Jake, you need to contact a registration service to see if they can get those back fees waived. It may cost you $100 for their services, but if it saves you $800 it's worth it. I have gone this route with old cars in CA several times. Greetings from Sac!
Hello Jennies Garage! I rarely comment on anything, but decided I wanted to tell you all I support these videos and enjoy them just as much if not more than your previous. It is a great mix of information, personality, and just hanging out. As I grow older, I love hearing others opinions that I respect, and you are no different. So filling blank space, even though it was only 14 seconds of silence, with whatever comes across your mind is welcomed. Not filling that space is also welcomed. You have amassed an audience that doesn’t feed off of short form content and constant stimulation. So, leaving blank space is perfectly A-okay!
Yep, lol. I always laugh at all the online sellers who waste their time redacting or obscuring their license plate number. Hey brainiacs, it's on your vehicle for everyone in public to see... why do you think you need to cover it in a photo?? 😂
@@454Burban Well, that kind of stuff can be run back to find out where it is registered. Ya, someone who wants to steal it might see it at random, but something listed online is literally part of a buffet for someone who may be looking to steal something particular.
@dglongx I think we all need to remember what State we're talking about here. CA doesn't merely do things "wrong", we seem to do a lot of diligence in determining the best way to do things, and then we do it the exact OPPOSITE. I've literally had the DMV, the CHP, and Sacramento going around in circles with each other for three days, just trying to get an OHV sticker for a couple of Razor dirt bikes, to ride on BLM land. Sac says all off-highway vehicles require a sticker. DMV says no OHV sticker without a VIN verification. CHP says they can't verify the VIN of a vehicle that doesn't have one. CHP also explained to Sac that they consider it a "toy", not a motor vehicle. Sac responds that they don't have an Exemption for "toys". This idiot State is like a Laurel & Hardy routine. 🤦🏼♂️
No sir, despite what some online sellers claim about "Out of the DMV system", Commiefornia "remembers" far longer than just 10 years. The greedy bastards won't let go of a PENNY. Also, I myself was given a motorcycle that had zero paperwork. It took me about three years, multiple visits to three different DMV offices (who all provided me different information), two different CHP stations, and over 300 dollars... but I did eventually get a clear Title to the bike. I did not have any info on the original owner, so I had to fill out a Form REG 227, and a Statement of Facts, explaining in a much detail as possible, how I came to be in possession of the bike. In your case, the whole acquisition has been well documented on video, so that works in your favor. But there's no way around the stupid fees, except selling to someone who lives in a Free state.
Stop bullshitting, I’ve registered vehicles/jetskies that were out of the system. It all depends on the clerk. Most are asshoels for no reason, you just need to find that one person.
I Enjoy The Videos, But I Am Feeling A Sense Of Stress. I Have been A Very Long Time Watcher And Your Energy In The Past Has Always Been Positive. Honestly, You Seem To Be Coming Across Frustrated. Just What I Am Noticing. As For The Bike, I Would never Worry About Paper Work, I Am 60 Years Old, I Rode My Whole Life Without A Motorcycle License, When I Finally Went And Got 1, I Seem To Not Want To Ride Anymore, So I Sold My Bikes And Have Not Gotten Another 1 Since. Motorcycles Are About Being Free And I Felt Trapped By The System. Rice Krispies Looked Good, I Love Homemade Soap.
You know I feel the same.. The energy in these one take videos are not the same as other edited videos. I have been watching your videos for years and if they started out like this then, I would of likely not subscribed.. TBH.
I try to stay out of government way as much as possible since most of the time the government things seem to be designed and operated by re-tar-ded people - no offense to the actual simple-minded people. I use online services wherever possible, and avoid any in-person things since the public facing gov people are just corrupt - both morally and financially. Wherever I can, I hire an agent to take care of these things - costs a bit but saves on so much hassle, and I can spend my time on better and peaceful things.
Bummer of a situation and story. Love to have you on the firewood addicts podcast series on my channel, chatting about small gas engines/chainsaws. Just an idea. Keep cuttin' brother!
I was a police officer for 26 years and running a VIN or registration check was a courtesy that we'd do for local residents. After retiring ten years ago, I got back into off-road dirt bike riding again like when I was a teenager. Two years after retiring, l called two different friends from my department and wanted them to do a VIN check on a Honda XR650R that didn’t have any paperwork. Surprisingly, each guy was "afraid" to run a check on it since it wasn't part of an official investigation. (That’s a problem when guys can't make a simple decision that would be common sense that nothing was being done improperly). Anyway, l had my brother (who's a police officer in another state) run the VIN and it came back clean. Long story short, South Dakota DMV issued me a street legal title which is what my goal was.
