  • After a brief look at the tedding with McCormick and New Holland, we see the raking with their brand new Claas 2-rotor and Case 90 2wd, and then to the lifting. Claas Jaguar 75 with McCormick 135 and initially, just one tractor/trailer. When the tedding is done there is more - another set is sufficient in this field next to the steading. Neighbours are helping, again. There are six tractors working today.

    I remember watching this when I was a toddler. While 2 tractors rake up the grass, another tractor with a small forager attaches to the left rear arrives and harvests the silage that can be used to feed the animals in the winter.

    My 2-year-old can't write "Thank you a million times for this video" yet, so I'm writing it on his behalf. He just can't get enough of it. Plus, lovely landscape, perfect set-up, this is really good stuff.

    alright pal , been looking back at these videos as it brings my child hood memories back , as im older now but i don't know if you remember the other farm just under the black mountain as we ran the operation as a family / friends as im the son in line for that family farm (Morgan farm ) bit of an update for you , sadly my uncle being a bit of a tool wasn't well liked through the family but recently sold the farm before my 18th birthday witch meant i wasn't able to inherit the land and as a result its just this farm in the video running nowadays witch is a shame and it breaks my heart but the TS115 was sadly sold off , and is now in Bristol of all places but there we are , anyways , the videos bring back the fantastic memories of what i would have loved to continue working on if inherited , extremely passionate about farming and especially in the older ways with lose silage with the class 75 jag witch still works to this day and operates just more to it these ways , looking at the classic methods of it , as far as im aware the old ford and both McCormick's are still in use working very well as well as the ld case we had on the rake , dont know if you seen it but MASSEY FERGUSON 135 we had for scraping out has ended up in a private collection now witch is unexpected but very nice that it still looked after , anyways in the end its starter motor was packed in cause of the cold weather and we couldn't get the parts for it but it is what it is , anyways mate have a good one , be nice to see some more of the footage if you still have any , i know its been a while but one can hope :)

    These climates are so humid and the chance of rain is so great so many times that tedding needs to be done for the grass the dry enough so that silage can be made properly.

  • @HenkAnnieNaald

    Because turns with the tedder are bad for the PTO, but that isnt the biggest problem (if you lubricate well and have a quality PTO shaft for wide angle). You get piles of grass on your inside corner because it throws the grass too far away and on the outside corners the grass isnt getting thrown away enough so your putting it back in rows.

  • @balmesh

    Yes, aerating is part of it. Spreading it out so the sun and the wind can get at it all, is another part of it.

  • @jbclaydon5009

    Why is the silage tedded out? Could it not be raked straight away? Or is it too thick or something?

    • @balmesh
      @balmesh  9 років тому

      It's not silage - it's grass. It's tedded to help it to condition.

  • @balmesh
    @balmesh  13 років тому

    I didn't ask. Maybe he wanted to avoid messing up the outside runs? And avoid straining the mechanism which is not perhaps made for right-angled corners? I know PTOs don't like it.

  • @balmesh
    @balmesh  13 років тому

    Toe ndamc79
    Yes, there's more. I think it was only tractors and drivers that were borrowed. I know the rake, Claas, Fellas and the two 115s were owned by the "Home" farm.

  • @awd3264
    @awd3264 10 років тому

    Always been curious as to why it's called lifting. First it runs grass, corn or whatever though a chopper than as a by product it is thrown or blown as I would say.
    Nothing gets lifted.

    • @balmesh
      @balmesh  10 років тому +3

      Don't be silly. All the grass is lifted - about 15' into the air in order to get into the trailers! Further more the trailers are lifting the grass back to the farm - have you never asked for a "lift" when you want a ride somewhere?
