- 08th MS Team is one of my all time favorites and I recently purchased the Blu Ray. I took some liberties with the title slate but it is 1080p version upscaled to 4K to reduce UA-cam's compression.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Probably the beat Gundam Series ever. None of the newtype BS, unlimited ammo, ridiculous combat. Honest, realistic, horrific, Gundam.
I remember this back my childhood in early 2000's................
I remember the day this aired. Had to mow the grass that day (had a big and hilly uneven yard) hot hot Ohio summer. All was well though cause I knew that if I didn’t die of heat stroke I’d at long last see 08th ms team for the first time. I remember drinking a barques root beer (spelling?) on my bed and it was over so fast and I didn’t see a single gundam but alas. I hate being old.
You made my day. I remember the original airing of this on Toonami.

Think about it in a parallel universe toonami stayed in adult swim disappeared. I want to live in that universe. This one sucks.
Nahh, you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain. Im glad it went out before it could have been ruined or changed too much. People were already angry about TOM 4 and the endless Naruto reruns so think it was better that it bowed out. It would have died regardless since the internet was becoming a better source for entertainment and we now have loads of streaming services, kinda making it redundant.
Plus isnt it still playing on Adult Swim now on Saturdays? I dont live in the US so i wouldnt know

It should be on Blu-ray by now. While the Trojan Horse had the first Gundam looks like the others were mass-produced in the country somewhere in Southeast Asia right outside of China.

Would have been awesome if he were able to do this but with the Japanese audio from the show. I hate to be "that" guy, but the English actors butchered this material. If something makes you feel embarrassed by proxy that's not a good thing. In most anime's, the Japanese actors take their roles and the material seriously, and deliver a performance that simply can't compare. Even if you don't speak the language, it makes a difference. When you have shows like this that get it's impact and importance through the conveyance of emotion, a lackluster performance will ruin it. Emotion is kind of a universal language in that sense, and the Japanese version of this show is masterful.
I'd say DragonBall Z "Ocean Dub" (besides the awful translation itself) is on the high end of that spectrum, but to be honest sometimes English surpasses the original. Presentations like Golden Boy, Outlaw Star, Macross Plus breathe new life in their ENGLISH formats. It's par for the course to appreciate the original Japanese dub, but English often deserves quite a bit of credit. I digress with DBZ, in which the original dub was above and beyond the quality most cartoons got in the west as a whole.

@@Krystalmyth I definitely prefer the funimation dub for original dragonball, and for about the first 60 episodes of Z. Something happened at around the 60 mark. It was right up until the ginyu force arrives. There's this obvious and strange drop off, not only in the quality and fidelity of the audio, but in the writing and acting as well. Something changed in the studio right there, and it was never fixed. I never looked in to how the translation compares to the episodes prior to 60, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more accurate. If you know this is going to happen, and you rewatch the show, it will be very obvious. All of a sudden, Goku starts using the word "shoot" numerous times per episode. As in "aww shoot". It sounds weird and the acting by sean is abysmal. There's also one of the strangest things done by bulma. So the whole way up until that point in the show, they never, not once (to my knowledge) made reference to them being in Japan. I don't think they ever mentioned the name of a country. Between the scifi technology, and the anthropomorphic animals, it's always been clear that the "Earth" portrayed in Dragon Ball isn't "our" Earth. Yet in one of these episodes past 60, bulma makes a few references to things being popular in "Japan", and then when she's communicating with the capt. ginyu frog, she says something about "Jane Goodall". She made a (now very dated,) modern pop culture reference. Something they've never ever done prior, and of course, all the acting at that point is just embarrassingly bad. It's such a contrast with how things had been just a few episodes ago. The parts when Vegeta was getting stronger and taking out the various henchmen was genuinely compelling. The parts when Krillin and Gohan were having to sneak around because they knew how outmatched they were felt more like Die Hard, but on a green planet instead of the Nakatomi plaza, and the build up to the ginyu force arriving was actually tense and suspenseful. The urgency and anxiety portrayed when they were debating on how to use the dragon balls was palpable. It was built up so amazingly well, and then by the next episode... The sound of pacman dying is the only thing that can some it up...
@@Krystalmyth But as far as other English dubs that are good. Trigun was excellent. Yu Yu Hakusho was better than the organinal in my own opinion. And Darker than Black is another great one in english. I also like Jon Roh, I haven't seen the entire movie in Japanese, but just comparing the sewer scene, I think its far better in english.
@@mtgAzim That's called the Ocean Dub. Saban had hired a Canadian voice acting team with some top talent to do the beginning of the show. When Funimation picked up the contract they had Ocean continue to dub but eventually decided to move all operations to Texas when they hired Chris Sabat. Sabat decided to do a few of the voices himself (Vegeta) imitating roughly the sinister tone of Brian Drummond. Multiple individuals at Ocean such as Peter Kelamis played Goku, and were incredible. Outside of the poor translation and localization by Saban (...send them to the next dimension lol) the og Ocean Dub is on another level. Some of the best voice actors around and some of the best audio cuts and quality in the industry. Long story short, Funimation cut them off to save costs and hired Sean Schemell to ruin the character and Sabat stopped trying to show he had any real range and went with his deeper Vegeta voice instead.
plot of this is pretty wack but definitely some of the highest quality animation for gundam
