  • Okay, so it has been a busy summer of learning how to cook and clean the beast of a grill that I received as a gift from my family. It's been fun - and even learning how to clean and maintain the grill has been a fun experience (clearly, I don't do this for a living - much respect to short-order cooks!!)
Anyway, I make up for lost time in this episode by being lazy and using a 3M commercial chemical and process to clean the grill deep. The results are impressive, but it's only the beginning. Stay tuned for another episode where we go to the grill again with the same process.

I used to cook steaks on Saturday evenings at my local VFW. We have a commercial, and we used the 3M grill cleaning system. The smell would almost knock you off your feet. We used ice cubes right on the hot girl while using a squigy. To season the grill, prep the surface before applying an oil coating.

Thanks for watching! Yes, big advantage to being outside - I don't find either the 3M or the steam problematic. I did the ice thing once; sure does create impressive steam, but I dunno, I was worried that shocking the metal like that might twist/distort it, even though it is a hundred pounds of steel... thanks for the tips!

When I worked at a restaurant:
    1. hit it with water and let that do an initial deglaze, use the scraper to get the big items off.
    2. hit it with lemon juice and scrub with the pumice (just like green bottle of real lemon).
    3. wipe it down with damp terry cloth and it always looked brand new.

I used to use this same stuff in my restaurant job, that was 10 years ago. Works great but we only did it once a week. There was a steel screen that we used to scrub the surface.

Thanks for watching. I guess I should have said "new to me" as it's all new to me. I have seen others use a steel screen...in your experience that does not scratch or harm the surface? The supplied scotch guard pads are good but not too aggressive...

@LastRequestBarbeque no worries, glad it's available for consumers now. The screen didn't scratch the surface, but the flattop seemed much thicker and harder than the typical backyard griddle. It sure was much heavier. I preferred to use the big razor scraper, however. It has a longer handle away from the steam 😁
