Thanks for spotlighting Rare Earth! Eddie Guzman was my uncle. He was an incredible percussionist and a wonderful human being as well. I was born too late since I was too young to truly appreciate their talent and my Uncles abilities until the 90's. Got to go backstage at many events and meet many incredible people from different bands that toured with them. It was an honor!! So glad to see others appreciated them all as much as I do. Music never dies!
Great job on this. Ray Monette also played on several Parliament Funkadelic records, he was one of the only Caucasian guitarists to play with them. You should do one of these on Black Oak Arkansas, who were mentioned in this one.
Those were great days. There were no musical genres limiting what audiences listened to. There was just music. As an aside; in the 80's a former Rascals producer, signed a publishing deal with me for one of my songs because he wanted to pitch it to Rare Earth's singer. Unfortunately that project was shelved.
One of my childhood babysitters was married to Randy “Bird” Burghdoff, who was a road agent and became a bassist and vocalist with them from 1985-2021. Unfortunately his ex-wife divorced him, I suspect due to not being there more for their son, whom I’m friends with, but don’t know for certain. My mother passed away the last day of 2003, and sometime in the 2010s, my father became engaged to Bird’s ex-wife.

RIP Eddie
I was at cal jam back in 1974, I remember them and they were ok but most of the crowd was there for bands like Sabbath and Deep Purple.
Rare Earth performed 3 times in Kankakee , IL ...Another time I saw them with Steppinwolf , Iron Butterfly , and Tommy James & the Shondells
