plasmoid is a playable ooze coming in spelljammer (but you see the beta version) so you definetly can have a one shot where the groups goal is to reach the abyss and make it to juiblex
Juiblex is the creepiest of the Demon Lords, and his "spawn" are the easiest to employ at lower levels. This makes him perfect for the anchor of a campaign. The fact that his presence makes slimes/oozes/jellies more intelligent is the icing required for mini-bosses. Given the experimentation on oozes by the Illithids, and thus the Oblex, I wonder where their (Oblex) loyalties lie.
if I recall correctly Ooblexes are mostly loyal to themselves illithids just implant a subconsous routine into the slime so they can read it's mind for the info it collected then send it away
In OotA there is an intelligent Gelatinous Cube NPC that can join the party if they play it right. By far it was a campaign favorite for my group, even the normally dour Dwarven fighter loved and would look out for the childlike Glabbagool!
The faceless lord: "Numerous eyes on his face" Demon lords truly break all logic and reason. Certainly Jubilex is strange and does not seem to follow the same rules of the other demon lords, but the abyss is a place of chaos, so it makes sense that there are creatures that completely contradict all the rules or everything supposedly preset in that aspect of the Abyss.
I play Juiblex as a foil, as the secret "cast off" avatar aspect of Corellon, as Corellon was once shapeless and formless as well, I like the discoverability that the worlds god's themselves are imperfect and often have aspects that are technically "them" as well. In this way Tiamat/Bahamet makes a convienent truth that few things are 1 sided.
In my own setting, I've thought it more interesting for Zggtmoy and Juiblex to be allies, if not borderline lovers. I think a weird demonic campaign with a rot and hunger theme around a "Putrid Marriage" is something neat to run with. Or having one of those Awoken oozes be the origin for a homebrew slime PC.
YES! Have been waiting for this one! Really wish Juiblex can find a magical item that allows it to control all oozes and slimes all at once, since oozes are everywhere regardless of the environment!
Always good to learn more about the demon lords. In this case we have somthing that is almost a primordial evil more than a demon. I mean, a warlock that makes this guy his patron may as well have pick out a Lovecraftian old one. It's cultists may be deceived in the same way as mindflayers. Just as the Elder Brain isn't every mindflayer combined, cultist may believe that letting oozes eat them would make them part of an unholy whole or something.
I almost feel like Juiblex makes more sense if you consider him an elder evil from the far realm who got displaced into the abyss. Like, maybe he slid through with the obyrith (or maybe he's an obyrith who degraded once he made his way to this plane), and just sort of set up his house in one of the layers of the abyss, and refused to leave when Zuggtmoy showed up. Or maybe he is the outcome when someone with far realm knowledge is forced to exist in the confines of this simplistic plane: his mind and form degrades into ooze, but he retains enough power to control other oozes. What if all ooze is a result of the incompatibility of the far realm and the prime material?! Sorry for the rant, I got excited about ooze 😅
In my TOEE Jubliex and Zuggutomy were both captured by Iuz and he was only going to keep one alive and consume the other. The pocket elemental planes of evil were intended to be fronts for maintaining the evil Chaos cult's loyalty, but Jubliex and Zuggetomy heard whispers of an ancient thing from them. It told them independently to keep the charade and to kill the other and Iuz and the ancient elemental chaos would come and give the material plane to their progeny.
I'm pretty sure what actually happened is that after being rendered a prisoner on the mortal plane for some time, Juiblex took the chance to expand... and she's never been able to weed him out since her return.
Using Juiblex as a Warlock PAtron you can make Venom/Carnage/Symbiote by Level3! Half orc haunted one background. You were abused as a youngling treated as nothing more than a slave to the orc tribe you had the unfortune to be born in. The physical abuse made you tough and angry. But the desperation was even worse, always looking to escape having made many attempts only to be brought back and beaten to submission time and again. They eventually chained you in the mining caves and used as a "canary" of sorts when new areas of the underdark are found....it was in that role you found your "symbiote" patron. A Fiendish Monstrosity/Shapechanger (mimic), created by being in proximity to a Demon lord. An amorphous creature, it merged with you and took over for a time, killing your tormentor(s), a small band of Orcs in the underdark. It gave you your freedom, but is constantly there urging you forward, an insatiable appetite to consume, and in desperate times takes over, when you come around there is death and gore all around you.... I suggest roleplay the symbiote taking over when things are dire, as you level up assert yourself more and become synergistic. reskin Shadow Blade as a Tentacle Flail. Or as a blade extending from arm The Hadar Spells are just bonus cherries on top. Eldritch Blast could be a large conjured eyeball with teeth that just blast rays of Eldritch energy. My spin is that Juiblex is essentially the primordial soup from which all life sprang and that to it we are all still oozes, just simply trapped in one foolish for or another and that one day we will return our natural state. The goal being a sea of individuals that can intermingle, form and reform, rejecting the static immutability of the material realms for something more primal and "true". So the conflict between Zuggtmoy and Juiblex is for the ultimate fate of life; either to be a sea of individuals or one mind, the superorganism known as Zuggtmoy. They're not simply Evil but their goals are antithetical to life as we know it.

I have played up the other slimes getting a boost near Jublex, like the intelligence and a pilgrimage aspect. maybe something they run into repeatedly in an adventure. Would also be a great hood into one of my tricks - mixing up the colors and aspects of the slimes - messes up the meta gaming players, and forces everyone to actually learn which is what and what each one is vulnerable to.
Is it just me who thinks he should be waaaaaay bigger? If all he does is consume he should be at least as big as a city, possibly near infinite in size. If i was designing him i would have had the Juiblex we know just be one of many Aspects that once killed return to the mass of slime in the Abyss that is the true extent of Juiblex (he can't leave the abyss as one whole entity and could only be destroyed by destroying the whole layer he lives on), the shared layer with the Fungus Queen would actually be a gateway layer and the only way outsiders could get to his actual layer would be through it.
