    i agree with Claire and Faye the charts today are so confusing. I preferred the way the charts were done in the 90's. I'm 26 and don't understand streaming

      but hey don't worry about that friend, their concerts are all sold out and successful

    I can understand their frustration. Scared of the dark entered the sales chart at number 7, however streaming pushed it down to 37. The album then got to number one on sales, but only got to number 2 with streaming added

      I really laugh how you said: And only got to number 2-You are being sarcastic right?

    As they are mature in the music business, Faye and Claire know what they need to do to be successful. And these days, that means filling arenas with people in their 30s and 40s who loved them 20 years ago. The charts are simply to let new audiences know that they exist and are good fun. As long as they keep the balance right and stay grounded, they'll be successful for a long time to come.

    Claire was right - streaming favours newer artists. Legacy artists do better on the sakes chart because those fans are likely to buy the album rather than stream

    To me, as long as they're making money from it, then I call that a success.

    Their songs don't get any promotion here in Canada, and truth be told they are very good. Had it not been for some British awards show that somehow got an airing here in Canada, and STEPS was on performing CHAIN REACTION, AND IT WAS BRILLIANT. I would never have known who they are. After that show I went on Ebay and Amazon and went on a STEPS buying spree. I was hooked. I still like them

    I agree with Faye and Claire I'm turning 13 this year so you would expect me a child growing up around all this technology to understand it but nope it's confusing all my older siblings were born in the 1990s and my parents the 1970s and 1960s so I grew up listening to records and cassettes and CDs which I really do prefer

    We really feel that the music industry is stuffed we need 2 hav a more fair we need the physical singles 2 comeback in stores the way it works now is crap n ppl want ppls work 4 free n it cant happen like this anymore we feel 4 artists n us REAL fans want 2 build our collections not just have digital data on our phones we want something to show for the what we buy not just spend our money on stuff we dont physically own

    Completely agree that there needs to be separate charts. I could buy Steps' album and therefore because I have the album I don't need to stream it... so I could play it 100,000 times and it would only be counted as the 1 sale. It's stupid.

  • @y.dawood3153

    The Album is amazing but they are totally right, I didn't buy the album but I'm streaming it with an streaming app, so shame on the music industry if they didn't win any award for this album. What's wrong with are you ppl, why no one is giving them some credit

  • @wpaulvandyk

    The charts is not the same anymore and i don't get streaming. Why pay to stream songs to listen to when for me i want to own the physical product., Even if you download it you could put it on CD or your IPod.

    Most of pop music these days is crap whether on CD or online, since 2009 until today I have bought only 4 CD's, two compilations and two new releases, and I bought them because they are music I can enjoy over and over, unlike the disposable music of these days

    So 1000 streams of an album equals the sale (or download) of 1 album? Am I hearing this correctly? If so, it can only mean that streaming is killing music. If music isn't creating an income then artists cannot afford further studio time.

  • @imalwaysright
    @imalwaysright 6 років тому

    Definitely need to separate streaming and sales

    I think shell find 5678 was not the best selling single of 97 and wasn't even top 50. The best selling single of all time probably pipped it lol

      I was gonna say Elton Johns Candle in the Wind 1997 when Princess Diana died is the number 1 single of that year because of the hysteria etc

    • @chriskevinlee
      @chriskevinlee 7 років тому +7

      5,6,7,8 was the biggest selling single in 1997 not to enter the top 10.

    • @mikekaraoke
      @mikekaraoke 6 років тому

      Supr Doopr-Where in the hell did you get that 5,6,7,8-Wasn't even in the top 50-They never even said that
      It was a hit for them getting in the top 20, The biggest selling single wouldn't make the top 50 it would have to be higher in the charts for that to happen which it did was a top 20 hit

    Charts are pointless, they're always filled with generic, auto-tuned nonsense. Really music isnt really hear of in the mainstream, someone has to go looking for it
