gets the vibe when you stand in front of it. I'd like to go back one day.

Oh my heart bleeds for that poor skinny kitty! I love cats. All animals really. No carrots for the donkies? Tut tut! But they did have plenty to eat. Beautiful place you stayed in, so peaceful.I love to hear about the history of the people who lived there

The female one of us adores cats, so it wasn't very long until this little one was adopted for the evening. 😻 He had a whole Karoo lamb chop for dinner and then some little odds-and-ends the next morning. What a pretty little kitty he was too! 🐈‍⬛ We come across so many donkeys on our travels, we should actually keep some carrots, but never think of it! A really interesting farm, especially the grave of the previous owner. Quite a sad story though. 😢

Curtis you were lucky to get fuel at Middelpos. Interesting shop. My wife and I went thru a few months ago on motor bike and no fuel but we were warned by tour guides and the folks in Sutherland where we came from. The hotel owner is one of the biggest Boerboel dog breeders in the world. Stayed overnight in hotel about 5 years ago and went for long walks and met owner and his wife. Food was great. If it's to be sold, hopefully the next owners would revive the hospitality side of things. I'm keen to try Oupoort farm stay when in that area again. Thanks.

How quaint it seems so strange to see such places in this day and age. Very nice a lovely place. Thanks for the experience .

I think Middelpos is frozen in time somehow, but so interesting and charming for us city dwellers to see. 👌🏻

Greetings! This is a lovely trip, thanks for posting such interesting content. I guess we forget how basic life was for folks on these farms in days gone by - just a cold tap in the kitchen , but then an aga providing hot water all the time. I knew some old people who lived in(Mitchel Park) Durban who also only had a cold tap in the kitchen too - so it must have been more common, once upon a time.

More virgin territory for me. Thanks for the visit! Is there anything quite like a visit to the Karoo?

Glad we could show you Middelpos and the surrounding area. 👌 The Karoo is very special and we will always return, but the diverse landscapes we encounter on all our travels, each have their own beauty and it's impossible to put one above the other. We've tried, but we just can't bring ourselves to do it. 🤷🏼‍♂️🇿🇦

That is quite a coincidence that the surname and the birth years correlate to those of some of your own family members. That is some age cap and I would agree with you, but not altogether uncommon in today's times either. It's great to see that you're watching some of our older videos too! 😁🚗

We didn't have apples to give the donkeys, but I'm sure the folks there would make sure they have enough to eat. They were absolutely precious to have given us such a warm welcome! 😍🐴

@@DustBugsTravel You would be surprised how many places in SA are Manx named. Richmond Hill is another area in outer Douglas. You also mentioned a surname Tomlinson which is particularly popular on the island too. Diamonds and this little pirate gem Island which is neither Irish nor Brit but Viking of nature was known to help Boer war soldiers caught with valuable stones to a safer haven once docked.....