NCIB has a trap door, BEWARE! If a VIN comes back as stolen, the Feds trace the IP address, call the local police, who show up at your door. I bought a junk wrecked parts bike, and ran it thru NCIB as I did with every bike I ever bought, the bike got confiscated and I damned near went to jail. It doesn't matter who stole it, I sure didn't but you lose the bike immediately and if it's a total wreck (like the one I bought) it goes to police auction and you have to try and buy it again (which I didn't even try). Believe me, NCIB is NOT "there to help you". And even if you run it thru NCIB and don't buy the bike, you are gonna have the police at your door asking a WHOLE lot of questions!
That DR has a lot of aftermarket goodies on it. Fork brace, White E series exhaust, looks like an upgraded upper triple clamp, Corbin seat, skid plate, bigger tank (even though it's ugly), ASV levers, foot pegs. Might be more that I am not seeing, but someone with a stock bike could use all those parts. Also DR350 parts are easy to sell on eBay. The TM33 pumper carb is worth $200 or so. Cylinder head is worth $300. Easy to make $1000 quickly, but you' will be stuck with a bunch of stuff that won't sell for a long time.
In the State of Michigan you just bring a VIN# to the Secretary Of State office (DMV) and do whats called a "VIN Search"...If it comes back clean you can register it immediately
Jake, just sell it for parts if its too much hassle. I know the system sucks and sometimes you can just write it off, and save on so much mental hassle. Trust me when you put a price on peace of mind, it won't seem like a bad tradeoff.
I had a feeling that the carb got junk in it from the gas sloshing around during the trip. But it makes cleaning out the tank a breeze. With the rebuilt carb I say four kicks and it's a runner.
That's crazy, how can you be liable for reg fees that occured before you owned the bike? Hastily applied paint is usually a sign of a hot bike. Hit it with some acetone & bring the yellow back!
That's crazy that they charge you for any fees that any previous owner may have had. I needed my opinion that's like letting your greed condemned lots of perfectly good vehicles just because people don't really want to pay $700 worth of other people's fees in order to register a vehicle. That just seems utterly ridiculous that they would settle new owners with fees that any previous owner may have accrued. Go get them from the previous owner. As far as I'm concerned, any new owner, starts a new cycle.
I’d love to have that DR, but you’re a little to far from Indiana.. I know how you feel on this. Many, many years ago I bought a 66 Chevelle SS that had a mechanics lien and was sold for charges. After I gathered all the required paperwork and went to the BMV, I found out there was a loan owed on the car. I went to the loan company and explained the circumstances to the manager. They refused to release the lien on the title unless I would pay the loan off. And unfortunately the loan amount was for more than the car was worth at that time, so I pulled the motor and trans and anything else I could and junked the rest. Sucked, but I wasn’t paying off someone else’s loan for more than the car was worth, plus what I was already into it for.
every time i buy or inquire a motorcycle i just call the local licensing company and tell them I'm getting ready to buy a bike and want to know if you can run the vin and they due every time without hesitation
So Jake to fill in the awkward silence like during the spark plug thingee could you maybe you know int he future you and her Jake and Jen talk about Jen's Tattoo behind here neck? I am not into them but am currious to know why people get them! Love to hear the story behind that!
California's back registration fees are a load of manure. Why on Earth should anyone pay an annual registration for any year they didn't use a vehicle. There was no wear and tear caused to the roads, what are their grounds for this other than they just want to take more of your money. So unjust!
So... I'm a 55yo guy, and my dad stopped riding when I was 12 (after an unfortunate incident at Pismo on his Honda 250) and ready to learn. I've been wanting to get a bike and ride for a bit, and the DR350 is on my short list. Would you recommend it for a first time rider? And an old fucker like myself? I'm a short fucker, too, at 5'7" if that makes a difference
Spark, no pop? Starter fluid!!!! One little pshhhttt, and you eliminate ten variables. Pop pp pop, spark, timing, valves, compression, kill switch, low oil, all of that... eliminated. Now you KNOW it is a fuel issue. Air filter and clean the carburetor, and you are riding the thing down the street. You did not mention it, but I saw you smell the spark plug. I know why you did that. I do it too. Care to explain what you were checking for?

Unfortunately, you still showed the VIN. I dont think its a huge issue, just comical. Love the back to back videos!

In Montana, part of the process for registering a vehicle without a title is having a police officer check and verify the VIN
Used to be the process here too.

A lot of the things highlighted in this video is why i liquidated my assets and fled California, everything about that state is a racket.

That is why the People of California are known to the state of California to cause cancer.

Hooray for green checkmarks! I love the combined censorship of thumb and blurring to keep that vin hidden.
If you get it plated, you don’t have to worry about red/green stickers, to the best of my understanding.

Some states don't require vin#/title/registration if it is for off road only.. Just street bikes.. California is a different world..
Come to Texas and you won't have to do any paperwork unless that thing is ready for the road
You just don't seem as happy go lucky as you use to be. Why so drum chum.
You're right. The enthusiasm and quick wit is lacking.
