Up to about 13 i had several raleigh Choppers then around 1983/4 i switched to a BMX, great bikes but never ever as much fun as the Chopper. Cool video seeing these old bikes from my early teen years.
This was my first bike, I remember my dad putting it together and he put the forks on back to front. I moved on to the Ultra Burner a couple of years later. Great memories.
Great video I’m 45 and had the blue and yellow burner. It’s one of my earliest memories walking to the bmx store with my dad and he often reminded me of my little face looking up at him as he said “you want that one don’t you” I lost him to sepsis in March 2019 and life hasn’t been the same since 💔
In all my years of loving bmx I didn’t know the ultra burner came in two different colour variations? One of my cousins had the ultra burner in black and gold, another had the later super tuff burner. I had an iron horse dirt burner, cheap rubbish really but I loved it as my first bmx. My favourite bmx is the Torker280x, loved it and was lucky to have one in later years. Only had 3 different bmx’s growing up in the 80’s, the dirt burner, Scorpion breakdancer that I got from Halfords on a day trip to Bristol and then in 1987 I bought a Vincent Airzone frame and forks in Orange, like Stuart “PEPI” Winder (RIP), but just after I bought mine I saw in bmx action bike or RAD if it had changed by then? That pepi had left Vincent and was riding a Skyway street beat. Since those days I have had a few different bikes/frame and forks, Torker, Haro FST, Skyway Streetbeat including a NOS grey and white with factory label on it from the states, 86 GT Performer and hundreds of different wheels, tyres etc. Great video, a few things in there I didn’t know, and I thought I was quite knowledgeable about bmx? Everyday is a school day as they say. 🤙🏻
I found one those red and yellow ones about three years ago. someone threw it out for big trash day. So not wanting it to go a land fill I bring it home. Haven’t gotten to it yet but at least it’s not trash.
I had a black and gold Ultra Burner for Christmas in 1982. It was such a lovely bike. I really really wanted a Pro Burner but it was just too expensive. I don’t remember the price of the Pro but I’m guessing around £200. Does anyone out there know?
