    How come you don't get a little enclosed trailer and just park that little car in it? Then you would have a cool little garage with room for some tools and a bit of extra storage. Seems it would be easier than hooking up all that stuff every time too. Nice tutorial, love your videos.

      You can do that but that's more weight. Also ramping a car on to a trailer an strapping it down usually takes about as long if done right.

    I was thinking of using my 16' enclosed trailer to haul my Honda Fit. Pulled all the way up it would give me 42" left to store a scooter or motorcycles or bicycles. With a Smart Car you could go with a smaller trailer
    Love your videos

    When alone have a golf flag on flex pole place in ground where you want the car to stop. Car taps the pole it moves, you know your ready to attach.

    i just found your channel from The Autographer article. Nice RV! I'm going to check out more of your vids. Constructive criticism alert... when throwing white fonts up over grass or other high contrast backgrounds, throw some sort of background behind the font... like a black box with 20% opacity. it will make the font MUCH easier to read and people with lower bandwidth settings will be able to see as well.

    Nice. I see one thing you forgot. I always check the lights to make sure I have a good electrical connection and that they work. Safety first.

    So why did you use a towbar as opposed to a tow dolly? Just curious, I have used a dolly once and never a bar. Just looking for perspectives. Thanks.

    Couldn't afford the retractable tow bars, and brake buddy was the only option for my Suzuki Samurai as far as brake assistance. My (not too) costly recent towing mistake... Lost the key to the tow bar hitch lock. A neighbor distracted me with questions about the Suzuki (everyone wants one) and the Airtabs on the RV (no one knows what they are) Broke my procedure, and now, the non-retractable tow bar is stuck on the RV. Got the car off, but now, I need to get it all together, and drive to a locksmith.

      Yours just uses a padlock doesn't it? Those are easy to pick. Or cut it off an buy a new one, it would be cheaper than a locksmith

    • @2012escapee1
      @2012escapee1 10 років тому

      Not a padlock, but a hitchlock.

      Yea, I went back an re-watched your video on it. Probably some pretty hard steel but looks like you could cut it.

      Great news! The campground called to ask if I lost some keys! Yes! I was only a few miles away, so I am back in business with the key and lock! Now, to hide an extra one away, for emergencies.

    My wife and I just got our first RV (BayStar Sport Newmar) and are being told we cant tow a smart car and drive it more than 30 miles an hour. Can you please tell me, how can you do it? -- What am I missing?

    • @gonewiththewynns
      @gonewiththewynns  7 років тому

      +Leyendo las Escrituras Being told by who - Newmar? Check with a Smart dealer and ask them specific questions. Motorhome magazine has a list of towable cars and it's on there: www.motorhome.com/download-dinghy-guides/ Maybe it depends on what year model the Smart is?

      the 30 miles an hour is in the manual. It is towable, but not more than 30 miles an hour. -- According to Mercedez Benz, 2009-2015 and gosoline only can be towed. -- Thank you for your quick response.... keep the videos coming Mr. Wonderful!!! lol

    You said you put it in tow mode and then all you did was put it in NEUTRAL, are you pushing another button for TOWED MODE? I was told turn the key to ON, put it in Neurtral, now turn key back toward off but it will stop before it is in off and that leaves the steering wheel able to turn with the RV around corners etc(so tires are not scrubbed and straight all the time) Hook up and off you go. SO the question is, did I miss a step, TURN ON TOW MODE, or is that really not what you meant and just meant to put in Neurtral??

    • @gonewiththewynns
      @gonewiththewynns  6 років тому

      +Sandie Bock Some cars are a little different, so the best advice is to check your owner's manual and do exactly what it says.

    • @sandiebock8035
      @sandiebock8035 6 років тому

      You are right but they were talking about the car I have so was asking about the "Tow Mode" if there is one.

    What is the automatic battery disconnect for?

    • @sandiebock8035
      @sandiebock8035 6 років тому

      Because you have the key on so the steering wheel will turn, so Battery Shut off shuts down the battery from being drained. MAKE SURE your dealer has the power cord from RV to TOAD getting power from the RV otherwise your break controller will not work with the battery shut off ON. NOT sure but running lights on car and brake lights etc may not work either with battery cut off ON if the power cord has power coming from the car.

    Wouldn't a separate tow trailer to put your car on be better. It would save wear and tear on the car and not require the modifications to the car itself.

    • @gonewiththewynns
      @gonewiththewynns  6 років тому +1

      Well, some people do that but we will always go with a car that can be towed 4-down. Towing on a trailer or tow dolly means that when you reach your destination and unload the car, you have to park the trailer somewhere. Most campsites are too small for a coach, the vehicle, and a trailer. Some have storage areas where you can park them (sometimes for an additional fee) but many do not. No system is perfect.

  • @993ts

    Why don't you just park your Smart Car inside of your RV?

    Can you tow a truck?

    • @darrenedger4552
      @darrenedger4552 9 років тому

      Yes, just make sure your toe hitch can pull it, most rv tow hitches are either 3,500 pounds or 5,000, check your rv's owners manual.

      Marek Gordiski you can use a trailer but it's even more of a pain.
